  • A motion compression method by min s-norm composite fuzzy relational equations (dual-MCF) is proposed, where a motion sequence is divided into intra-pictures (I-pictures) and predictive-pictures (P-pictures). The I-pictures and the P-pictures are compressed by using uniform coders and non-uniform coders, respectively. A design method of non-uniform coders is proposed to perform an efficient compression and reconstruction of the P-pictures, based on the dual overlap level of fuzzy sets and a fuzzy equalization. An experiment using 10 P-pictures confirms that the root means square errors of the proposed method is decreased to 82.9% of that of the uniform coders, under the condition that the compression rate is 0.0055. An experiment of motion compression and reconstruction is also presented to confirm the effectiveness of the dual-MCF based on the non-uniform coders.

  • Objectives : The aim of this study was to examine the effect of electroacupuncture(EA) at an acupoint, HT8(Sobu), on normal humans by using power spectral analysis. We examined the effect on the Heart Rate Variability(HRV), and the balance of the autonomic nervous system. Methods : Thirty-two healthy volunteers participated in this study. EEG(Electroencephalogram) power spectrum exhibits site-specific and state-related differences in specific frequency bands. A thirty-two channel EEG study was carried out on thirty-two subjects(14 males; mean age=23.5 years old, 18 females; mean age=21.5 years old). HRV and EEG were simultaneously recorded before and after acupuncture. Results : In the ${\alpha}$(alpha) band, during the HT8-acupoint treatment, the power values in the ${\alpha}$(alpha) band significantly decreased(p<0.05) at 28 channels. In the ${\beta}$(beta) band significantly decreased(p<0.05) at 26 channels. In ${\delta}$(delta) band significantly decreased(p<0.05) at 18 channels. In ${\theta}$(theta) band significantly decreased(p<0.05) at 20 channels. ${\alpha}/{\beta}$ values were increased at 6 channels and decreased at 10 channels.${\beta}/{\theta}$ values were increased at 10 channels and decreased at 19 channels. Mean-RR(RR-interval), Complexity, RMSSD(Root mean square of successive differences), SDSD(Standard deviations differences between adjacent normal R-R intervals), norm HF showed a significantly increased and mean-HRV, norm LF, LHR(LF/HF Ratio) showed a significantly decreased after HT8-acupoint treatment(p<0.05). Conclusions : These results suggest that EA at the HT8 mostly causes significant changes on alpha(28 channels), beta(26 channels), delta(18 channels), theta(20 channels) bands and mean-HRV, mean-RR, complexity, RMSSD, SDSD, norm LF, norm HF and LHR. If practicing EA at the HT8, it will regulate the function of the cerebral cortex, decrease activity of the sympathetic and increase parasympathetic nervous activity.

  • The objectives of this study were to verify the effectiveness of the Theory of Planned Behavior in predicting exercise intention and exercise behavior, and to examine the determinants of exercise intention and exercise behavior in the sample of middle-aged women. The subjects who participated in this study were 263 middle-aged women. The instruments used for this study was a survey of general characteristics, attitude (18 items), subjective norm (2 items), perceived behavioral control (19 items), intention (3 items), and exercise behavior (7 items and 23 items for each). Analysis of data was done by use of descriptive statistics and correlation analysis with SAS PC program. The hypothetical model based on the Theory of Planned Behavior was tested by use of LISREL 8.12a program. The results of this study were as follows. 1) The overall fit of the hypothetical model to the data was good(chi-square=11.76, p=0.03, RMSEA=0.07, standardized RMR= 0.03, GFI=0.99, AGFI=0.94, NFI=0.97, NNFI=0.95). 2) Perceived behavioral control, attitude, and subjective norm were significant determinants of exercise intention, and these variables explained 35% of the total variance of exercise intention. 3) Perceived behavioral control, intention, and attitude were significant determinants of exercise behavior. But, subjective norm was not a significant determinants. These four variables explained 69% of the total variance of exercise behavior. In conclusion, this study shows the applicability of the Theory of Planned Behavior in explaining exercise behavior of middle-aged women, and suggests that health care providers should focus on perceived behavioral control and attitude rather than subjective norm to improve exercise behavior of middle-aged women.

  • A representation for the Drazin inverse of an arbitrary square matrix in terms of the eigenprojection was established by Rothblum [SIAM J. Appl. Math., 31(1976) :646-648]. In this paper perturbation results based on the representation for the Darzin inverse $A^D\;=\;(A-X)^{-1}(I-X)$ are developed. Norm estimates of $\parallel(A+E)^D-A^D\parallel_2/\parallel A^D\parallel_2$ and $\parallel(A+E)^#-A^D\parallel_2/\parallel A^D\parallel_2$ are derived when IIEI12 is small.

  • Let X be a Banach space and $X^*$ be its dual. In this paper, we give relationships among some parameters in $X^*$: ${\varepsilon}$-nonsquareness parameter, $J({\varepsilon},X^*)$; ${\varepsilon}$-boundary parameter, $Q({\varepsilon},X^*)$; the modulus of smoothness, ${\rho}_{X^*}({\varepsilon})$; and ${\varepsilon}$-Pythagorean parameter, $E({\varepsilon},X^*)$, and weak orthogonality parameter, ${\omega}(X)$ in X that imply uniform norm structure in X. Some existing results are extended or approved.

  • This note is devoted to establishing the boundedness for some classes of Littlewood-Paley square operators defined by the kernels without any regularity on the mixed radial-angular spaces. The corresponding vector-valued versions are also presented. As applications, the corresponding results for the Littlewood-Paley g∗λ function and the Littlewood-Paley function related to the area integrals are also obtained.

  • The paper is devoted to study a mesh-free analysis method of structural elements of engineering structures based on B-spline Wavelet Basis Function. First, by employing the moving-least square method and the weighted residual method to solve the structural displacement field, the control equations and the stiffness equations are obtained. And then constructs the displacement field of the structure by using the m-order B-spline wavelet basis function as a weight function. In the end, the paper selects the plane beam structure and the structure with opening hole to carry out numerical analysis of deformation and stress. The Finite Element Method calculation results are compared with the results of the method proposed, and the calculation results of the relative error norm is compared with Gauss weight function as weight function. Therefore, the clarification verified the validity and accuracy of the proposed method.

  • The conventional normalized least mean square (NLMS) algorithm is the most widely used for adaptive identification within a non-stationary input context. The convergence of the NLMS algorithm is independent of environmental changes. However, its steady state performance is impaired during input sequences with low dynamics. In this paper, we propose a new NLMS algorithm which is, in the steady state, insensitive to the time variations of the input dynamics. The square soot (SR)-NLMS algorithm is based on a normalization of the LMS adaptive filter input by the Euclidean norm of the tap-input. The tap-input power of the SR-NLMS adaptive filter is then equal to one even during sequences with low dynamics. Therefore, the amplification of the observation noise power by the tap-input power is cancelled in the misadjustment time evolution. The harmful effect of the low dynamics input sequences, on the steady state performance of the LMS adaptive filter are then reduced. In addition, the square root normalized input is more stationary than the base input. Therefore, the robustness of LMS adaptive filter with respect to the input non stationarity is enhanced. A performance analysis of the first- and the second-order statistic behavior of the proposed SR-NLMS adaptive filter is carried out. In particular, an analytical expression of the step size ensuring stability and mean convergence is derived. In addition, the results of an experimental study demonstrating the good performance of the SR-NLMS algorithm are given. A comparison of these results with those obtained from a standard NLMS algorithm, is performed. It is shown that, within a non-stationary input context, the SR-NLMS algorithm exhibits better performance than the NLMS algorithm.
