Intelligent Parameter Estimation of a Induction Motor Using Immune Algorithm

  • This paper suggests the techniques in determining the values of the steady-state equivalent circuit parameters of a three-phase squirrel-cage induction machine using immune algorithm. The parameter estimation procedure is based on the steady state phase current versus slip and input power versus slip characteristics. The proposed estimation algorithm is of a nonlinear kind based on clonal selection in immune algorithm. The machine parameters are obtained as the solution of a minimization of least-squares cost function by immune algorithm. Simulation shows better results than the conventional approaches.

  • 본 연구는 일반적으로 많이 사용되고 있는 단상 또는 3상 유도전동기 보다 많은 특성을 가지는 5상 1.5Kw 220V, 농형 유도전동기를 개발한 연구결과의 내용이다. 전동기 설계 방법에는 Maxwell 2D와 전동기 해석 및 설계 프로그램을 활용 하였다. 설계된 5상 농형 유도전동기의 고정자와 회전자 및 외형의 결과와 제작된 전동기의 형태가 제시 되었다. 5상 고정자 권선은 집중권을 채택하였으며, 이에 따른 제3 고조파 성분의 영향을 이론적으로 해석 하였으며, 시뮬레이션 결과와 실제 시스템의 운전특성을 보여준다.

  • This paper presents a new approach regarding thermal characteristics associated with a design of the high efficiency motor. Electrical conduction materials, such as coil and aluminum embedded in the core generate high heat exerting negative influence on both lifetime and performance of machine. Thus, it is necessary to design high efficiency motor considering heat transfer in order to improve motor performance and to be protected against overheating. In this paper, firstly, numerical analysis of electromagnetic field is carried out by the nonlinear transient finite element method (FEM). Secondly, the linear static FEA of magneto-thermal field is implemented by applying source current computed by the nonlinear transient analysis. FE results are validated in terms of electromagnetics and heat transfer by experiments. And then, the pseudo-transient topology optimization using a multi-objective function is performed. The proposed method is applied to a squirrel cage single-phase induction motor of the scroll compressor.

The Implementation of a Discrete PI Speed Controller for an Induction Motor (유도전동기용 이상 PI형 속도제어기의 구성)

  • In this paper, non-linear state equations for a 3-phase, 220V, 0.4 KW, squirrel cage induction motor have been derived using the d-q transformation and then these equations have been linearized around an operating point by a small perturbation method. Root loci on the s-plane with repect to the changes of slip S and supply frequency f have been studied. Based on the above results, the derived linear state equations have been augmented to the 6th order, including the output velocity feedback and a discrete PI speed controller. Using the new state equations, stability regions on the Kp-Kl plane have been investigated for slip S and sampling time T. In designing a discrete PI controller, the coefficients Kp and Kl around the normal operating point (220V,1,692rpm,60Hz)have been chosen under the assumptions that each response to a perturbation input of reference speed and load torque be underdamped and dominated by a pair of complex poles. Step responses in the experimental system using an Intel SDK-86 and an optimized PWM inverter show satisfactory results that the maximum overshoots and damped frequency are well coincided with ones from the computer simulation.

Stator Current Processing-Based Technique for Bearing Damage Detection in Induction Motors

  • Induction motors are the most commonly used electrical drives because they are rugged, mechanically simple, adaptable to widely different operating conditions, and simple to control. The most common faults in squirrel-cage induction motors are bearing, stator and rotor faults. Surveys conducted by the IEEE and EPRI show that the most common fault in induction motor is bearing failure (${\sim}$40% of failure). Thence, this paper addresses experimental results for diagnosing faults with different rolling element bearing damage via motor current spectral analysis. Rolling element bearings generally consist of two rings, an inner and outer, between which a set of balls or rollers rotate in raceways. We set the experimental test bed to detect the rolling-element bearing misalignment of 3 type induction motors with normal condition bearing system, shaft deflection system by external force and a hole drilled through the outer race of the shaft end bearing of the four pole test motor. This paper takes the initial step of investigating the efficacy of current monitoring for bearing fault detection by incipient bearing failure. The failure modes are reviewed and the characteristics of bearing frequency associated with the physical construction of the bearings are defined. The effects on the stator current spectrum are described and related frequencies are also determined. This is an important result in the formulation of a fault detection scheme that monitors the stator currents. We utilized the FFT, Wavelet analysis and averaging signal pattern by inner product tool to analyze stator current components. The test results clearly illustrate that the stator signature can be used to identify the presence of a bearing fault.

  • The line-start permanent magnet synchronous motor has a high efficiency and an advantage in constant speed operation regardless of the effect of load variation. However it is difficult to predict the performance of characteristics accurately, because of the unbalanced starting torque with the initial starting position of the rotor and the generation of a break torque. In this paper the dynamic characteristics of the line-start permanent magnet synchronous motor are described and compared with those of the squirrel-cage induction motor through the simulation to find the characteristics of the permanent magnets and the rotor bars in the line-start permanent magnet synchronous motor. Finally this paper gives the comparison between the simulation results and the experiment results.

  • This paper proposes a low-cost switched-mode rectifier (SMR) for a small-scale wind turbine with a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) system. Also, a sensorless Fuzzy MPPT control is realized by the proposed system. In the PMSG system with the SMR, the synchronous impedance can be replaced as the input inductor of a boost converter. Moreover, the sensorless MPPT control using the Fuzzy technique is carried out by the duty-ratio regulation of the SMR. The relation between the generating power and the duty-ratio is ruled by the chain rule. The wind turbine model is implemented by the squirrel cage induction motor and generated the variable torque when the generator speed is varied. To verify the performance of the proposed system, simulation and experimental results are executed.

  • This paper propose a development of surface permanent mount synchronous generator(SPMSG) for 5-phase 5Kw in order to study a polyphase ac machinery that keep hold of advantages more than traditional three-phase squirrel-cage induction motor, such as reducing a amplitude of torque pulsation decreasing electric noises, and increasing the reliability. Design methods of the generator use a development tools with Maxwell 2D and Simplorer. There are designed drawing of manufactured frames of the SPMSG. A amplitude and waveform of the generated electromotive force, FFT analysis of harmonics within output voltages, and reviewing a experiment results are shown by variable output frequency. We are presenting a design and manufacture methods for the SPMSG.

  • 본 논문은 정적 편심과 회전자 도체 봉 파손에 대해서 각각 특성 해석을 한 후, 두 고장이 복합된 상태를 특성 해석하였다. 해석 대상 전동기는 coupled magnetic circuits 방법으로 모델링 하고, 시뮬레이션하였다. 특성 해석에 필요한 중요 파라미터인 인덕턴스는 winding function 이론으로 계산하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과 중에서 고정자 전류를 전류 신호 분석 기술로 특성 해석을 하였다. 특성 해석 결과에서 고장 상태가 변하면 특정 주파수의 크기가 변하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 복합 고장에서는 정적 편심은 아래쪽 측 대역 성분의 크기를 증가시키고, 회전자 도체 봉 파손은 기본 특이 주파수 주변에 기생 성분을 만드는 것을 알 수 있었다.
