하이드로포밍용 열연 강재의 레이저 용접성 및 성형 특성 (Laser Weldability and Formability of Hot Rolled Steels for Hydroforming Applications)

  • The laser welding and its analysis of thin-sheet carbon steels were carried out with high power $CO_{2}$ laser. The main factor of weld quality of laser welding is gap and edge quality. This work was preformed to focus on the gap tolerance problem during laser welding. First, bead on plate welding of thin sheet was examined to investigate the effect of laser welding variables, and to obtain optimum welding condition. Butt welding was also carried out to show the effect of gap on the laser weldability of thin sheet. In order to investigate the effect of gap on formability of welded thin sheet, LDH test was caried out. At high welding speed, the partial penetration was obtained by low heat input. Otherwise, porosity was formed in the bead at low weld speed because of too much heat input. The optimum welding condition of welding was derived from bead width, penetration and hardness property. The maximum gap tolerance on laser welding was observed to be about 0.2mm. This gap size has good relationship with beam size of laser spot(about 0.3mm). The formability of welded sheet was about $80{\%}$ value of base metal and the gap size has not affected on the formability, although weld quality is dependent on the gap size.

구조응력기반 마스터 피로 선도를 이용한 하중 비전달형 십자 필렛 용접조인트의 피로예측 (Fatigue Life Prediction of Non-Load-Carrying Cruciform Welded Joint using Master S-N Curve based on Structural Stress Approach)

  • Welding process is of importance to assemble products or structures, but also the process is structural weakness due to stress concentration in welding joint. The fatigue design of welded joint requires time & labor consuming fatigue test because the fatigue life is various according to the depth of joint, joint type and load type etc. In fatigue design codes, they guide to classify welding joints with their shape( BS7608, IIW Documents) and provide fatigue assessment information. In terms of numerical method for fatigue analysis, it is also difficult to decide the stress peak in joint because of mesh sensitivity which means that stress value is varies with element type or size on stress concentration zone. Hot-spot method is used generally, but Battelle of United States proposed Master S-N Curve based on structural stresses converted by mechanical equilibrium theory. In this research, we extracted master S-N curve from Battelle's fatigue test DB including test data of various welding joints to apply on Non-Load-Carrying cruciform Joint. Comparing fatigue results between the case of using normal stress and case of structural stress cor the cruciform Joint, The suggested Battelle method showed successive results.

I형 맞대기 용접선 추적용 시각센서 시스템에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Vision Sensor System for Tracking the I-Butt Weld Joints)

  • In this study, a visual sensor system for weld seam tracking the I-butt weld joints in GMA welding was constructed. The sensor system consists of a CCD camera, a diode laser with a cylindrical lens and a band-pass-filter to overcome the degrading of image due to spatters and arc light. In order to obtain the enhanced image, quantitative relationship between laser intensity and iris number was investigated. Throughout the repeated experiments, the shutter speed was set at 1-milisecond for minimizing the effect of spatters on the image, and therefore most of the spatter trace in the image have been found to be reduced. Region of interest was defined from the entire image and gray level of searched laser line was compared to that of weld line. The differences between these gray levels lead to spot the position of weld joint using central difference method. The results showed that, as long as weld line was within $^\pm$15$^\circ$from the longitudinal straight fine, the system constructed in this study could track the weld line successful1y. Since the processing time reduced to 0.05 sec, it is expected that the developed method could be adopted to high speed welding such as laser welding.

용접작업 형태별 공기중 용접흄 농도와 금속 성분에 관한 조사연구 (Airborne Concentrations of Welding Fume and Metal Components by Type of Welding)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate worker exposure to welding fume in automobile body shop and to evaluate metal components by type of welding. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Average concentrations of total welding fume without and with ventilation were $5.2mg/m^3$ and $2.49mg/m^3$, respectively. Thus, the average reduction rate of total fume by ventilation was 52.1 %. 2. The highest fume concentration was indicated at shielded arc welding, followed by $CO_2$ gas welding, argon arc welding, and spot welding in order of decreasing concentration. 3. Average respirable fume concentrations without and with ventilation were $2.97mg/m^3$ and $1.64mg/m^3$, respectively. 4. Further analysis of welding fume indicated that total fume consisted of $Fe_2O_3$, ZnO, Mn, Pb, and CuO, in order of decreasing amount. Combined effect of metals was below the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH)Threshold Limit Values (TLVs).

  • Fatigue assessment of welded structure is very sensitive to the method of local stress determination. Normally, hot spot stress which is surface stress extracted from 0.5t, 1.5t away from weld toe is widely used to obtain local stress. However, this method has a lot of limitation in the evaluation of fatigue strength. Therefore, mesh has to comply with strict requirements since stress extracted from this method strongly rely on mesh size and element types. And that method does not cover the stress gradient through thickness direction since only surface stress is considered. Recently, new method to obtain local stress is proposed, which is structural stress. This method has an advantage, which is mesh intransitiveness and covering the effect of both bending and axial stress in local area. In this paper, fatigue test data for various welded joints was analyzed to review the reliability of structural stress. As a result, it is verified that S-N curve using structural stress guaranteed single master curve for various joint type and testing condition.

  • Nowadays, the weight lightening of automotive is required as conserving the environment has become a major worldwide issue. To solve this issue, various researches for the use of light materials(Alalloy, Mgalloy)and ultra high strength steel as substitutes of the current structural material have been carried out. Application of laser stitch welding to the assembly of automotive produces improvement in strength, lightening of body, higher fuel efficiency, lower production cost as well as reduction in assemble line due to its fast welding speed, superior accessible and weld quality. This process overcomes the shortcomings of the current resistance spot welding such as high electricity consumption, electrode replacement, and economical, technical limitation in design and production method of automotives.

선체 용접부의 균열진전 및 피로수명 예측에 관한 연구(I) (A Study of Crack Propagation and Fatigue Life Prediction on Welded Joints of Ship Structure(I))

  • The fatigue life of ship structure under cyclic loading condition is made up of initiation and propagation stages. In this study, crack growth test is carried out on large scale structure test specimens and fracture mechanical analysis is performed. The fatigue lives measured from fatigue tests are compared with DNV, Matsuoka and BS 5400 S-N curve. And to predict the crack initiation life, S-N curve, corresponding to crack length 20mm at welded joint, is developed based on hot spot stress range. Also crack propagation life is calculated using crack growth equation. Consequently, computed crack propagation life is compared with experiment results.

하이브리드 방식 (CNC+Laser)을 이용한 폴리머용접공정 (Hybrid (CNC+Laser) Process for Polymer Welding)

  • Polycarbonate (PC) and Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) were welded by a combination of a diode laser and a CNC machining center. Laser beam delivered through the transparent PC and was absorbed in an opaque ABS. Polymers were melted and joined by absorbed and conducted heat. Experiments were carried out by varying working distance from 44mm to 50mm for the focus spot diameter control, laser input power from 10W to 25W, and scanning speed from 100 to 400mm/min. The weld bead and cross-section were analyzed for weld quality, and tensile results were presented through the joint force measurement. With focus distance at 48mm, laser power with 20W, and welding speed at 300mm/min, experimental results showed the best welding quality which bead size was measured to be 3.75mm. The shear strength at the given condition was $22.8N/mm^2$. Considering tensile strength of ABS is $43N/mm^2$, shear strength was sufficient to hold two materials. A single process was possible in a CNC machining system, surface processing, hole machining and welding. As a result, the process cycle time was reduced to 25%. Compared to a typical process, specimens were fabricated in a single process, with high precision.

  • 콘크리트 충전강관을 이용한 교량은 새로운 형식의 교량 형태이다. 강관을 이용한 교량을 적용하는데 있어서 가장 중요한 것은 이음부의 설계이다. 이 논문에서는 축하중을 받는 충전강관 N형 이음부에서 현재는 충전강관으로 브레이스는 강관으로 구성된 이음부의 특성을 범용 프로그램인 ABAQUS를 이용하여 유한요소해석을 통해 고찰하였다. 충전강관 이음부의 핫스폿 응력을 결정하는 기하학적 인자 중, 용접 각장길이, 현재의 직경, 브레이스의 두께에 따른 핫스폿 응력의 차이점을 비교하였다. 또한 충전강관 N형 이음부에서 사재의 각도와 수직재와 사재사이의 거리를 변수로 하여 유한요소해석을 수행하였으며, 현재에 충전된 콘크리트의 강도의 변화에 따른 이음부의 핫스폿 응력 특성을 살펴보았다.

마스크 히스토그램 평준화를 이용한 T형 용접너트 자동 선별시스템의 비전검사기 성능개선에 관한 연구 (A Study on Improvement of Vision Inspector for T Type Welding nut auto Sorting System using a Masked Histogram Equalization)

  • 본 논문에서는 트림 T형 용접너트의 생산 시스템 중 불량품을 자동으로 선별할 수 있는 자동 비전 선별기의 성능 개선에 관한 방법을 제안한다. 자동 비전 선별기는 용접너트의 영상 신호에 대해 히스토그램을 활용한 경계 판별 및 나사산 검출, 이진 모폴로지 연산(Binary morphology operation)을 활용한 얼룩 검출 등의 기법을 활용한 것이다. 이 비전 선별기 운영에 있어 주된 문제는 컨베이어 벨트 상의 오일 등에 의한 오염에 따른 획득 영상의 화질 저하에 따른 오동작이다. 이를 해결하기 위해 배경 영상과 너트 영상의 구분을 위한 마스킹 기법을 사용하여, 너트 영상 부분에만 히스토그램 평준화를 이용하여 너트 영상부분의 대비를 높이는 전처리 과정을 도입하였다. 이를 통해 배경 부분에서 장비의 오염에 의해 추출되는 특징들의 영향을 없애고 획득 영상의 화질 저하에도 불구하고 오동작의 비율을 10 % 에서 0.2 % 로 낮출 수 있었다.
