Nickel powders were prepared under solvothermal condition by precipitation from metal nitrates with aqueous ammonium hydroxide. The powders were obtained at in a temperature range of $190-250^{\circ}C$ for 6h. The morphology and size of nickel powders were studied as a function of reaction temperature. The synthesis of nickel crystalline particles is possible under a solvothermal conditions in ethylene glycol solution. Characterization of the synthesized nickel powders were studied by XRD, SEM(FE-SEM) and TG/DSC. X-ray diffraction analysis of the synthesized powders indicated the formation of nickel structure after reaction. The average crystalline sizes of the synthesized nickel powders were in the range of 200-1000 nm; and the distribution of the powders was broad. The shape of the synthesized nickel particles was almost spherical. The morphology of synthesized nickel powders changed with reaction condition. It was possible to synthesize nickel powders directly in ethylene glycol without reducing agent.
Our study have aimed to identify the deformation and breakup mechanism of minor phase in polymer blends under uniaxial enlongational flow. Experimentally, we measured the transient elongational viscosity of PS/HDPE blends using the uniaxial elongational rheometer at two temperatures. And we observed the evolution of blend morphology with elongation time. Morphological change was observed by quenching the specimen after deformation. If the viscosity variation of PS was compared with that of HDPE at each temperature, PS showed larger temperature dependence than HDPE. At 155$^{\circ}C$, the dispersed phase of larger size were easily affected by affine deformation. The initial spherical shape changed to flat ellipsoid at first, then flat ellipsoid to bulbous shape, and bulbous to thin thread and its satellites. But dispersed phase of smaller size showed the change from sphere to ellipsoid. At 175$^{\circ}C$, the dispersed phase were mostly deformed from spherical shape to ellipsoid. As a result, the morphological change of dispersed phase in elongational deformation is affected by chain flexibility and viscosity ratio. We need to further study to make sure the mechanism of elongation of viscoelastic polymer blends.
Lithium lanthanum titanium oxide (LLTO) is a promising ceramic electrolyte because of its high ionic conductivity at room temperature, low electrical conductivity, and outstanding physical properties. Several routes for the synthesis of bulk LLTO are known, in particular, solid-state synthesis and sol-gel method. However, the extremely low ionic conductivity of LLTO at grain boundaries is one of the major problems for practical applications. To diminish the grain boundary effect, the structure of LLTO is tuned to nanoscale morphology with structures of different dimensionalities (0D spheres, and 1D tubes and wires); this strategy has great potential to enhance the ion conduction by intensifying Li diffusion and minimizing the grain boundary resistance. Therefore, in this work, 0D spherical LLTO is synthesized using ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP). The USP method primarily yields spherical particles from the droplets generated by ultrasonic waves passed through several heating zones. LLTO is synthesized using USP, and the effects of each precursor and their mechanisms as well as synthesis parameters are analyzed and discussed to optimize the synthesis. The phase structure of the obtained materials is analyzed using X-ray diffraction, and their morphology and particle size are analyzed using field-emission scanning electron microscopy.
Spherical $MgB_2$ powders was synthesized with the ultrasonic spray pyrolysis(USP) process using aqueous solutions of boron and magnesium ion. The properties of synthesized $MgB_2$ powder were characterized by XRD, SEM and EDS. A small amount of MgO was detected as the secondary phase out of the synthesized powder and the ratios of $MgB_2$ to MgO increased with increasing furnace temperature. The particle size and morphology of $MgB_2$ powder were investigated with varying molar concentration of the boron and magnesium solution and furnace temperature between $600^{\circ}C$ and $1000^{\circ}C$ in $Ar/H_2$. The average particle size of $MgB_2$ showed narrow distribution ranging from 300nm to 400nm. The morphology of particles exhibited mostly spherical shapes and uniform distribution.
Bio-CaCO3 is a blowout environment-friendly materials for soil improvement and sealing of rock fissures. To evaluate the chemical characteristics, shape, size and productivity of soybean urease induced CaCO3 precipitates (SUICP), experimental studies were conducted via EDS, XRD, FT-IR, TGA, BET, and SEM. Also, the conversion rate of SUICP reaction at different time were determined and analyzed. The Bio-CaCO3 product obtained by SUICP is comprehensively judged as calcite based on the results of EDS, XRD and FT-IR. The SUICP calcite precipitates are detected as spherical or ellipsoidal particles 3-6 ㎛ in diameter with nanoscale pores on their surface, and this morphology is novel. The median secondary particle size d50 is 39-88 ㎛, indicating the agglomeration of the primary calcite particles. The Bio-calcite decomposes at 650-780℃, representing a medium thermal stability. The conversion rate of SUICP reaction can reach 80% in 24h, which is much more efficient than microbially induced CaCO3 precipitation. These results reveal the knowledges of SUICP, and further direct its engineering applications. Moreover, we show an economic channel to obtain porous spherical calcite.
Microstructural characteristics of semi-solid state processed hypereutectic Al-Si alloys have been investigated. Main concern of the present study is to investigate the effects of P and Sr addition on the size and morphology change of the primary Si particles. Refinement of the primary Si particles was observed with the addition of P and Sr at the early stage of semi-solid state processing, but such a refining effects became negligible resulting in Si particles with a near-spherical morphology with continuous stirring. This implies that the microstructural transformation mechanism became more dependent to stirring effects than to the alloying effects during semi-solid state processing. Brittle fracture and agglomeration were proposed as the mechanisms for microstructural alterations during semi-solid state processing.
The present study reports morphology and developmental pattern off siliquosa cultured in a laboratory condition. The zygote was spherical with a diameter of 85 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. During development the polarized zygote divided horizontally and the lower daughter cell divided horizontally into 2 cells. The upper cell was divided repeatedly in horizontal and vertical directions to form a cylinder-like structure, which subsequently developed into secondary and tertiary dichotomous branches. Optimum temperature for zygote release and fertilization was 25C. Injury inflicted by slicing was cured by epidermal differentiation, and adventitious branches; the branches emerging from the pith cells, however, developed no rhizoid. Adventitious branch formation rate was over 88% in all plates supplemented with 0.5 mg/L IAA and peaked at 98% under 0.5 mg/L IAA plus 0.5-5.0 mg/L NAA treatment. NAA stimulated the differentiation of adventitious branches at a wide range of concentrations, while IAA, 2,4-D and kinetin exhibited dose-dependent stimulation.
The effects of the zinc oxide (ZnO) preparing process on the performance of inverted organic photovoltaic cells (OPVs) were explored. The morphology and size of ZnO nanoparticles were controlled, leading to more efficient charge collection from device and higher electron mobility compared with nanospheres. Nanosized ZnO particles were synthesized by using zinc acetate dihydrate and potassium hydroxide in methanol. Also, water was added into the reaction medium to control the morphology of ZnO nanocrystals from spherical particles to rods, and $NH_4OH$ was used to prevent the gelation of dispersion. Solution-processed ZnO thin films were deposited onto the ITO/glass substrate by using spin coating process and then ZnO films were used as an electron transport layer in inverted organic photovoltaic cells. The analyses were carried out by using TEM, FE-SEM, AFM, DLS, UV-Vis spectroscopy, current density-voltage characteristics and solar simulator.
Using the ultrasonic pyrolysis method, spherical $SiO_2$ powders were synthesized from aqueous $SiO_2$ sol as a starting material. The effects of pyrolysis conditions such as reaction temperature, $SiO_2$ sol concentration, and physical properties of precursor were investigated for the morphologies of the resulting $SiO_2$ powders. The particle size, shape, and crystallite size of the synthesized $SiO_2$ powders were demonstrated according to the pyrolysis conditions. Generally, the synthesized $SiO_2$ particles were amorphous phase and showed spherical morphology with a smooth surface. It was revealed that increased crystallite size and decreased spherical $SiO_2$ particle size were obtained with increases of the pyrolysis reaction temperature. Also, quantity of spherical $SiO_2$ particles decreased with the decrease in the concentration and surface tension of the precursor.
A new technique for control of size and shape of flame-made particles is Introduced. The characteristic sintering time can be controlled Independently of collision time by heating the particles with irradiation of laser because the sintering time strongly depends on temperature. A coflow oxy-hydrogen diffusion flame burner was used for $SiCl_4$ conversion to silica particle. Nanometer sized aggregates irradiated by a high power CW $CO_2$ laser beam were rapidly heated up to high temperatures and then were sintered to approach volume-equivalent spheres. The sphere collides much slower than the aggregate, which results in reduction of sizes of particles maintaining spherical shape. Light scattering of Ar ion laser and TEM observation using a local sampling device were used to confirm the above effects. When the $CO_2$ laser was irradiated at low position from the burner surface, particle generation due to gas absorption of laser beam occurred and thus scattering intensity increased with $CO_2$ laser power. At high irradiation position, scattering intensity decreased with $CO_2$ laser power and TEM image showed a clear mark of evaporation and recondensation of particles for high $CO_2$ laser power. When the laser was irradiated between the above two positions where small aggregates exist, average size of spherical particles obviously decreased to 58% of those without $CO_2$ laser irradiation with the spherical shape. Even for increased carrier gas flow rate by a factor of three, TEM photograph also revealed considerable reduction of particle size.
