Numerical investigation of space effects of serial spur dikes on flow and bed changes by using Nays2D (수치모형을 이용한 수제 간격에 따른 흐름 및 하도변화 연구)

  • In this study, the characteristics of flow and bed changes with variation of space and length of serial spur dikes were investigated with 2 dimensional numerical simulation. Upstream spur dike was affected by flow and made a role as a single spur dike. As time increased, local scouring was developed around outside of spur dike, and migrated upstream. The aggradation of the bed at the back of spur-dike was made at the initial stage of experiment and numerical modelling. However, the aggradation of the bed was increased in the downstream area. The scour whole around a spur dike upstream was not deep as the Dimensionless spur-dike interval (b) of the dike increased. The depth of scour hole was nearly constant at the dynamic equilibrium state. The dimensionless scour depth ($y_s/H$) increased with L/b. The spur dike downstream had the characteristics of single spur dike as the L/b was larger than 10. However, the spur dike downstream was affected by the dike upstream as the L/b was less than 4, and the bed of the upstream in the spur dike was aggradated and the effects of the serial spur dikes on the bed decreased.

  • This study investigated the effects of a spur dike on the development processes, the migration, and the wave length of alternate bars with laboratory experiments. The bar wave length was shown to be shorter as the spur dikes got longer. The forcing effects of a long spur dike on the behavior of alternate bars were stronger than those of a shorter one. However, the bar height was not affected by the variation of the length of a spur dike. The bar migration speed was in inverse proportion to the bar wave length.

Flume experiments for studying the effects of submergence on three-dimensional flow structure around a spur dike (수제의 잠김 정도에 따른 3차원 흐름 구조 변화에 관한 실험 연구)

  • In this study, we conducted flume experiments to investigate the three-dimensional flow structures around a half-submerged spur dike in a straight open channel flume. The experiments were carried out under the two different Froude numbers, 0.10 and 0.18. The results were compared with the previous experimental result conducted for non-submerged spur dike. Three-dimensional instantaneous velocities were measured using Acoustic Doppler Velocimetry (ADV) and water elevation data were collected using ultra sonic distance sensor. The results show that submergence conditions of the spur dike largely influence the three-dimensional flow structures around a spur dike.

Flume experiments for turbulent flow around a spur dike (수제 주위의 난류 특성 변화에 대한 실험 연구)

  • In this study we carried out laboratory experiments to investigate the three-dimensional turbulent flows around a spur dike installed in a straight open channel flume. The experiments are conducted under the two different Froude numbers, 0.100 and 0.185. The three-dimensional instantaneous velocities are measured using the Acoustic Doppler Velocimetry (ADV) to obtain the time-averaged velocities and the turbulence stresses. The measured flow field reveal the existence of the recirculation zones downstream of the dike, which is characterized by high turbulence stresses near its boundaries. The results show that although the overall mean flow patterns between the low and high Froude number cases are very similar to each other, there exist moderate changes in the maximum dimensionless turbulence stresses and the maximum dimensionless bed shear stress with the increase of the Froude number.

  • The effects of the Froude numbers on turbulent flow patterns downstream of a non-submerged spur dike were investigated in a laboratory flume. Three-dimensional velocities and water depths were measured using Acoustic Doppler Velocimetry and distance sensors under three Froude number conditions ($Fr_d=0.31$, 0.38, and 0.46). The results show that there are marginal differences in the velocity fields downstream of a spur dike due to the change of the Froude number. However, an increase of the Froude number was found to reduce cross-sectional area in the flow and to increase the strength of the jet-like flow. The jet-like flow was observed to displace the location of the maximum turbulence kinetic energy within a cross section toward the inner bank in the transverse direction.

  • 수제는 하천 흐름을 적극적으로 제어하여 수심을 유지하고, 소류력을 증가시키는 한편 수세를 줄여 토사의 침전을 유포하고자 하는 하천 시설물이다. 수제에 의한 역흐름장(diverse flow fields) 혹은 수제역 (spur-dike zone)의 형성은 다양한 수중생물의 서식환경을 조성하거나 홍수 시 어류의 피난처로 사용될 수 있기 때문에 최근 중시되고 있는 자연형 하천 공법에 수제가 도입되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 3차원 수치모형을 이용하여 수제주변 흐름을 수치모의 하여 Rajaratnam과 Nwachukwu (1983)의 수리실험 자료 및 Tingsanchali와 Maheswaran (1990)의 2차원 수치모의 결과와 비교하였다. 수치모의 결과 이차흐름과 역방향 흐름이 크게 나타나는 수제 안쪽 및 제방과 가까운 지점에서는 수치모의 자료와 실험자료가 잘 일치하지 않는 결과를 보였으면, 이러한 지점을 제외한 다른 지점에서는 실험자료와 유사한 결과를 나타내고 있음을 확인하였다. 단일 수제에 의한 재순환영역 (recirculation zone)은 수제길이의 약 10배 지점인 것으로 나타났으며, 이는 기존의 연구결과와 유사하였다. 또한 수제 뒤편에 형성되는 와의 중심이 수면에 가까운 지점일수록 뒤로 이동하는 것을 확인하였다. 이는 Tominaga 등 (2001)의 실험결과와 유사한 것으로서 수심에 비례하여 수제 뒷부분에 형성되는 와의 크기가 커지는 것을 파악하였다.

Changes in Channel Geomorphology and Hydraulics by Submerged Spur Dikes at a Channelized Stream (정비된 하천에서 저수 수제에 의한 하도 지형과 수리 특성 변화)

  • In order to assess the hydraulic effects of flow pattern changes and geomorphological evolution around spur dikes, this study carried out monitoring and numerical simulation on the changes of morphologic characteristics around spur dikes that settled in the bend of the Yeongcheon River. The study site spanned 190 m, and spur dikes were installed in March 2008. Monitoring of the site started in May 2008 and was completed in April 2014. When the water level was higher than the height of the spur dikes, the spur dikes extrude flow from the bank. Therefore, the spur dikes that were built to stabilize the channel have been effectively performing hydraulic functions. With the passing of time, the channel was stabilized and pools formed around the spur dike toes by local scouring. It was confirmed that spur dikes created various physical characteristics in the aspect of channel topography, with sediments deposits occurring between the spur dikes, while riffles and pools formed in the channel.

An Experimental Study on Scour at V-shaped Riffle (V형 여울에서 발생하는 세굴에 관한 실험 연구)

  • A V-shaped riffle is an artificial hydraulic structure haying two wings from the streamside with a narrow opening in between. It is usually made of crushed stones or large boulders. It limits channel width and accelerates the flow through the constricted section causing a local scour just downstream. The V-shaped riffle provides with a unique aquatic habitat by forming a pool and sandbars around the pool edge, increasing local morphologic, hydraulic and sedimentological diversity. This study investigates experimentally the scour characteristics of the V-shaped riffle in the sandbed stream and proposes a predictive equation for the scour. Total 45 cases of experiments were conducted to examine the effect of hydraulic factors and configuration of V-shaped riffle on the geometry of scour holes. From the comparison of the experimental results of this study with the predictive equation of spur dike by Breusers and Raudkivi(1991), it is found that their predictive equation of spur dike underestimates the maximum scour depth downstream of the V-shaped riffle. h new predictive equation for the maximum scour depth was developed using the non-dimensional hydraulic and geometrical variables. The parameters used in the proposed equations were determined using the experimental data. The analysis reveals that the scour depth is dependent dominantly on the Froude number at the opening of the V-shaped riffle, while the angle of riffle and the opening width also affect the scour depth. The proposed equation for the scour of V-shaped riffle well agrees with the experimental data. It can be used for estimating the scour of the V-shaped riffle in sandbed streams.

The change of alternate bars with spur-dike using numerical analysis (수치모형을 이용한 수제 길이에 의한 교호사주의 변화 분석)

  • 사주의 거동은 하안침식과 하도의 변화를 일으키며, 치수적으로 많은 문제를 일으키고 있다. 수제는 저수로의 이동과 하안침식을 억제하고 저수로를 안정화시키는데 구조적 대안으로 적용되고 있으나 수제에 의한 사주의 변화 과정을 정량적으로 연구되지 않고 있으며, 명확한 설계기준을 제시하고 있지 않은 실정이다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 수심적분 2차원 수치모형인 Nays2D를 이용하여 수제에 의한 사주의 변화와 이동 특성을 분석 하였다. 수제 설치 후 사주의 이동은 일정하지 않고, 파장의 변화도 일정하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 무차원 수제의 길이가 증가함에 따라, 수제의 하류에서 사주의 형상은 변화되며, 이동 특성에 영향을 주었다. 특히, 무차원 수제의 길이가 0.6일 때에는 고정사주로 변화되는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 무차원 수제의 길이가 증가함에 따라, 사주의 파장은 증가하고, 사주의 이동속도는 감소하는 특성을 보여주고 있다.

Turbulent Flow Measurement around a Sidewall-Mounted Rectangular Block in an Open Channel

  • We investigated the three dimensional turbulent flow characteristic around a sidewall-mounted rectangular block using a laboratory flume experiment. The experiment was conducted in the flume which is 18m long and 0.9m wide, and a rectangular block that is 0.3m wide and a height of 0.4m and 0.004m thick is mounted on a sidewall of the flume. Velocity data were collected using Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter(ADV) for the flow rate conditions : $0.0528m^3/s$. The time-averaged velocity and water depth data were analyzed to examine the three-dimensional flow patterns downstream of the rectangular block.
