This paper showed how to analysis the object-based classification for wildfire fuel type map using Hyperion hyperspectral remote sensing data acquired in April, 2002 and compared the results of the object-based classification with the results of the pixel-based classification. Our methodological approach for wildfire fuel type map firstly processed correcting abnormal pixels and atypical bands and also calibrating atmospheric noise for enhanced image quality. Fuel type map is characterized by the results of the spectral mixture analysis(SMA). Object-based approach was based on segment-based endmember selection, while pixel-based method used standard SMA. To validate and compare, we used true-color high resolution orthoimagery.
Objective : Traditionally, standard access to the posterior fossa was a suboccipital craniectomy. After introducing the technique and benefit of posterior fossa craniotomy, several surgeons have used this procedure to manage various pathologies in posterior fossa in children. Though this approach offers several advantages over conventional suboccipital craniectomy, the elevation of bone flap is not easy in adult because of the irregular contour of inner bone surface and tight adhesion of dura to the skull. The aim of this article is to describe the technical aspects of this approach and to delineate the important landmarks for a safe and quick performance in adult. Methods : We report on our series of twenty-five adult patients who underwent craniotomy for posterior fossa pathologies between 2002 and 2005. The maximal follow-up period was 4 years. Results : None of the patients complained of persistent headache and no CSF leaks have occurred postoperatively. We have encountered only two cases of transient subcutaneous CSF retention after craniotomy. Three-dimensional reconstruction of the CT scan confirmed the well-fitted suboccipital bone contour after craniotomy. And patients were satisfied with the cosmetic results. Conclusion : This method is safer and simpler. It restores normal anatomical planes and improves protection of the contents of the posterior fossa. The authors recommend craniotomy as an alternative method of access to the posterior fossa in all age groups.
Vibration-based fault detection and condition monitoring of rotating machinery, using statistical process control (SPC) combined with statistical pattern recognition methodology, has been widely investigated by many researchers. In particular, the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is considered as a powerful tool for feature extraction in detecting fault on rotating machinery. Although DWT significantly reduces the dimensionality of the data, the number of retained wavelet features can still be significantly large. Then, the use of standard multivariate SPC techniques is not advised, because the sample covariance matrix is likely to be singular, so that the common multivariate statistics cannot be calculated. Even though many feature-based SPC methods have been introduced to tackle this deficiency, most methods require a parametric distributional assumption that restricts their feasibility to specific problems of process control, and thus limit their application. This study proposes a nonparametric multivariate control chart method, based on multiscale wavelet scalogram (MWS) features, that overcomes the limitation posed by the parametric assumption in existing SPC methods. The presented approach takes advantage of multi-resolution analysis using DWT, and obtains MWS features with significantly low dimensionality. We calculate Hotelling's $T^2$-type monitoring statistic using MWS, which has enough damage-discrimination ability. A bootstrap approach is used to determine the upper control limit of the monitoring statistic, without any distributional assumption. Numerical simulations demonstrate the performance of the proposed control charting method, under various damage-level scenarios for a bearing system.
The ordinary multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) approach requires two types of input, alternative values and criterion weights, and employs two schemes of alternative prioritization, dominance and potential optimality. This paper allows for incomplete information on both types of input and gives rise to the dominance relationships and potential optimality of alternatives. Unlike the earlier studies, we emphasize that incomplete information frequently takes the form of strict inequalities, such as strict orders and strict bounds, rather than weak inequalities. Then the issues of rising importance include: (1) The standard mathematical programming approach to prioritize alternatives cannot be used directly, because the feasible region for the permissible decision parameters becomes an open set. (2) We show that the earlier methods replacing the strict inequalities with weak ones, by employing a small positive number or zeroes, which closes the feasible set, may cause a serious problem and yield unacceptable prioritization results. Therefore, we address these important issues and develop a useful and simple method, without selecting any small value for the strict preference information. Given strict information on both types of decision parameters, we first construct a nonlinear program, transform it into a linear programming equivalent, and finally solve it via a two-stage method. An application is also demonstrated herein.
In this paper we propose a new approach that recognizes the similar categories by weighting distinctive features. The approach is based on the PLSA that is one of the effective methods for the object categorization. PLSA is introduced from the information retrieval of text domain. PLSA, unsupervised method, shows impressive performance of category recognition. However, it shows relatively low performance for the similar categories which have the analog distribution of the features. In this paper, we consider the effective object categorization for the similar categories by weighting the mainly distinctive features. We present that the proposed algorithm, weighted PLSA, recognizes similar categories. Our method shows better results than the standard PLSA.

A novel multiclassifier system (MCS) strategy is proposed and applied to a text-dependent speaker verification task. The presented scheme optimizes the linear combination of classifiers on an on-line basis. In contrast to ordinary MCS approaches, neither a priori distributions nor pre-tuned parameters are required. The idea is to improve the most accurate classifier by making use of the incremental information provided by the second classifier. The on-line multiclassifier optimization approach is applicable to any pattern recognition problem. The proposed method needs neither a priori distributions nor pre-estimated weights, and does not make use of any consideration about training/testing matching conditions. Results with Yoho database show that the presented approach can lead to reductions in equal error rate as high as 28%, when compared with the most accurate classifier, and 11% against a standard method for the optimization of linear combination of classifiers.

The aim of this paper is to assess the reliability and accuracy of the PSI standard method, used in many previous works, for the quantification of ND uncertainties in the SPERT-III RIA transient, by quantifying the discrepancy between the actual inserted reactivity and the original static reactivity worth and their associated uncertainties. The assessment has shown that the inherent S3K neutron source renormalization scheme, introduced before starting the transient, alters the original static reactivity worth of the transient CR and reduces the associated uncertainty due to the ND perturbation. In order to overcome these limitations, two additional methods have been developed based on CR adjustment. The comparative study performed between the three methods has showed clearly the high sensitivity of the obtained results to the selected approach and pointed out the importance of using the right procedure in order to simulate correctly the effect of ND uncertainties on the overall parameters in a RIA transient. This study has proven that the approach that allows matching the original static reactivity worth and starting the transient from criticality is the most reliable method since it conservatively preserves the effect of the ND uncertainties on the inserted reactivity during a RIA transient.

In this paper, we propose the distributed robust beamforming design scheme in cognitive two-way amplify-and-forward (AF) relay networks with imperfect channel state information (CSI). Assuming the CSI errors follow a complex Gaussian distribution, the objective of this paper is to design the robust beamformer which minimizes the total transmit power of the collaborative relays. This design will guarantee the outage probability of signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) beyond a target level at each secondary user (SU), and satisfies the outage probability of interference generated on the primary user (PU) above the predetermined maximum tolerable interference power. Due to the multiple CSI uncertainties in the two-way transmission, the probabilistic constrained optimization problem is intractable and difficult to obtain a closed-form solution. To deal with this, we reformulate the problem to the standard form through a series of matrix transformations. We then accomplish the problem by using the probabilistic approach based on two sorts of Bernstein-type inequalities and the worst-case approach based on S-Procedure. The simulation results indicate that the robust beamforming designs based on the probabilistic method and the worst-case method are both robust to the CSI errors. Meanwhile, the probabilistic method can provide higher feasibility rate and consumes less power.
The edge descriptor proposed by MPEG-7 standard is a representative approach for the contents-based image retrieval using the edge information. In the edge descriptor, the edge information is the edge histogram derived from a gray-level value image. This paper proposes a new method which extracts color edge information from color images and a new approach for the contents-based image retrieval based on the color edge histogram. The poposed method and technique are applied to image retrieval of the e-catalogue. For the evaluation, the results of image retrieval using the proposed approach are compared with those of image retrieval using the edge descriptor by MPEG-7 and the statistics shows the efficiency of the proposed method. The proposed color edge model is made by combining the R,G,B channel components vectorially and by characterizing the vector norm of the edge map. The color edge histogram using the direction of the color edge model is subsequently used for the contents-based image retrieval.
In this study, for development of the MDO (Multi Disciplinary Optimization) framework, the flight dynamic characteristic parameters of the ChangGong-91, a light aircraft, were extracted by an analytical method based on various semi-empirical methods, and the flight test method was compared and evaluated. The semi-empirical analysis methods for comparative subjects were the Perkins method, McCormick method, and Smetana method. The major stability/control derivatives and dynamic factors were calculated, using each method. As the comparison criteria, the flight test derivative estimates and dynamic factors were processed, using the output error method. Additionally, the flight characteristics of the light aircraft were analyzed and evaluated according to the provisions of the Korean Airworthiness Standard (KAS) of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and MIL-F-8785C for the U.S. military.
