  • In this paper, we consider the problem of finding the stability region in state space for uncertain linear systems with input saturation. For stability analysis, two Lyapunov functions are chosen. One is for the lineal region and the other is for the saturated legion. Piecewise Lyapunov functions are obtained by solving successive linear matrix inequalites(LMIs) relaxations. A sufficient condition for robust stability is derived in the form of stability region of initial conditions. A numerical example shows the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Vehicle stability is a very important subject in vehicle design and control, because vehicle safety is closely dependent upon its dynamic stability. For the vehicle stability analysis, the nonlinear vehicle model of a mid-size car with three DOF - longitudinal, lateral and yaw - is employed. A rigorous method is used to determine the vehicle stability region in plane motion. An algorithm is used to materialize a topology theorem, which enables to find the exact stability region. A stability criterion for the critical cornering is proposed.

  • This paper deals with the problem of estimating the asymptotic stability region(ASR) of uncertain variable structure systems with bounded control. Using linear matrix inequalities(LMIs) we estimate the ASR and we show the exponential stability of the closed-loop control system in the estimated ASR. We show that our estimate is always better than the estimate of [3].

  • This paper investigated the errect of the right-half-plane zero on stability in the buck-boost DC-DC converter which is one type of the switching regulator and the stability region for the variation of the output current is obtained by evaluating the feedback gain. And it is clarified that the damping ratio decreases gradually by increase of the feedback loop gain and the regulation system of the converter becomes unstable, and from the transient response analysis we obtainedthe stability region about this converter. From above result it is known that the stability decreases by the existence of the right-half-plane zero. For the improvement of stability, we carried out one pole compensation in feedback circuit and obtained the avaliable stability region in relation to the gain bandwidth product from the stability and transient response analysis. These results were established experiment.

  • This study investigates the characteristics of the Gross Moist Stability (GMS) over the tropics. The GMS summarizes the relationship between large-scale entropy forcing due to radiation and surface fluxes and the response of smaller-scale convection. The GMS is able to explain both to where moist entropy is advected by the atmospheric circulation and how deep the moisture flux convergence is in the tropical region. In the deep convective region, positive GMS appears over the warm pool region due to the strong column-integrated moisture convergence and the ensuing export of moist entropy to the environment. The vertical advection of moist entropy dominates over the horizontal advection in this region. Meanwhile, over the eastern tropical ITCZ region, which is characterized by shallow convective area, import of moist entropy by horizontal winds is dominant compared to the vertical moist entropy advection. Future changes in the GMS are also examined using the 22 CMIP5 model simulations. A decrease in the GMS appears widely across the tropics, but its increase occurs over the western-central equatorial Pacific. It is evident that the increased GMS region corresponds to an increased region of precipitation, implying that strengthened convection in the future due to increased entropy forcing exports the enhanced moist energy to stabilize the environment.

  • The present work is to estimate the stability region of the State-Dependent Riccati Equation (SDRE) controlled system, which is used for a decentralized coordinated attitude control in satellite formation flying. In this research, currently emerging methods which estimate region of attraction for the SDRE controllers are introduced and the methods are applied to attitude control systems. The results guarantee the stability of the given decentralized coordinated attitude control system in satellite formation flying.

  • The fluid-elastic instability analysis of the U-tube bundle inside the steam generator is very important not only for detailed design stage of the SG but also for the change of operating condition of the nuclear powerplant. However the calculation procedure for the fluid-elastic instability was so complicated that the consolidated computer program has not been developed until now. In this study, the numerical calculation procedure and the computer program to obtain the stability ratio were developed. The thermal-hydraulic data in the region of secondary side of steam generator was obtained from executing the ATHOS3 code. The distribution of the fluid density can be calculated by using the void fraction, enthalpy, and operating pressure. The effective mass distribution along the U-tube was required to calculate natural frequency and dynamic mode shape using the ANSYS ver. 5.6 code. Finally, stability ratios for selected tubes of the CE type steam generator were computed. We considered the YGN 3.4 nuclear powerplant as the model plant, and stability ratios were investigated at the flow exit region of the U-tube. From our results, stability ratios at the central and the outside region of the tube bundle are much higher than those of other region.

  • Electrical conductivity and thermoelectric power of the ferrous ferrite system of (Mg0.29-yMnyFe0.71)3-$\delta$O4 have been measured as function of the thermodynamic variables, cationic composition(y), temperature(T) and oxygen partial pressure(Po2) under thermodynamic equilibrium conditions at elevated temperatures. On the basis of the electrical properties-phase stability correlation, the stability regions of the ferrite spinel and its neighboring phases have been subsequently located in the log Po2 vs. y and log Po2 vs. 1/T planes in the ranges of 0 y 0.29, 1100 T/$^{\circ}C$ 1400 and 10-14 Po2/atm 1. The stability region, Δlog Po2(y, 1/T), of the ferrite spinel single phase widens with increasing Mn-content(y) and the boundaries of each region are linear against 1/T with negative slopes.

  • This paper deals with the problem of estimating the asymptotic stability region(ASR) of uncertain variable structure systems with bounded controllers. Using linear matrix inequalities(LMIs) we estimate the ASR and show the exponential stability of the closed-loop control system in the estimated ASR. We give a simple LMI-based algorithm to get estimates of the ASR. We also give a synthesis algorithm to design a switching surface which will make the estimated ASR big. Finally, we give numerical examples in order to show that our method can give better results than the previous ones for a certain class of uncertain variable structure systems with bounded controllers.

  • This paper investigates the control problem of evaporator superheat, i.e., the difference between the temperature of the refrigerant at the entrance region of an evaporator and that at the exit region, for multi-type air-conditioning/refrigeration systems. Mathematical equations describing the characteristics of compressor, condenser, evaporator, and electronic expansion valve are first derived. Then, the transfer functions from the current input of the electronic expansion valve to wall temperatures of evaporator tube at two-phase region and superheated region, respectively, are derived. The stability and performance of the closed loop system with a PI controller are analyzed by Nyquist stability criterion. Simulation results are provided.
