Small-molecule organic photovoltaic cells have recently attracted growing attention due to their potential for the low-cost fabrication of flexible and lightweight solar modules. The PVP/Ag nanoparticles were synthesized by the reaction of poly vinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and silver nitrate at $150^{\circ}C$. In the reaction, the size of the nanoparticles was controlled by relative mole fractions between PVP and Ag. The PVP/Ag nanoparticles with various sizes were then spin coated on the patterned ITO glass prior to the deposition of the PEDOT:PSS hole transport layer. The scattering of the incident light caused by these incorporated nanoparticles resulted in an increase in the path length of the light through the active layer and hence the enhancement of the light absorption. This scattering effect increased as the size of the nanoparticles increased, but it was offset by the decrease in total transmittance caused by the non-transparent nanoparticles. As a result, the maximum power conversion efficiency, 0.96% which was the value enhanced by 14% compared to the cell without incorporation of nanoparticles, was obtained when the mole fraction of PVP:Ag was 24:1 and the size of the nanoparticles was 20~40 nm.
The onset of instability induced by impulsive spin-down of the rigid-body flow placed in the gap between two coaxial cylinders is analyzed by using the energy method. In the present stability analysis the growth rate of the kinetic energy of the base state and also that of disturbances are taken into consideration. In the present system the primary flow is a transient, laminar one. But for the Reynolds number equal or larger than a certain one, i.e. $Re{\geq}Re_G$ secondary motion sets in, starting at a certain time. For $Re{\geq}Re_G$ the dimensionless critical time to mark the onset of vortex instabilities, ${\tau}_c$, is here presented as a function of the Reynolds number Re and the radius ratio ${\eta}$. For the wide gap case of small ${\eta}$, the transient instability is possible in the range of $Re_G{\leq}Re{\leq}Re_S$. It is found that the predicted ${\tau}_c$-value is much smaller than experimental detection time of first observable secondary motion. It seems evident that small disturbances initiated at ${\tau}_c$ require some growth period until they are detected experimentally.

We have successfully demonstrated a bandgap alteration of transparent zinc oxide (ZnO) thin film with Mg dopant by using sol-gel spin coating technique. By increasing the dopant from 0 to 30 atomic percent (at.%), a decrement value in the cutoff is observed, where the absorption edge shifts continuously to the shorter wavelength side, towards 300 nm. This resulted in a significant bandgap increment from 3.28 to 3.57 eV. However, the transmittance of the thin film at 350-800 nm gradually downgraded, from 93 to 80 % which is most probably due to the grain size that becomes bigger, and it also affected the electrical properties. The decrement from 45 to 0.05 mA at +10 V was observed in the I-V characteristics, concluding the significant relationship; where higher optical bandgap materials will exhibit lower conductivity. These findings may be useful in optoelectronics devices.
Hafnium Oxide (HfOx) has been attracted as a promising gate dielectric for replacing SiO2 in gate stack applications. In this paper, Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (MOS) capacitor with solution processed HfO2 high-k material as a dielectric were fabricated. The solvent using $HfOCl2{\cdot}8H2O$ dissolve in 2-Methoxy ethanol was prepared at 0.3M. The HfOx layers were deposited on p-type silicon substrate by spin-coating at $250^{\circ}C$ for 5 minutes on a hot plate and repeated the same cycle for 5 times, followed by annealing process at 350, 450 and $550^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours. When the annealing temperature was increased from 350 to $550^{\circ}C$, capacitance value was increased from 337 to 367 pF. That was resulted from the higher temperature of HfOx which have more crystallization phase, therefore dielectric constant (k) was increased from 11 to 12. It leads to the formation of dense HfOx film and improve the ability of the insulator layer. We confirm that HfOx layer have a good performance for dielectric layer in MOS capacitors.
The objective of the current study was to evaluate the inhibitory and antioxidant activities of powdered katsuobushi (dried bonito) protein hydrolysates and their corresponding fractions. The powdered katsuobushi (dried bonito) hydrolysates were obtained by enzymatic hydrolysis using Alcalase, ${\alpha}$-chymotrypsin, Neutrase, pepsin, papain, and trypsin. The antioxidant efficacy of the respective hydrolysates were evaluated using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), hydroxyl, superoxide, and alkyl radical-scavenging activities. Among the hydrolysates, the peptic-derived hydrolysate exhibited the highest antioxidant activity compared to other enzymatic hydrolysates. Therefore, the peptic-derived hydrolysate was further analyzed, and was found to contain an active peptide with an amino acid sequence identified as Pro-Met-Pro-Leu-Asn-Ser-Cys (756 Da). The purified peptides from powdered katsuobushi (dried bonito) had an $EC_{50}$ value of $105.82{\mu}M$, and exhibited an inhibitory effect against DNA oxidation induced by hydroxyl radicals. Taken together, these results suggests that powdered katsuobushi (dried bonito) could be used as a natural antioxidant in functional foods and prevent oxidation reactions in food processing.
In the surface pressure-area isotherms of mixed monolayers, mixtures containing as much as 30 mol% of AA form stable condensed monolayer while the monolayer without AA is in the expanded state because PVK take on 3D collapsed. All of the mixed monolayers with 0, 10, 20 and 30 mol% of AA could be readily transferred onto ITO substrate at 16, 17, 24 and 26 mN/m, respectively. The monolayer containing 30 mol% of AA, however, showed a roughness value of 28A and became homogeneous decreasing with the phase separation. We fabricated organic EL device of ITO/CuPc/MEL/BBOT/iLiF/Al using mixed monolayer of 13, 19 and 25 layer deposited by LB method as a emitting layer. In the voltage-current characteristics of EL device, current density was much smaller than that of the spin-coated devices. It may due to the large contact resistance existed at the interface of LB layer/organic layer inhibit carrier injection to the emitting layer. EL spectra of device showed peaks at 450. 470, 505, 555 and 650 nm and the white light emission indicate the CIE coordinate x=0.306, y=0.353.
Recently, there is a growing concern on the photovoltaic effects using organic materials. This is a phenomena which converts the solar energy into the electrical one. We have fabricated a device structure of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/CuPc/$C_{60}$/BCP/Al. The PEDOT:PSS layer is made by spin coating. and the other organic layers are made by thermal vapor deposition. By measuring the current-voltage characteristics with an illumination of light. we have obtained a value of $V_{oc}$=0.358V and $J_{sc}$=0.338mA/$cm^2$. A fill factor and efficiency are about 0.271 and 0.033%, respectively. A 500W xenon lamp(ORIEL) was used for a light source, and the light intensity illuminated into the device was about 10mW.

Nanostructured pure a-C and nitrogen doped a-C: N thin films with small particle size of, ~50 nm were obtained by Aerosol-assisted CVD method from the natural precursor camphor oil. Five samples were prepared for the a-C and a-C: N respectively, with the deposition temperatures ranging from $400^{\circ}C$ to $600^{\circ}C$. At high temperature, the AFM clarifies an even smoother image, due to the increase of the energetic carbon ion bombardment at the surface of the thin film. An ohmic contact was acquired from the current-voltage solar simulator characterization. The higher conductivity of a-C: N, of ${\sim}{\times}10^{-2}Scm^{-1}$ is due to the decrease in defects since the spin density gap decrease with the nitrogen addition. Pure a-C exhibit absorption coefficient, ${\alpha}$ of $10^4cm^{-1}$, whereas for a-C:N, ${\alpha}$ is of $10^5cm^{-1}$. The high ${\sigma}$ value of a-C:N is due to the presence of more graphitic component ($sp^2$ carbon bonding) in the carbon films.
Nanoparticles of $Fe_2O_3$ with a mean particle size of 4-30 nm have been prepared by a pulsed wire evaporation method, and its structural and magnetic properties were studied by SQUID magnetometer and Mossbauer spectroscopy. From the main peak intensity of XRD and absorption rate of Mossbauer spectrum, the amounts of $\gamma-Fe_2O_3$ and $\alpha-Fe_2O_3$ in as-prepared sample are about 70% and 30%, respectively. The coercivity (53 Oe) and the saturation magnetization (14 emu/g) are about 20% of those of the bulk $\gamma-Fe_2O_3$. The low value of coercivity and saturation magnetization indicate that the $\gamma-Fe_2O_3$ phase nearly shows the spin glass-like behavior. Analysis of the set of Mossbauer spectrum indicates a distribution of magnetic hyperfine fields due to the particle size distribution yielding 20 nm of average particle size. The magnetic hyperfine parameters are consistent with values reported of bulk $\gamma-Fe_2O_3$ and $alpha-Fe_2O_3$. A quadrupole line on the center of spectrum represents of superparamagnetic phase of $\gamma-Fe_2O_3$ with a mean particle size of 7 nm or below.

From extensive measurements of the resistance and the dynamic resistance as functions of magnetic field and temperature, we find that the transport in the insulating state beyond the superconductor-insulator (S-I) transition is dominated by bosons(Cooper pairs and/or vortices) and cannot be described by the theory of the fermionic insulating phase. The maximum of the magnetoresistance at B = B$_m$ and the following negative slope in R(B) with increasing field can be explained by the crossover from the "Bose-glass" to the "Fermi-glass" phase as suggested by Paalanen, Hebard, and Ruel. The zero bias peak in dv/dl for biases below the characteristic voltage V$_c$ (or current $I_c$), gives a clue for the assumption of the "dirty boson" model which states that the insulating state above the critical magnetic field is the phase where Cooper pairs are localized due to the Coulomb blockade with a nonvanishing order parameter. The shift to a lower value of the critical magnetic field by overlaying thin Au layer, which is known as a strong spin-orbit scatterer, also supports the bosonic nature of the S-I transition.
