An Introduction to the Power Sources for Resistance Spot Welding (Spot 용접 전원장치)

  • Spot 용접의 역사는 1877년에 E. Thomson이 발명한 것이지만 1886년 처음으로 저항 용접기의 특허를 취득할 때까지는 거의 실용화 되지 못하였다. 그 후 Thomson의 전기 용접기 회사가 저항 용접의 특허를 거의 독점한 관계로 커다란 발전없이 spot 용접에 관한 특허 분쟁이 해소된 1920년 이후 보급되기 시작하여 1935년경 부터 증가 하였다. 초기에는 주로 맞대기 용접에 이용되고 전선의 접합이나 크게는 rail의 용접 에까지 이르렀다. 금세기에 들어와서부터 spot 용접이나 seam 용접이 실용화되고 관련 용접 장치도 개발되었다. Spot 용접은 자동차 공업과 더불어 크게 발전하였으며 오늘 날에는 spot 용접 생산의 약 2/3를 자동차 공업이 점유하고 있다. Spot 용접은 고온 압접의 일종으로 각종 압접 방법중에서 가장 많이 사용되고 있는 것이다. 접합하고저 하는 부분에 직접 고전류를 통하고 그 전류에 의한 저항 발열로 용접부의 온도를 상승 시켜 용접하는 것으로서 극히 짧은 시간에 용접이 가능하고 고속, 고능률이므로 특히 다량 생산에 적합하다.

  • 온실가스와 같은 환경오염으로 인한 규제로 인해 경량화 소재인 알루미늄의 차체 적용이 늘어가는 추세이다. 하지만 알루미늄의 낮은 용접성으로 인하여 기계적 접합법 등이 알루미늄의 접합에 사용되고 있으나 낮은 접합강도 등의 문제가 발생하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 스폿용접 시뮬레이션 프로그램인 SORPAS를 이용하여 건전한 용접부를 얻을 수 있는 알루미늄 합금 용접 조건을 도출하였고 실제 델타스폿 용접기를 이용하여 도출된 실험 결과와 비교 분석하였다. 이를 위하여 전극의 형태에 따른 용접성의 변화를 분석하였고, 전류 및 가압력 프로파일에 따른 용접성의 특징을 관찰하였다. 그리고 각각의 용접 변수들의 변화에 따른 용접 특성 평가 실험을 통하여 각 변수들의 특성을 파악하였고, 용접강도가 높고 용접부에 결함이 존재하지 않는 용접성을 가진 변수조건을 구하였다. 최종적으로 변수 특성 평가 실험의 결과를 바탕으로 Al 6032와 Al 5454에 대하여 넓은 적정용접 영역을 가진 로브 곡선을 도출하였다. 본 연구는 2009년도 서울시 산학연 협력사업(과제번호 10848) 및 BK21의 연구비 지원을 받아 수행 하였음.

A Study on the Spot Weldability of Sn-37%Pb Coated Cu-sheet (Sn-37%Pb solder를 도금한 Cu 박판의 점 용접성에 관한 연구)

  • Copper has been widely used for the electronic parts, and especially spot welded one for the leads of condenser or resistor. However, copper is generally hard to be spot welded because of its low electrical resistivity. For this experiment, Sn-37%Pb solder which has relatively higher resistivity was coated on the Cu-sheet to improve the spot weldability of copper. As the experimental variables welding pressure was varied from 100 to 200kgf, welding time from 20 to 50ms, and welding current from 100 to 2500A. Experimental results showed that the solder coated Cu-sheet can be spot welded under the conditions of 400~2200A welding current, 100~200kgf pressure and 20-50ms welding time. The tensile shear strength of the spot welded joint increased with welding current up to the critical current, and after the critical value decreased with current.

  • Resistance spot welding is commonly used for welding products of high quality because of clean welding and short w welding-time. But. conventional spot welders bring about the depreciation of welding products, iuespective of dynamic r resistance characteristics during welding time. This paper discussed dynamic resistance database implementation in t terms of welding performance improvement. On different welding conditions, we compared dynamic resistance, r respectively, about pure iron and Sn-Pb alloy on Copper. Also, it investigated the relation of tensile shear strength and d dynamic resistance in welded workpiece.

  • In order to obtain the basic informations for the development of high strength and high weldability aluminum alloy sheets, the experimental study was carried out to evaluate resistance spot welding characteristics and welding parameters (welding current, welding time, electrode force) far the aluminum alloy sheets. The mechanical properties of spot weld of aluminum alloy were evaluated by tensile shear test and by peel test at room temperature and also the welding possible zone was established through variation of current electrode force and welding time.

  • The welding residual stress should be considered in fatigue stress analysis because it develope during the process of the electric resistance spot welding and it causes bad affect on the fatigue crack initiation and growth at nugget edge of spot welded points. Therefore the accurate estimation of residual stress is crucial. In this study, nonlinear finite element analysis on welding residual stress generated during the process of the spot welding was conducted, and their results were compared with the experimental data measured by X-ray diffraction method. From the results, it was found that welding residual stress existed as tension in the nugget center and as compression around the nugget edge.

  • Spot welding has been used in the sheet metal joining processes because of its high productivity and convenience. In this study, predicting methods of fatigue life of spot welded joint have been studied fatigue life of conch-peel spot welded joint was influenced by tail effect. Fatigue life was estimated by stress index parameter considering multiaxial stresses and tail effect. Fatigue tests were conducted with the coach-peel specimens using SPCC.

  • Spot welding is the primary method of joining sheet metals in the automotive industry. As automobiles are subjected to fatigue loading, some spot welds may fracture before the whole system has failed. This local fracture of spot welds may lead to change in the dynamic response and consequently affect fatigue behavior of an automobile. Therefore, this change in dynamic response should be taken into consideration to assess the fatigue life of structures subjected to spectrum loading, such as automobiles. In this study, vibration fatigue analysis was performed by taking into consideration the change in the dynamic response due to accumulated damage at spot-welded parts. Fatigue tests were carried out on tensile-shear spot-welded specimens under constant amplitude loading condition. And the fatigue life of spot welds under spectrum loading was predicted using vibration fatigue analysis method based on finite element analysis.

  • A new method of on-line monitoring of spot weld quality is proposed by analysing weld votage signal. Weld voltage signal has been modeled by autoregressive model which is suitable for on-line modeling scheme, and order of the model is determined by F-test. From the chosen model, strength. Upon experimental results, it has been shown that fundamental frequency dispersion of weld voltage can be used as a good parameter like maximum thermal expansion in on-line monitoring of spot weld quality. Microcomputer implementation of the proposed monitoring method is also developed and presented.

  • Spot-welding is a widely used manufacturing method for thin-sheet components, especially in mass-production industries such as the car industry. Automobiles are often constructed by multi-lap spot welding to secure the passenger from the accident, where optimisation of the welding conditions is a major economic consideration. This research is conducted to investigate weldability characteristics with various welding conditions on the 4-lap spot welded joint of structural steel sheets in automobile. The relationship between the tensile-shear strength and the indentation depth has been investigated to propose the optimum welding conditions. The welding current and the welding time have a greater effect on the welding characteristics than the electrode force. It was found that the electrode force has a relatively close relationship with the expulsion occurrence. The design curves for optimum welding are proposed for the 4-lap spot welded joint.
