  • In this paper, particle velocity of slurry flow, a kind of solid-particle two phase flow, was measured by using a particle tracking velocimetry. Particles are modeled by sphere-shaped glass whose diameters are 3mm, 5mm, and 7mm At first, a particle which is falling in the water is captured and analyzed to give their free falling velocity. The falling velocity was very high up to about 4m/sec in the air, which needs special algorithm for the accurate measurement. For the upwelling slurry flow in the straight duct, there are some noises caused by cavity. However, the effect was so small that it does not affect the measurement of large particles. From the preliminary study of applying the PTV to measurement of particle movement in slurry flow, we could find out the optimum value of parameters: threshold value., searching area radius and correlation area size.

  • Ceramic ink-jet printing has become a widespread technology in ceramic tile and ceramicware industries, due to its capability of manufacturing products on demand with various designs. Generally, thermally stable ceramic inks of digital primary colors(cyan, magenta, yellow, black) are required for ink-jet printing of full color image on ceramic tile. Here, we synthesized an aqueous glass-ceramic ink, which is free of Volatile organic compound(VOC) evolution, and investigated its inkjet printability. $CoAl_2O_4$ inorganic pigment and glass frit were dispersed in aqueous solution, and rheological behavior was optimized. The formulated glass-ceramic ink was suitably jetted as single sphere-shaped droplets without satellite drops. After ink-jet printing and firing processes, the printed glass-ceramic ink pattern on glazed ceramic tile was stably maintained without ink spreading phenomena and showed an improved scratch resistance.

  • Glass-ceramic materials, which consist of glass matrix phase containing crystalline ${\beta}-Ca_3(PO_4)_2$ and ${\beta}-Ca_2P_2O_7$, have been prepared by heating at $750-900^{\circ}C$ of calcium phosphate invert glasses in the silica-free $CaO-P_2O_5-TiO_2-Na_2O$, system. With increasing heating temperature from 750 to $900^{\circ}C$, the crystallite size of precipitated ${\beta}-Ca_3(PO_4)_2$ in glass with $55CaO{\cdot}35P_2O_5{\cdot}3TiO_2{\cdot}7Na_2O$ (mol%) composition increased from 48 to 91 nm. With the extension of the immersion time in dilute acetic acid solution (pH = 5) to ${\geq}$200 min, the degree of dissolution of $Ca^{2+}$ and $P^{5+}$ ions in the glass-ceramics was linearly increased and the solution was constantly maintained at pH = ~7. Biomimetic nanostructured (62-88 nm in average dia.), sphere-shaped hydroxyapatite was homogeneously formed on the surface of the glass-ceramics when socked for 7-14 days in a Hanks' solution, indicating bioactivity of the prepared glass-ceramics.
