Fluidelastic instability of a curved tube array in single phase cross flow

  • Experimental study on the fluidelastic instability (FEI) of a curved tube bundle in single phase downward cross flow is investigated for the design qualification and analysis input preparation of helical coiled steam generator tubing. A 6×9 normal square curved tube array with equal and different vertical/horizontal pitch-to-diameter ratio was under-tested up to 6 m/s in term of gap flow velocity to measure the critical velocity for FEI. The critical velocity for FEI was measured at the turning point from the vibration amplitude plot along the gap flow velocity. Our test results were compared with straight tube results and published data in the design guideline. The applicability of the current design guidelines to a curved tube bundle is also assessed. We found that introducing frequency difference in a curved tube array increases the critical velocity for fluidelastic instability.

Capacity and the moment-curvature relationship of high-strength concrete filled steel tube columns under eccentric loads

  • Recently, CFT column has been well-studied and reported on, because a CFT column has certain superior structural properties as well as good productivity, execution efficiency, and improved rigidity over existing columns. However, CFT column still has problems clearing the capacity evaluation between its steel tube member and high-strength concrete materials. Also, research on concrete has examined numerical values for high-strength concrete filled steel square tube columns (HCFT) to explain transformation performance (M-${\phi}$) when a short-column receives equal flexure-moment from axial stress. Moment-curvature formulas are proposed for HCFT columns based on analytic assumption described in this paper. This study investigated structural properties (capacity, curvature), through a series of experiments for HCFT with key parameters, such as strength of concrete mixed design (58.8 MPa), width-thickness ratio (D/t), buckling length to sectional width ratio (Lk/D) and concrete types (Zeolite, Fly-ash, Silica-fume) under eccentric loads. A comparative analysis executed for the AISC-LRFD, AIJ and Takanori Sato, etc. Design formulas to estimate the axial load (N)-moment (M)-curvature (${\phi}$) are proposed for HCFT columns based on tests results described in this paper.

  • Concrete filled steel tube column has a large load carrying capacity through its steel and concrete interaction which makes it useful in construction. However, it has not been used often in a practical construction field. This is partly due to the non-destructive inspection method for concrete filling which has yet to be established. Furthermore, there are the lack of test data and a practical method in evaluating the ultimate load carrying capacity of concrete filled steel tube column. This paper will attempt to predict the ultimate strength of short concrete filled square tubular steel columns through conducting several tests. To accumulate the new test data on concrete filled steel tube columns, a total of 42 specimens of steel tubular columns were monotonically tested under concentric axial force, having the slenderness ratio(${\lambda}=10,\;15,\;20$), width-thickness ratio(d/t=25.0, 33.3) and concrete strengths($F_{c}=210,\;240,\;270kg/cm^{2}$). The hollow sections and concrete filled steel columns were compared to check the lateral confinded effects by steel tube. Through these test results, we propose a coefficient k=3.64 for the strength evaluation formula(10) of concrte filled tubular steel short columns.

탄소섬유튜브로 횡구속된 각형 콘크리트 기둥의 압축강도 성능에 관한 연구 (Strength Characteristics of Square Concrete Column Confined by Carbon Composite Tube)

  • 탄소섬유튜브는 기존의 콘크리트 기둥에 강도와 연성을 제공하여 길이방향 및 횡방향 철근을 대신할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 탄소섬유튜브에 의해 구속된 각형 콘크리트의 축하중에 대한 실험 및 해석적 연구를 수행하였다. 탄소섬유튜브는 길이방향에 대하여 90$^{\circ}$$\pm$30$^{\circ}$, 90$^{\circ}$$\pm$45$^{\circ}$로 섬유의 방향을 조합하여 필라멘트 와인딩 방법으로 제작하였다. 10,000kN UTM을 이용하여 단조축하중을 재하하였다. 섬유의 방향, 튜브의 두께에 따른 횡구속된 콘크리트 기둥의 응력-변형률 관계를 고찰하였다. 탄소섬유튜브에 의해 횡구속된 콘크리트의 압축강도와 연성을 예측하기 위하여 제안된 실험식은 실험결과를 적절히 예측하는 것으로 나타났다.

알루미늄/GFRP 혼성 사각튜브의 정적 압축 붕괴 및 에너지 흡수 특성 (Axial Crush and Energy Absorption Characteristics of Aluminum/GFRP Hybird Square Tubes)

  • In this study, static axial crush tests were performed with the new aluminum/GFRP hybrid tube. Glass/Epoxy prepregs were wrapped around an aluminum tube and co-cured. The failure of the hybrid tube was stable and progressive without trigger mechanism, and specific energy absorption was increased to the maximum of 33% in comparison with the aluminum tube. Effective energy absorption is possible for an inner aluminum tube because a wrapped composite tube constrains the deflection of an aluminum tube. The failure of a hybrid composite tube was stable without trigger mechanism because the inner aluminum tube could play the role of the crack initiator and controller. Mean crushing load could be calculated by modifying the plastic hinge collapse model for hybrid materials. The predicted results by this analytical model showed good agreement with the experimental results. It can be said that Aluminum/Glass-Epoxy hybrid tube is suitable for the vehicle front structure because this hybrid tube shows effective energy absorption, easy production, and simple application capability for RTM process.

Residual bond behavior of high strength concrete-filled square steel tube after elevated temperatures

  • This paper presents experimental results on the residual bond-slip behavior of high strength concrete-filled square steel tube (HSCFST) after elevated temperatures. Three parameters were considered in this test: (a) temperature (i.e., $20^{\circ}C$, $200^{\circ}C$, $400^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$, $800^{\circ}C$); (b) concrete strength (i.e., C60, C70, C80); (c) anchorage length (i.e., 250 mm, 400 mm). A total of 17 HSCFST specimens were designed for push-out test after elevated temperatures. The load-slip curves at the loading end and free end were obtained, in addition, the distribution of steel tube strain and the bond stress along the anchorage length were analyzed. Test results show that the shape of load-slip curves at loading ends and free ends are similar. With the temperature constantly increasing, the bond strength of HSCFST increases first and then decreases; furthermore, the bond strength of HSCFCT proportionally increases with the anchoring length growing. Additionally, the higher the temperature is, the smaller and lower the bond damage develops. The energy dissipation capacity enhances with the concrete strength rasing, while, decreases with the temperature growing. What is more, the strain and stress of steel tubes are exponentially distributed, and decrease from the free end to loading end. According to experimental findings, constitutive formula of the bond slip of HSCFST experienced elevated temperatures is proposed, which fills well with test data.

  • 콘크리트 충전강관에 사용되는 강관의 제작법은 재단된 4장의 플레이트를 모서리에서 용접하는 일반강관 제작법과, ㄷ형으로 절곡성형과정을 거쳐 2-Seam으로 용접하는 제작방법, 그리고 원형강관을 압축하여 4각형태로 만드는 방법등이 일반적으로 사용되며, 강관제작에 사용되는 용접방법과 용접량의 선택은 강관 제작비용에 큰 부분을 차지하고 있다. 새로운 제작형식으로 개발된 각형강관은 4장의 플레이트를 ㄱ형으로 절곡성형한 후 강관 폭의 중앙에서 4-Seam Flare 용접하는 방식이다. 본 연구에서는 새로운 제작형식의 CFT 각형 기둥에 대하여 용접량 평가를 위한 실험방법을 제시하고, 강관 제작법, 강관두께 및 용접량을 변수로 총 6개의 실험체를 제작하여 구조실험 및 해석을 수행하여 강관내부의 수압에 따른 강관의 거동을 평가하였다.

  • This paper investigated structural behaviors of joint of concrete filled steel tube column and P.C reinforced concrete beam through a series of hysteretic behavior experiment. The results are summarised as follows: (1) The joint stiffness of concrete filled square steel tube column and P.C reinforecd beam was higher than that of concrete filled circular steel tube column and P.C reinforecd beam, and it was decreased as the increase of the number of hysteretic cycle. (2) The aspects of the hysteretic behavior in the joint was stable as the increase of the number of hysteretic cycle, and rotation resisting capacity of joint of concrete filled square steel tube column and P.C reinforced concrete beam was higher than those of the concrete filled circular steel tube column and P.C reinforced concrete beam. (3) Some restriction must be put upon the ratio of axial force in this joint model because the load carrying capacity was decreased by flexural and flexural-torsional buckling in case of the ratio of axial force 0.6. (4) The emprical formula to predict the ultimate capacity of joint model to superimpose shearing strength of steel web(H section) and bending strength of reinforced concrete beam was expected.

경량화 알루미늄-GFRP 혼성 사각관 보의 굽힘성능 및 붕괴 메커니즘 (Bending Performances and Collapse Mechanisms of Light-weight Aluminum-GERP Hybrid Square Tube Beams)

  • 자동차 충돌이나 전복사고에 있어서 부재들의 변형은 축방향 압축붕괴와 함께 굽힘붕괴가 혼합된 변형양상을 보여주고 있으며, 자동차에 사용되는 대부분의 박벽관 부재는 굽힘붕괴가 주된 붕괴형태로 나타나고 있다. 하지만 혼성 사각관의 굽힘붕괴에 대한 연구는 축방향 붕괴의 연구에 비해 많이 부족한 현실이다. 본 논문에서는 알루미늄-복합재료 혼성 사각관의 굽힘 붕괴 거동 및 에너지 흡수 특성을 실험적 방법으로 연구하여 경량화 구조부재로서의 적용가능성을 조사하였다. 접착필름 살입형 경화법으로 제작된 알루미늄-복합재료 혼성 사각관 보에 대해 복합 재료 층의 적층두께와 적층 각에 따른 굽힘 성능을 평가하였다. 본 혼성 사각관 보는 복합재료만으로 구성된 사각관 보에서 발생할 수 있는 불안정한 붕괴모드를 안정적인 붕괴로 전환시키면서, 단순 알루미늄 사각관에 비해 에너지 흡수 능력이 향상되었고, 특히 $[0^{\circ}/90^{\circ}]s$를 적층한 혼성 사각관의 경우 벽두께 1mm인 알루미늄 사각관 시험편과 비교하여 흡수에너지가 1.78배 증가하였고 단위무게당 흡수에너지는 1.29배로 증가함을 보였다.

정사각 모자형 박판튜브의 에너지흡수특성 및 최적 용접간격 (Energy Absorption Characteristics and Optimal Welding Space of Square Hat Type Thin-walled Tube)

  • 본 연구에서는 유한요소해석을 통해 점용접된 정사각 모자형 박판튜브의 적정 용접간격을 제시해보았다. 적정 용접간격은 에너지흡수 측면에 기준을 두었다. 이를 위해 먼저, 실제 압괴특성을 반영하는 유한요소 모델이 확립하였다. 실제 압괴 특성을 반영하는 유한요소 모델은 본 연구에서 수행된 실험결과에 기초하여 설정하였다. 이 과정에서 다음과 같은 결과들을 도출하였다. (1) 모자형 박판튜브의 압괴해석시 원활한 접힘을 유도하고 과도변형과 접촉에 의한 수치오류 및 비정상 압괴거동을 방지하기 위해 적정 요소크기와 해석시간에 대한 예비연구가 필요하다. (2) 다양한 용접간격의 유한요소모델들에 대한 압괴해석을 거쳐 주어진 폭에 대해 최대 에너지 흡수 용접간격 [식 (1)]을 제시하였다. 또한 최적용접 간격의 모자형 박판튜브는 후폭비 (t/w)가 커질수록 에너지흡수능력 이 증가한다. (3) 다양한 두께와 폭을 갖는 사각튜브에 대한 유한요소해석을 통해, 사각튜브 흡수에너지 예측에 있어 평균압괴하중 방법의 유효성을 검증하였다. 이를 토대로 후폭비항으로 표현되는 수정된 평균 압괴하중으로 최적용접간격을 갖는 모자형 박판튜브의 흡수에너지식 (5)를 제시하였다. 식 (5)의 적용시, 주어진 폭에 대해 (최적)용접간격을 유지함과 동시에 식 (6)의 한계후폭비를 만족해야 한다.
