  • The Direct Quadrature Method of Moments (DQMOM) has been presented for the solution of population balance equation in the wide range of the multi-phase flows. This method has the inherently interesting features which can be easily applied to the multi-inner variable equation. In addition, DQMOM is capable of easily coupling the gas phase with the discrete phases while it requires the relatively low computational cost. Soot inception, subsequent aggregation, surface growth and oxidation are described through a population balance model solved with the DQMOM for soot formation. This approach is also able to represent the evolution of the soot particle size distribution. The turbulence-chemistry interaction is represented by the laminar flamelet model together with the presumed PDF approach and the spherical harmonic P-1 approximation is adopted to account for the radiative heat transfer.

  • Synthesis of $PbLaTiO_{3}$ : Mn powders containing La and Mn was carried out using $PbO,\;TiO_{2},\;La_{2}O_{3}\;and\;MnO_{2}$ as starting materials by hydrothermal method. In the synthesis of single phase $PbLaTiO_{3}$ : Mn powder containing La and Mn, the optimal x value corresponding to La substitution was 0.01 which corresponds to $0.99(Pb_{1-x}La_{2x/3}TiO_{3})+0.01MnO_{2}$. The optimal conditions for the preparation of the powder synthesis were 8 M-KOH solvent of hydrothermal solvent, $270^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature and 24 hrs of run time. It was found that the synthesized powders had spherical morphology with average particle size of 70 nm and specific surface area of $5.5\;m^{2}/g$.

  • We present here an efficient and simple method for preparation of highly active heterogeneous ZnO photocatalyst (graphene oxide-zinc oxide: GO-ZnO), specifically by deposition of ZnO nanoparticles onto thiolated GOs. The resultant GO-ZnO sample was characterized by TEM, XRD, Auger, XPS, and Raman measurements, revealing that the size-similar and quasi-spherical ZnO nanoparticles were anchored to the thiolated GO surfaces. The average particle diameter was about 2.5 nm. In the photodegradation of methylene blue (MB) under ultraviolet (UV) light, GO-ZnO exhibited remarkably enhanced photocatalytic efficiency compared with thiolated GO and pure ZnO particles. This strong photocatalytic performance of GO-ZnO can be attributed to the suppression of electron recombination and the enhancement of mass transportation. The results showed that thiolated GO is the preferable supporting material.

  • Hydrothermal synthesis of find CeO₂ powder has been investigated. Synthesis was performed with Ce(NO₃)₃·6H₂O, in ethanol and water solution. Mineralizer were NH₄OH and KOH and reaction for the powder synthesis has performed at 130℃. The morphology of CeO₂ was nearly spherical in using NH₄OH and cubic form in KOH. Particle size increased with addition of NH₄OH. Ethanol solution was effective to reduced the agglomeration.

  • Ceramic tapes were fabricated by ultrasonically spraying slurries of monodispersed spherical and alumina powders. Effects of slurry compositions on tape forming were investigated. A relatively fast rate of solvent evaporation caused pores and cracks to be formed. A good chemical affinity between solvent and binder gave rise to binder separation resulting in inhomogeneous distribution of binder. Defect-free silica tapes with uniform distribution of particle packing and the binder were obtained from the solvent having a low chemical affinity and a slow evaporation rate and containing appropriate amounts of the binder and the plasticizer. Tape thickness could be controlled by adjusting solids loadings and slurry feed rates. It was possible to fabricate a tape in 15 $\mu\textrm{m}$ thickness from 7 vol% alumina slurry.

  • High pure and fine mullite powders were synthesized from Al-secbutoxide[Al(OC4H9)3] and TEOS[Si(OC2H5)4] (SiO2/Al2O3=2/3 mole). Sol-Gel process by partial hydrolysis technique, as it were, first, TEOS was partially hydrolysized and then mixed with Al-secbutoxide for complete hydrolysis was used. The mullite precursor was synthesized within 30 hrs, which was reduced about a half of synthetic time in comparison with the other's study. Al-Si spinel was formed at 980℃ and mullite crystal was formed at 1200℃. Mullite powders synthesized in this study was spherical type like those of the other studies and particle sizes were very fine. Also mullite powders calcined at 1,600℃ had a stoichiometric composition (3Al2O3·2SiO2) and lattice constants were coincided with known theoretical values.

  • Mo-doped $LiFePO_4$ was synthesized via co-precipitation method using sucrose as the carbon source. Structure, surface morphology, and the electrochemical properties of the synthesized olivine compounds were investigated using Rietveld refinement of X-ray diffraction data (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and electrochemical charge-ischarge tests. Spherical morphology with the particle size of ${\sim}8{\mu}m$ authenticated the enhanced tap density and volumetric energy density of the synthesized materials. Charge-discharge behavior of $LiFePO_4$ and Mo-doped $LiFePO_4$ cells demonstrated a specific capacity of 130 and 145 mAh $g^{-1}$, respectively. Mo-doped $LiFePO_4$ cells exhibited an excellent discharge capacity at 96 mAh $g^{-1}$ at 7 C-rate.

  • In order to get proper original suspension for the electrophoresis process of making YBaCuO films, YBaCuO superconductor powder was prepared with the Sol-gel method. The composition of the powder was analyzed by X-ray diffraction, which was identified as YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$\sub$7-x/(Yl23) phase. The form of YBaCuO single particle was showed to be spherical by scanning electronic microscope and its size was among 0.2-1 $\mu\textrm{m}$. The critical transition temperature (T$\sub$c/) and the critical current density (J$\sub$c/) were measured with the four-probe, method. The T$\sub$c/ was about 91 K, and the J$\sub$c/ was 5-30 A/$\textrm{cm}^2$.

  • Effect of catalysts, which was catalyzed by acid(HCl and HNO3) and base(NH4OH), on characteristics of the mullite powders prepared by sol-gel methdo wa sinvestigated by XRD, TGA, SEm AND BET. As a result, weight loss as a function of catalysts was in order of HCl=32.6%>HNO3=25.44%>Non=24.0%>NH4OH=22.5%. The mullite powder dried at 100$^{\circ}C$ appeared spherical shape in acid catalyst and different shape in base catalyst, but sintering powder at 1400$^{\circ}C$ appeared very fine particle of 0.05∼0.1$\mu\textrm{m}$ regardless of catalysts. In all cae, the pore quantity, which was capable to adsoprtion, was decreased with increasing temperature. In base catalyst, no change of special surface area in mullite appeared.

  • Microstructural control to produce multiphase structure has received much attention to improve the high temperature strength as well as low temperature ductility of intermetallics. Transmission electron microscopic investigation has been carried out concerning the effect of Cr-precipitation on the mechanical properties of B2-ordered NiAl containing 4 to 8 mol% of Cr. By aging at temperatures around 973 K after solution annealing, fine spherical precipitates took place homogeneously in the NiAl matrix and the alloys hardened appreciably. Selected area electron diffraction (SAED) patterns have not revealed any additional extra-spots during aging, because the Cr-particles show cube-cube orientation relationship and keep a perfect coherency with the ordered matrix lattice. Dislocations were confirmed to bypass the particles during deformation. Although the dispersion of Cr-particles increased the yield strength of NiAl at intermediate temperature, the strength decreased appreciably at higher temperatures.
