STUDY ON HURWITZ STABILITY CONDITIONS OF THE CHARACTERISTIC POLYNOMIALS USING THE COEFFICIENT DIAGRAM (계수도를 이용한 특성다항식의 Hurwitz 안정조건에 관한 연구)

  • We investigate the Hurwitz stability condition using the coefficient diagram. The coefficient diagram consists of a plot of logarithmic values of the coefficients of the characteristic polynomial versus the degree of the coresponding coefficients. The logarithmic value of the coefficient of the characteristic polynomials are plotted in the descending order. Using the Bhattacharyya, Chapellat and Keel's algorithm, the sufficient and necessary condition for Hurwitz stability are reconstructed using the coefficient diagram. With the coefficient diagram we also present some necessary or sufficient conditions for Hurwitz stability of polynomials. In addition we obtain a lower bound for the Manabe parameter $\tau$.

  • In the case of a linear time-varying system, it is difficult to apply the conventional stability conditions of RHC (Receding Horizon Control) to real physical systems because of computational complexity comes from time-varying system and backward Riccati equation. Therefore, in this study, a frozen time RHC for a linear discrete time-varying system is proposed. Since the proposed control law is obtained by time-invariant Riccati equation solved by forward iterations at each control time, its stability can be ensured by matrix inequality condition and the stability condition based on horizon for a time-invariant system, and they can be applied to real physical systems effectively in comparison with the conventional RHC.

  • A fuzzy controller designed by mini-max-gravity(MMG) method is essentially nonlinear with respect to the controller's input and output relationship, and stability analysis is thus needed to construct a stable control system. This paper deals with a design method of a position-type MMG fuzzy controller stable in a sense of Lyapunov when considered is a single-input-single-output linear, stable plant. We first introduce a method to construct a Laypunov function by using an eigen-value of A matrix of the linear, stable plant dynamics and then we derive an asymtotic stability condition in terms of scale factors for fuzzy state variables and controller gain. The stability condition is found reasonably practical through comparing the theoretical stability region with that obtained from simulations.

  • In this paper, we considers the problem of designing an observer for bilinear systems with unknown input. A sufficient condition for the asymptotic stability of the proposed observer is derived by means of delectability, invariant zeros, and stable subspace. In sufficient condition, the bound which guarantees the asymptotic stability was derived, which based on the Lyapunov stability. And Observer existing conditions are suggested in various cases. Through a simple example, we derived the observer structure and the bound which guarantees the asymptotic stability.

  • Various controllers such as proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers have been designed and optimized for load-following issues in nuclear reactors. To achieve high performance, gain tuning is of great importance in PID controllers. In this work, gains of a PID controller are optimized for power-level control of a typical pressurized water reactor using particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. The point kinetic is used as a reactor power model. In PSO, the objective (cost) function defined by decision variables including overshoot, settling time, and stabilization time (stability condition) must be minimized (optimized). Stability condition is guaranteed by Lyapunov synthesis. The simulation results demonstrated good stability and high performance of the closed-loop PSO-PID controller to response power demand.

  • This paper presents the stability characteristics of a rotor-bearing system supported by actively controlled hydrodynamic journal bearing. The proportional and derivative controls including coupled motion are adopted for the control algorithm to control the hydrodynamic journal bearing with a circumferentially groove. Also, the cavitation algorithm implementing the Jakobsson-Floberg-Olsson boundary condition is adopted to predict cavitation regions in the fluid film more accurately than conventional analysis which uses the Reynolds condition. The stability characteristics are investigated with the Routh-Hurwitz criteria using the linear dynamic coefficients which are obtained from the perturbation method. The stability characteristics of the rotor-bearing system supported by active controlled hydrodynamic journal bearing are investigated for various control gain. It is found that the speed at onset of instability is increased for both proportional and derivative control of the bearing, and the proportional and derivative control of coupled motion is more effective than proportional and derivative control of uncoupled motion.

  • This study was aimed to assess combustion stability for coaxial swirl injector and FOOF impinging injector which would be candidates in liquid rocket engine combustors. Simulating combustion tests under atmospheric condition have been conducted by gaseous oxygen and the mixture of methane and propane, using two actual injectors. By analyzing the measured dynamic pressure signals, we have evaluated the combustion stability margin of both injectors by drawing a stability map.

  • In this paper, we consider the problem of finding the stability region in state space for uncertain linear systems with input saturation. For stability analysis, two Lyapunov functions are chosen. One is for the lineal region and the other is for the saturated legion. Piecewise Lyapunov functions are obtained by solving successive linear matrix inequalites(LMIs) relaxations. A sufficient condition for robust stability is derived in the form of stability region of initial conditions. A numerical example shows the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Two main results are presented in relation to subordination, self-decomposability and semi-stability. One of the result is that strict semi-stability of subordinand process by selfdecomposable subordinator gives semi-selfdecomposability of the subordinated process. The second result is a sufficient condition for any subordinated process arising from a semi-stable subordinand and a semi-stable subordinator to be semi-selfdecomposable.

  • In this paper, we present a practical Mittag Leffler stability for fractional-order nonlinear systems depending on a parameter. A sufficient condition on practical Mittag Leffler stability is given by using a Lyapunov function. In addition, we study the problem of stability and stabilization for some classes of fractional-order systems.
