The Clinical Efficacy and Safety of Four-Weekly Docetaxel as First-Line Therapy in Elderly Lung Cancer Patients with Squamous Cell Carcinoma

  • Background: Docetaxel is one of the standard treatments for advanced non-small cell lung cancer. Docetaxel is usually administered in a 3-week schedule, but there is significant toxicity. In this phase II clinical study, we investigated the efficacy and safety of a 4-weekly schedule of docetaxel monotherapy, as first-line chemotherapy for advanced squamous cell carcinoma in elderly lung cancer patients. Methods: Patients with stage IIIB/ IV lung squamous-cell carcinoma age 70 or older, that had not undergone cytotoxic chemotherapy were enrolled. Patients received docetaxel $25mg/m^2$ on days 1, 8, and 15, every 4 weeks. Primary endpoint was the objective response rate (ORR). Secondary endpoints were progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and toxicity profiles. Results: A total of 19 patients were enrolled. Among 19 patients, 17 were for evaluated efficacy and safety. In the intent-to-treat population, ORR and disease control rate (DCR) were 11.8% and 47.1%, respectively. In the response evaluable population, ORR was 16.7% and DCR was 66.7%. Median PFS and OS were 3.1 months and 3.3 months, respectively. There were three adverse grade 3/4 events. Grade 1 neutropenia was reported in one patient. Conclusion: Our data failed to demonstrate efficacy of a 4-weekly docetaxel regimen, in elderly patients with a poor performance status. However, incidence of side effects, including neutropenia, was lower than with a 3-week docetaxel regimen, as previously reported.

  • Recently, research is being conducted to use a fuel cell as a power source of unmanned aircraft. However, safety standards about applying fuel cells to unmanned aircraft are insufficient. In this paper, to improve the safety of the fuel cells for unmanned aircraft is experimentally studied. For this reason, standards for safety of fuel cells were analyzed. And influence of vibration among the evaluation items related to the safety of the fuel cell for unmanned aircraft was discussed. In order to, at constant intervals, vibration was applied to the fuel cell, then the performance was measured, the measurement items were gas tightness, polarization curve, frequency response analysis (FRA). A total of 220 hours was experimented at 20 hour intervals. the result of vibration test, gas leakage rate was a maximum of -0.04826 kPa/min and Polarization curve reached a maximum of 1.0103 times of the initial value, the charge transfer resistance reached a maximum of 1.0104 times of the initial value. This research indicate that performance of fuel cell is affected by vibration and this study is expected to contribute to the safety of fuel cell for unmanned aircraft.

비배양식 총세포수 평가를 통한 병물 위생관리 연구 (Study on Hygiene Management of Bottled Water through Non-culture-based Total Cell Count)

  • The demand for bottled water in South Korea is steadily increasing, but there are challenges regarding water sources and violations of water quality standards. Consumers struggle to identify products that do not meet these standards, highlighting the need for improved water management. This study aims to investigate the use of flow cytometry to identify microbial behavior in bottled water. Twelve different bottled water brands were selected for this study. A novel non-culture-based analysis method called total cell count via flow cytometry was utilized, which is not commonly used to assess drinking water quality. This method was compared to conventional culture-based methods for heterotrophic plate count and E. coli experiments, in order to introduce new indicators for hygiene management. Adenosine triphosphate analysis was also conducted to assess cell activity, and total organic carbon was measured to determine the presence of organic matter. The total cell counts varied among the different bottled water brands. The adenosine triphosphate levels ranged from 37.1ng/L to 221.7ng/L, while the total organic carbon ranged from 0.4 to 0.6 mg/L. Furthermore, E. coli was not detected in any of the bottled waters, and with the exception of two cases, the levels of heterotrophic bacteria did not exceed the drinking water standard of 100 CFU/mL. This study demonstrated a correlation between total cell count and heterotrophic plate count, suggesting that non-culture-based analysis could be valuable in promptly assessing microbial contamination, in contrast to the conventional methods that require approximately 48 hours for incubation.

  • 1. Uniformly $^{32}P$-labeled Chlorella cells were further grown in a standard "cold" medium and aliquots of the algal cells were taken out at the beginning of, and at intervals during the culture, and subjected to analyze the contents of $^{32}$ P and total P in various fractions of the cell constituents. 2. When the $^{32}P$--labeled algae were grown in a normal "cold" medium, the P-contents in the fractions of DNA and protein increased. In the meantime the $^{32}P$- in acid-insoluble polyphosphate fraction decreased considerably, while that in RNA-polyphosphate complex significantly increased. 3. It was inferred that, under the experimental conditions of the present study, the phosphorus in polyphosphate seems to be transferred to RNA polyposphate complex and the phosphorus used in the synthesis of DNA and protein was, directly or indirectly, taken from those fractions above.ose fractions above.

  • 여러 종류의 미백제들이 한국에서 보고되고 있으나 표준화된 유효성 protocol은 아직 확립되지 않은 실정이다. 그러므로 경제적이고 재현성있는 표준화된 유효성방법이 필요하다. 비방사선표지된 멜라닌정량법은 멜라닌형성에 대한 정량법으로 좋은 방법이 될 수 있으며 정상적인 사람의 melanocyte를 이용한 MTT assay는 세포의 proliferation을 정량하기 위한 좋은 방법에 될 수 있다.

  • In this paper, we introduce the status of certificate test on crystalline silicon photovoltaic module in Korea. Up to 3. 2009, about 149 models have passed certificate test under KS C IEC61215 standard. Most products are from Korea, Japan, China. And some are from USA, German and Taiwan. A few environmental test items' results and standard test methods will be discussed. The detail discussion will be shown in the following paper.

  • This paper descrisbes the implementation of a 20D DCT that can be used for video conference, JPEG, and MPEG-related applications. The implemented DCT consists of two 1-D DCTs and a transposed memory between them, and uses ROM-based multipliers instead of conventional ones. As the system bit length, the minimum bit length that satisfies the accuracy specified by the ITU standard H.261 was chosen through the simulations using the C language. The proposed design uses a dual port RAM for the transposed memory, and processes two bits of input-pixel data simultaneously t ospeed up addition process using two sets of ROMs. The basic system architecture was designed using th Synopsys schematic editor, and internal modules were described in VHDL and synthesized to logic level after simulation. Then, the compass silicon compiler was used to create the final lyout with 0.8um CMOS libraries, using the standard cell approach. The final layout contains about 110, 000 transistors and has a die area of 4.68mm * 4.96mm, and the system has the processing speed of about 50M pixels/sec.

  • I studied about temperature and pH concentration having influence upon chlorophyll decrease on the Glucose culture of Chlorella variegata Beijerinck(211/10a). I cultured under $25^{\circ}C$(standard), $15^{\circ}C$ and $35^{\circ}C$ and compared with each other. The culture of $15^{\circ}C$ didn't have any large difference with the standard culture($25^{\circ}C$) but the culture of $35^{\circ}C$ had a large amount of chlorophyll decrease without carbohydrate accumulation, stimulation of cell division and nitrogen-deficiency. Chlorella variegata had optimum pH 6.5-7 and was a little weak in all phenomenon under pH 8 rather than under pH 6.5-7. Under pH 5 they had deep chlorophyll decrease without phephytin.

Video 트래픽 제어를 위한 장면 전환의 검출 연구

  • ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode)은 광대역망에서 여러 형태의 멀티미디어 서비스를 지원하는 수단을 제공한다. 요즘 통신망으로 ATM의 채택이 증가하고, 이 망들이 멀티미디어 통신을 하기 위해 많은 데이터들이 오고 갈 때, 영상을 효율적으로 트래픽 제어함으로써 통신망에 끼치는 영향을 최소화 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 장면 전환 검출에 관해 State(상태) 알고리즘, Standard deviation(표준편차) 알고리즘, Percentage(가중치) 알고리즘 등을 이용한 장면 전환 검출의 성능 시험을 했다. Stage 알고리즘은 n상태로 나누어서 이루어지고, Standard deviation 알고리즘은 통계적 측면을 다룬 것이고, Percentage 알고리즘은 비례에 의해 이루어진다. 그 중에 Percentage를 이용한 장면 전환 검출 알고리즘은 다른 알고리즘에 비해 능동적이고 효율적임을 보여 이를 제안한다. GCRA(Generic Cell Rate Algorithm)를 통해 트래픽 관련 파라미터의 지정에 관련한 Nonconforming 셀률에 의한 CDVT와 PCR의 분석을 시도한다. 이 때에도 마찬가지로 Percentage 알고리즘과 GCRA를 장면 전환 검출 데이터와의 상관관계를 통해 파라미터를 정하여 트래픽 관련 GCRA 알고리즘에 적용할 수 있다.

Design of Self-Timed Standard Library and Interface Circuit

  • We designed a self-timed interface circuit for efficient communication in IP (Intellectual Property)-based system with high-speed self-timed FIFO and a set of self-timed event logic library with 0.25um CMOS technology. Optimized self-timed standard cell layouts and Verilog models are generated for top-down design methodology. A method for mitigating a design bottleneck when it comes to tolerate clock skew is described. With clock control method and FIFO, we implemented high-speed 32bit-interface chip for self-timed system, which generated maximum system clock is 2.2GHz. The size of the core is about 1.1mm x 1.1mm.
