Tests of hydraulic rock splitting were conducted using double packer at the 1, 2 free surface in the limestone mining and granodiorite Suksan area, respectively. The method of hydraulic rock splitting was applying hydraulic power in the interval layer using double packer. As a result of tests, a crack occurred. At about 6.5 MPa and 13 MPa, a crack occurred in 2 free surface. Any crack did not occur in the 1 free surface. Rather, used 1 double packer was broken in the 1 free surface. Also, it was confirmed that the water pressure of the interval increased through the existing crack and the new crack in the test areas.

When the energy performance of concrete is substantially higher than that of normal type concrete, such concrete is regarded as energy efficient concrete (WBSCSD 2009). An experimental study was conducted to investigate mechanical properties of energy efficient concrete with binary, ternary and quaternary admixture at different curing ages. Slump test for workability and air content test were performed on fresh concretes. Compressive strength, splitting tensile strength were made on hardened concrete specimens. The mechanical properties of concrete were compared with predicted values by ACI 363R-84 Code, NZS 3101-95 Code, CSA A23.3-94 Code, CEB-FIP Model, EN 1991, EC 2-02, AIJ Code, JSCE Code, and KCI Code. The use of silica fume increased the compressive strengths, splitting tensile strengths, modulus of elasticities and Poisson's ratios. On the other hand, the compressive strength and splitting tensile strength decreased with increasing fly ash.

In order to investigation splitting bond strength of the deformed longitudinal reinforcing bars in the R C members strengthened laterally with the external steel-band, a total 9 sets of test re-bars with and without active confining force given by the external steel-band are pulled monotonically until failure. Test results indicate that the bond strength becomes higher with the increase in number of steel-band sets and their initial stress magnitude. This is due to the active confining force given by the steel-band, and passive confining forces given by the steel-band and transverse reinforcements, in which the passive confinement effect varies depending on the magnitude of active confining force. An equation to estimate the splitting bond strengths for the R C members strengthened laterally with the external steel-band is developed based on the several experimental results of the present study.
One of the main disadvantages of Ultra High Performance Concrete exists in the large suggested value of UHPC ingredients. The purpose of this study was to find the models mechanical properties which included a 7, 14 and 28-day compressive strength test, a 28-day splitting tensile and modulus of rupture test for Ultra High Performance Concrete, as well as, a study on the interaction and correlation of five variables that includes silica fume amount (SF), cement 42.5 amount, steel fiber amount, superplasticizer amount (SP), and w/c mechanical properties of UHPC. The response surface methodology was analyzed between the variables and responses. The relationships and mathematical models in terms of coded variables were established by ANOVA. The validity of models were checked by experimental values. The offered models are valid for mixes with the fraction proportion of fine aggregate as; 0.70-1.30 cement amount, 0.15-0.30 silica fume, 0.04-0.08 superplasticizer, 0.10-0.20 steel fiber, and 0.18-0.32 water binder ratio.
This paper presents experimental and analytical results of glass fiber-reinforced concrete (GFRC) and polypropylene fiber-reinforced concrete (PERC) to investigate the relationship between tensile strength and compressive strength based on the split cylinder test (ASTM C496) and compressive strength test (ASTM C39). Experimental studies were performed on cylinder specimens having 150 mm in diameter an 300 mm in height with two different fiber contents (1.0 and 1.5% by volume fraction) at ages of 7, 28 and 90 days. A total of 90 cylinder specimens were tested including specimens made of the plain concrete. The experimental data have been used to obtain the relationship between tensile strength and compressive strength. A representative equation is proposed for the relationship between tensile strength and compressive strength of fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC) including glass and polypropylene fibers. There is a good agreement between the average experimental results and those calculated values from the proposed equation.
A simple expression to predict bond strength of reinforcing bars with rib deformation to the surrounding is derived for the case of splitting bond failure. Finite element analysis is used to model the confining behavior of concrete cover. The roles of the interfacial properties, specifically, the friction coefficient, cohesion, the relative rib area and the rib face angle are examined. Values of bond strength obtained using the analytical model are in good agreement with the bond test results from the previous studies. The analytical model provides insight into interfacial bond mechanisms and the effects of the key variables on the bond strength of deformed bars to concrete. Based on the comparison between the analytical results and the test results, the values of cohesion, coefficient of friction, and the effective rib face angle are proposed.

Bond between reinforcing bar and surrounding concrete is supposed to transfer load safely in the process of design of reinforced concrete structures. Bond failure of reinforcing bar generally take place by splitting of the concrete cover as bond force between concrete and reinforcing bars exceeds the confinement of the concrete cover and reinforcement. However, the confinement force has a limitation. Thus, the only variable is the bearing angle corresponding to the change of bond force. Higher rib height bars possessing higher shearing resistance can maintain higher bearing angle and higher splitting resistance when bars are highly confined, and consequently higher bond strength, than lower rib higher bars. In this study, from the evaluate bond strength of high Relative Rib Area Bars Using beam-end test specimens are compared with the current provisions for development of reinforcement, and the improved design method of bond strength is proposed.

Recently, self-healing methods of a cracked matrix, especially polymeric composite materials, became the center of engineering researchers. In this paper, we summarized the self-healing concept for polymeric composite materials and investigated the effect of microparticle on the crack growth behavior in colorless and transparent matrix by experimental observation to describe the crack propagation around the microparticle inside epoxy matrix composite. Compression splitting test for the specimen involving microparticle was conducted. In addition, FE analysis was pursued to present the stress contour around microparticle in the matrix. Through the experiments and FE analysis, we found that the size. relative position, bonding condition and relative stiffness of microparticle are important parameters to decide the direction of crack propagation, which is related to the rupture of microparticle for self-healing
To place concrete overlays has become a standard application in the strengthening and rehabilitation of concrete structures such as bridges, tunnels, parking decks and industrial buildings. In general, connectors are used to ensure a monolithic behavior of the two concrete layers. Within the framework of the development of a new connector wedge splitting tests and shear tests were performed, in addition nonlinear finite element analyses were applied to investigate the load transfer behavior of the connectors for different prototypes. The numerical simulation results were compared to experimental data. The computed load-displacement curve demonstrates good correspondence with the curves obtained in the experiments, and the experimental crack patterns are reasonably simulated by the computed crack propagation. Both numerical and experimental investigations on the wedge splitting test and on the shear test served as basis for the development of new type of connectors.
Contaminant transport in groundwater induces major threat and harmful effect on the environment; hence, the fate of the contaminant migration in groundwater is seeking a lot of attention. In this paper a two dimensional numerical flow and transport model through saturated layered soil is developed. Groundwater flow and solute transport has been simulated numerically using proposed model. The model implements the finite volume time splitting method to discretize the main equations. The performance, accuracy and efficiency of the out coming numerical models have been successfully examined by two test cases. The verification test cases consist of two-dimensional, groundwater flow and solute transport. The final purpose of this paper is to discuss and compare the shape of contaminant plume in homogeneous and heterogeneous media with different soil properties and control of solute transport using a zone for minimizing the potential of groundwater contamination; furthermore, this model leads to select the effective and optimum remedial strategies for cleaning the contaminated aquifers.
