A survey on the Minimum Time Scale by Southern Region of the Korean Peninsula for Daily SPI Application (일 단위 SPI 적용을 위한 한반도 남부지역별 최소 시간 척도 조사)

  • 표준강수지수(Standardized Precipitation Index, SPI)는 강수량 변동의 정도를 표준화하여 나타낸 지수로, 가뭄 평가에 적용되고 있다. 일반적으로 SPI를 산정할 때는 월 단위의 시간 척도를 적용하며, 장기간의 가뭄에 대해 평가한다. 그러나 시간 척도가 길어질수록 가뭄 발생 후 가뭄을 감지하는 데 걸리는 시간이 더 길어지기 때문에 대처가 더욱 어려워진다. 또한, 기후변화로 인해 가뭄 빈도가 증가하고, 그 정도가 더욱 심화되면서 일 단위의 적용이 필요해지고 있다. 본 연구는 한반도 남부지역을 대상으로 일 단위의 SPI 적용을 위한 최소 시간 척도를 조사하였다. 대상 지역을 강원권, 수도권, 부울경, 대경권, 호남권, 충청권의 총 6개 지역으로 분리하여, 각 지역별, 계절별 최소 시간 척도를 조사하였다. SPI 산정을 위해 후보 분포형으로 Gumbel, Gamma, GEV, Loglogistic, Lognormal, Weibull을 적용하였으며, 시간 척도는 5일부터 365일까지 총 10개로 설정하였다. 본 연구에선 크게 적합도 검정과 정규성 검정으로 진행하였다. 적합도 검정에서는 Chi-square test를 적용하였으며, 이때 일 단위의 짧은 시간 척도를 적용할 경우 누가 강수 시계열의 값이 0으로, 0값이 시계열에 포함되면 SPI의 정확도가 떨어지는 문제가 발생하는데, 이를 보완하기 위해 누가 강수 시계열의 0값을 고려하였다. 마지막으로 각 후보 분포형을 적용하여 산정된 SPI가 표준정규분포에 합당한지를 검증하기 위해 Anderson-Darling test를 수행하였다. 결과적으로 대부분의 지역에서는 봄과 여름의 경우 최소 15일 정도의 시간 척도까지는 적용할 수 있을 것으로 판단되며, 겨울의 경우는 최소 30일 정도의 시간 척도를 적용해야 함을 확인하였다. 지역별로 차이가 크진 않지만, 이러한 연구 결과를 참고하여 각 지역별로 더 나은 가뭄 대책을 마련할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Influence of sugar alcohol and enzyme treatment on the quality characteristics of soy ice cream (당알콜과 효소의 종류가 대두아이스크림의 품질특성에 미치는 영향)

  • The effects of bromelain and $\alpha$-chymotrypsin treatments on the functional properties(foaming capacity, foaming stability, emulsifying capacity, and emulsifying stability) of soy protein isolate(SPI) and the addition of various sweeteners(sucrose, sorbitol, xylitol) on the quality attributes(viscosity, overrun ratio, melt-down property, and sensory characteristic) of soy ice cream were studied. SPI was more effectively hydrolyzed with $\alpha$-chymotrypsin than bromelain, resulting in a better foaming and emulsifying capacity. Adding xylitol could significantly improve the viscosity, overrun and melt-down property of soy ice creams while the effect was the lowest in the sucrose addition. Bromelain treatment caused a lower apparent viscosity of SPI suspension compared with $\alpha$-chymotrypsin treatment and untreated. The overrun ratios of the soy ice cream prepared with bromelain and $\alpha$-chymotrypsin treated SPI were 18.9∼25.9% and 24.9∼40.3%, respectively as a result of freezing with agitation for 20 min in an ice cream maker. Comparatively, untreated SPI could bring only 15.8∼21.4% overrun ratios after operating for 15 min. The bromelain treatment caused high melt-down tendency of the product while soy ice cream with untreated SPI showed an opposite trend. In sensory characteristics, no significant differences in the strength of beany flavor were noted among the samples. Sweetness, bitter taste, icy feel, and mouthfeel of the product were greatly affected by the enzyme-treatment of SPI. Soy ice cream added with xylitol after $\alpha$-chymotrypsin treatment was the most acceptable among all samples.

  • This paper proposes a CRC error verification method for SPI and I2C buses of automotive semiconductors. In automotive semiconductors, when an error occurs in communication and an incorrect value is transmitted, fatal results may occur. Unlike LIN communication and CAN communication, in communication such as SPI and I2C, there is no frame for detecting an error, so some definitions of new standards are required. Therefore, in this paper, the CRC error detection mode is newly defined in the SPI and I2C communication protocols, and the verification is presented by designing it in hardware.

  • Soy protein isolate (SPI) has garnered researchers' attention due to its abundance, costeffectiveness, excellent biocompatibility, hemo-compatibility, and biodegradability. However, SPI faces limitations in application due to poor processability and weak mechanical strength. Substantial efforts have been made to address these challenges. In this preliminary study, glycerol and biofibers were added to SPI to improve the mechanical properties and film forming, and glyoxal was employed to crosslink SPI molecules. The microstructure and mechanical properties of the resulting SPI/composite films were evaluated. A 15% addition of glycerol proved sufficient for good film formation. Among the biofibers, short SF microfibers were the most effective in enhancing breaking strength, while TEMPO-oxidized CNF (cellulose nanofiber) excelled among CNFs. Crosslinking with glyoxal significantly enhanced the mechanical properties, with the type of biofiber minimally affecting the mechanical properties of the crosslinked SPI composite films.

  • According to the State Safety Program (SSP) of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), it is essential to establish and manage Safety Performance Indicators (SPIs) which are used for monitoring the safety performance to achieve the national aviation safety goal. There have been enormous efforts to develop the framework of SPIs by considering the current status for each country. In case of Republic of Korea, however, there has been limited research and policy projects related to the framework for SPIs. Furthermore, Korea has used identical SPIs since the SSP was legislated in 2008. With this background, this research is, as part of strategy for the state level of SPI development, the study cases of advanced aviation countries for SPI development plans, such as the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) of the EU, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of the UK, the Finish Transport Safety Agency (FTSA) of the Finland and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the U.S. The comparison between the foreign and domestic policies for SPI development strategies are provided in the conclusion of this study. The results and analyses of the case studies performed in this research will be helpful to provide some valuable development strategies for further SPI research in Korea.

Comparison and Analysis of Drought Index based on MODIS Satellite Images and ASOS Data for Gyeonggi-Do (경기도 지역에 대한 MODIS 위성영상 및 지점자료기반 가뭄지수의 비교·분석)

  • Currently, the Korea Meteorological Administration evaluates the meteorological drought by region using SPI6(standardized precipitation index 6), which is a 6-month cumulative precipitation standard. However, SPI is an index calculated only in consideration of precipitation at 69 weather stations, and the drought phenomenon that appears for complex reasons cannot be accurately determined. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to calculate and compare SPI considering only precipitation and SDCI (Scaled Drought Condition Index) considering precipitation, vegetation index, and temperature in Gyeonggi. In addition, the advantages and disadvantages of the station data-based drought index and the satellite image-based drought index were identified by using results calculated through the comparison of SPI and SDCI. MODIS(MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) satellite image data, ASOS(Automated Synoptic Observing System) data, and kriging were used to calculate SDCI. For the duration of precipitation, SDCI1, SDCI3, and SDCI6 were calculated by applying 1-month, 3-month, and 6-month respectively to the 8 points in 2014. As a result of calculating the SDCI, unlike the SPI, drought patterns began to appear about 2-month ago, and drought by city and county in Gyeonggi was well revealed. Through this, it was found that the combination of satellite image data and station data increased efficiency in the pattern of drought index change, and increased the possibility of drought prediction in wet areas along with existing dry areas.

MHP: Master-Handoff Protocol for Fast and Energy-Efficient Data Transfer over SPI in Wireless Sensing Systems

  • Serial peripheral interface (SPI) has been identified as a bottleneck in many wireless sensing systems today. SPI is used almost universally as the physical connection between the microcontroller unit (MCU) and radios, storage devices, and many types of sensors. Virtually all wireless sensor nodes today perform up to twice as many bus transactions as necessary to transfer a given piece of data, as an MCU must serve as the bus master in all transactions. To eliminate this bottleneck, we propose the master-handoff protocol. After the MCU initiates reading from the source slave device and writing to the sink slave device, the MCU as a master becomes a slave, and either the source or the sink slave becomes the temporary master. Experiment results show that this master-handoff technique not only cuts the data transfer time in half, but, more importantly, also enables a superlinear energy reduction.

Hfq and ArcA Are Involved in the Stationary Phase-Dependent Activation of Salmonella Pathogenicity Island 1 (SPI1) Under Shaking Culture Conditions

  • In Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium, many genes encoded within Salmonella pathogenicity island 1 (SPI1) are required to induce intestinal/diarrheal disease. In this study, we compared the expression of four SPI1 genes (hilA, invF, prgH, and sipC) under shaking and standing culture conditions and found that the expression of these genes was highest during the transition from the exponential to stationary phase under shaking conditions. To identify regulators associated with the stationary phase-dependent activation of SPI1, the effects of selected regulatory genes, including relA/spoT (ppGpp), luxS, ihfB, hfq, and arcA, on the expression of hilA and invF were compared under shaking conditions. Mutations in the hfq and arcA genes caused a reduction in hilA and invF expression (more than 2-fold) in the early stationary phase only, whereas the lack of ppGpp and IHF decreased hilA and invF gene expression during the entire stationary phase. We also found that hfq and arcA mutations caused a reduction of hilD expression upon entry into the stationary phase under shaking culture conditions. Taken together, these results suggest that Hfq and ArcA regulate the hilD promoter, causing an accumulation of HilD, which can trigger a stationary phase-dependent activation of SPI1 genes under shaking culture conditions.

Development and Application of CT-SPI Model for Improving Computational Thinking for Elementary School Students

  • In this paper, we propose a CT-SPI Model based on a physical computing for improving Computational Thinking(CT) for elementary students. This study analyzes the results obtained from applying the CT-SPI model to fourth-grade class. The model is designed to embrace the learning activities and CT elements for three different stages: System thinking, Prototyping and Interaction. For providing curriculum with CT-SPI model, physical SW educational module is developed, so that learners could focus on internalizing CT. The study results indicate that a learning satisfaction and a degree of learner interest improve significantly. Comprehensive CT capability assessment results in three levels show that the capability in lowest level (score is below 4 out of 10) has decreased by 46.6% but capability in highest level (over 7 out of 10) has increased by 20%.

분리 대두 단백질과 옥수수 전분을 혼합하여 제조한 필름의 특성

  • 단백질, 탄수화물, 유지 등과 같은 생고분자를 소재로하여 제조하는 가식성 또는 생분해성 필름은 식품표면을 코팅하거나, 식품의 내부에 사용하여 식품을 외부의 충격으로부터 보호하고 식품의 저장수명을 증가시키는 동시에 수분, 기체 및 용질의 이동을 방지하는 기능을 한다. 이러한 가식성 필름의 소재 중 하나인 전분은 비교적 저가의 재료이고 기체투과를 방지하는 성질은 우수하지만, 탄력성이 적은 단점을 가지고 있다. 생고분자필름의 물리적 강도를 증진시키고 수증기의 투과성을 낮추는 방법으로 단백질과 탄수화물을 복합적으로 사용한다 본 실험에서는 분리 대두 단백질(SPI)과 옥수수 전분을 혼합하여 가식성의 생분해성 필름을 제조하고 이들의 이화학적 특성에 대해 연구하였다. SPI 필름은 SPI 5g에 증류수 100$m\ell$을 가해 glycerol 2g을 첨가해 제조하였으며, 옥수수 전분필름은 옥수수 전분 6g에 증류수 100$m\ell$을 가해 glycerol 1.2g을 첨가해 제조하였다. SPI와 옥수수 전분의 혼합필름은 SPI와 옥수수 전분의 양을 1:1 비율로 혼합하여 제조하였다. SPI 필름, 옥수수 전분 및 SPI와 옥수수 전분 용액의 혼합필름의 각각의 수증기 투과도는 7.49$\times$$10^{-11}$, 2.69$\times$$10^{-11}$, 4.24$\times$$10^{-11}$ g.m/m$^2$.s.Pa이었다. 본 실험으로 SPI의 단일재료로만 필름을 제조하였을 때보다 SPI 용액에 옥수수 전분용액을 혼합해 필름을 제조하면 탄력성을 유지하면서 수증기 투과도를 낮출 수 있다는 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.현미밥의 유리아미노산 분석 결과 필수아미노산을 포함한 다량의 아미노산이 존재하였으며 혈압강하 기능성 성분인 GABA(${\gamma}$ -amino butyric acid) 함량은 현미가 4.7 mg/100 g, 발아현미 20.8 mg/100 g이었으며, 동결건조 후 분석한 발아현미밥의 GABA 함량은 5.7 mg/100 g이었다. 발아현미밥의 관능검사 결과는 색, 윤기, 맛, 부착성, 응집성, 탄력성이 A가 유의적으로 높았으며, 외관의 경우도 A가 더 높은 평가를 받았다. 또한 전반적으로 A가 B에 비해 유의적인 차이를 나타내진 않았지만 더 나은 선호도를 나타내었다.좋게 평가되었다.*값은 63-68사이로, a*값은 0.13에서 -0.89사이를 b*값은 2-5값 사이에서 변화하여 제조한 죽의 색이 옅은 황색임을 알 수 있었다. 고형분 함량, 퍼짐성과 pH에 대한 $R^2$은 각각 0.4280, 0.5433과 0.2406임을 볼 때 버섯, 당근, 대파의 비율에 따라 제조한 쇠고기 야채 쌀죽의 고형분 함량, 퍼짐성과 pH는 설정된 범위내에서 그 유의성이 인정되지 않아 큰 영향을 미치지 않음을 알 수 있었다. 관능검사 결과, 색과 향에 대한 반응표면 회귀식의 $R^2$은 각각0.6000과 0.7825이고 P-value는 각각 0.4290과 0.0942로서 5% 수준에서 유의한 상관성이 없음을 확인할 수 있었다. 맛과 점성에 대한 $R^2$은 0.8717과 0.8068이고 P-value는 각각 0.0195 (p <0.05)와 0.0612로서 야채의 배합비에 따라 맛에 있어서 유의확률 5%수준에서 그 유의성이 인정되었으며, 전체적인 기호도에 대한 유의성은 $R^2$이 0.8463이고 P-value는 0.034
