적외선카메라를 이용한 제동 디스크 열크랙 분석 (Hot Spot Analysis on Brake Disc Using Infrared Camera)

  • Infrared thermography using high-speed infrared camera has been recognized as a powerful method for various potential applications, such as nondestructive inspection, failure analysis, stress analysis, and medical fields, due to non-contact, high-speed, and high spatial resolution at various temperature ranges. In this investigation, damage evolution due to generation of hot spots on railway brake disc was investigated using the infrared thermography method. A high-speed infrared camera was used to measure the surface temperature of brake disc as well as for in-situ monitoring of hot spot evolution. From the thermographic images, the observed hot spots and thermal damage of railway brake disc during braking operation were qualitatively analyzed. Moreover, in this investigation, the previous experimental and theoretical studies on hot spots phenomenon were reviewed, and the current experimental results were introduced and compared with theoretical prediction.

  • Ab initio periodic Hartree-Fock calculations with the full potential and minimum basis set are applied to interpretation of scanning tunneling microscope (STM) and atomic force microscope (AFM) images on 1TVTe2. Our results show that the simulated STM image shows asymmetry while the simulated AFM image shows the circular electron densities at the bright spots without asymmetry of electron density to agree with the experimental AFM image. The bright spots of both the STM and AFM images of VTe2 are associated with the surface Te atoms, while the patterns of bright spots of STM and AFM images are different.

  • This paper presents the thermally induced hot spot characteristics of rubbing surface in the friction pad disk brake. During the braking period, the rubbing surface with irregular asperities that are strongly engaged in rough surface, wear, and deformed surface due to a friction heating may produce an irregular distorted geometry of the disk surface. The tribological interactions between the disk and the pads are unstable if the contact stress is severe, in which the irregularity develops the contact pressure distribution, leading eventually to localized contact, high temperature and formation of hot spots. The computed results of contact spots that are simulated using a coupled thermal-mechanical analysis present sinusoidal distortions and localized extrusions of the disk surface, which are strongly related to a hot spot in the practical disk brake.

탄소성접촉면의 나노스케일 열접촉저항 (Thermal contact resistance on elastoplastic nanosized contact spots)

  • The thermal contact resistance(TCR) of nanosized contact spots has been investigated through a multiscale analysis which considers the resolution of surface topography. A numerical simulation is performed on the finite element model of rough surfaces. Especially, as the contact size decreases below the phonon mean free path, the size dependent thermal conductivity is considered to calculate the TCR. In our earlier model which follows an elastic material, the TCR increases without limits as the number of nanosized contact spots increases in the process of scale variation. However, the elastoplastic contact induces a finite limit of TCR as the scale varies. The results are explained through the plastic behavior of the two contacting models. Furthermore, the effect of air conduction in nanoscale is also investigated.

인삼단백질분획에 대한 SDS-폴리 아크릴아미드 전기영동 (SDS-polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis on Partially Purified Ginseng Proteins)

  • Ginseng proteins have been extracted and partially purified by the methods of ammonium sulfate fractionation, heat inactivation and Sephadex G-75 column chromatography. The final three fractions obtained (GI, GII and GIII) were subjected to paper chromatography and SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Molecular weights of polypeptide chains from each fraction were est-mated by the standard line obtained from the plot of electrophoretic mobilities against the logarithm of molecular weights of standard proteins. Results are as follows: 1) GI showed three protein spots and four polypeptides of which M.W. were 63,000, 60,000, 56,000, 51,000 and 34,200. 2) GII showed four protein spots and five polypeptides with their M.W. of 64,600, 56,000, 45,400, 35,800, end 25,200, 3) GIII showed three protein spots and four polypeptides with their M.W. of 66,000, 63,000, 56,000 and 22,000.

  • This stability of a plate structure is very crucial problem which results in wrinkle and bucking. In this study, the effect of the pattern of spot-welding points of the two rectangular plates on the compressive and shear bucking load is studied with respect to the thickness, aspect ratio of plates and number of welding spots. Buckling coefficient of the plate not welded was compared with that of two plates with various thickness to extract the effect of thickness. The effect of number of welding spots are studied in two directions, longitudinal and transverse directions. The conclusions obtained were that the reinforcement effect was maximized when the aspect ratio was close to 1.75 at compressive load condition and that the effect of number of welding spots in transverse direction was larger than that in longitudinal direction at shearing load condition.

  • 1. Hepatic ascariasis represented by milk spots on the liver surface was found in 475(31.7%) out of 1,500 pigs. 2. For histopathological studies, 170 cases were collected at random from the milk spotted liver From these cases ascaris larva was found in 14 cases(8.2%). 3. Grossly, the occurrence of milk spots was not confined to any particular lobes of the liver. The lesions, however, were more frequently found in the diaphragmatic surface than in the visceral surface. The extent of the spots was limited to the subcapsular region and the deeper tissue was not affected. 4. Histologically, hemorrhage and eosinophilic infiltration were observed in the area invaded by the larva. The increase of connective tissue followed by a form of chronic lymphocytic hepatitis was observed at the late stage of infection. There was numerous eosinophilic infiltration around the larva trapped in the liver tissue. Consequently, encapsulation of the larva was followed by organization and calcification.

Grovesinia moricola occurring on Parthenocissus tricuspidata

  • Between August and September 2017, zonate leaf spots with severe defoliation were observed on Parthenocissus tricuspidata in Gimcheon, Korea. The initial symptoms included water-soaked, gray to grayish brown, circular or irregular-shaped leaf spots. As the disease progressed, the spots enlarged, coalesced, and became cream-colored with characteristic target-shaped rings, leading to leaf blight and premature defoliation. Based on cultural and morphological characteristics, the fungus associated with the symptoms was identified as Grovesinia moricola. The identity of this fungus was confirmed by analyzing sequences of the internal transcribed spacer region of ribosomal DNA. The pathogenicity of the isolate was demonstrated by artificial inoculation. To our knowledge, this is the first report of G. moricola occurring on P. tricuspidata globally as well as in Korea.

Innovative Spatial Analysis of Violent Crime Hot Spots in Korea: Implications for Urban Policy

  • Empirical applications to explain criminogenic events are abundant. While much of the research in criminal studies concentrates on understanding the motivations of offenders and preventing victimization from a micro perspective, there have been recent theoretical advancements that give priority to the role of spatial factors in directly impacting crime rates. The primary purpose of this study is to investigate the empirical inference between violent crime incidence and spatial characteristics of local areas focusing particularly on spatial accessibility conditions in the areas. Applying discrete spatial econometrics models, this study reveals a significant relationship between spatial accessibility and the formation of violent crime hot spots in South Korea. Along with other variables, it is revealed that road accessibility has a clear association with violent crime hot spots. Based on the findings, this study suggests some policy implications such as effective surveillance systems, land use restrictions, and advanced street lighting.
