Spectrum sharing between wireless systems becomes a critical issue due to emerging new technologies and spectrum shortage. Recently, IMT system has been allocated in the same frequency C band (3400-4200MHz) along with FSS services on co-primary basis, which means that harmful interference probability may be inspired. In this paper, to estimate the spectrum sharing between IMT and FSS systems, the minimum separation distances have been evaluated considering major factors such as the clutter loss in some areas and the elevation angle of FSS earth station, and using I/N=-10dB which is fundamental criterion for coexistence.

Cognitive radios are typically known to exploit vacant spectrum resources in order not to interfere with primary communication systems. However, cognitive radios may not be able to secure a clear spectrum band in a bustling spectrum band. Underlay spectrum sharing provides a way to cope with such a spectrum sharing problem. Cognitive radios share the same spectrum band with the spectrum licensees, i.e., primary users, by adjusting signal transmission power so as not to severely deteriorate the performance of the primary users. We propose an underlay spectrum sharing policy leveraging uplink spectrum resource to be used in a cellular network. A pair of end terminals attempts to establish a direct point-to-point link, and perform as cognitive radios in the sense that they share the uplink radio resource of other primary users. We formulate the transmit power constraints of the cognitive radios and propose a practical uplink band sharing framework. Our simulation results demonstrate that such an uplink sharing underlay direct link can enhance the throughput performance of point-to-point link with low overhead.
Spectrum sharing between wireless systems becomes a critical issue clue to emerging new technologies and spectrum shortage. Recently, IMT system has been allocated in the same frequency C band (3400-4200MHz) along with FSS services on co-primary basis which means that harmful. interference probability may be inspired. In this paper, to estimate the spectrum sharing between IMT and FSS systems, I propose the minimum separation distances as a sharing criterion of I/N=-10dB using the interference to noise ratio(I/N) received at the reference FSS earth station from IMT multiple base station. Especially, same results imply that I/N values can be greatly reduced with MMO SDMA interference mitigation technique of IMT base station so that FSS and IMT systems can co-exist in the sam e frequency with appropriate separation distance.
Spectrum sharing between wireless systems becomes a critical issue due to emerging new technologies and spectrum shortage. Since WRC-07 allocated 3400-3600MHz band for the coming fourth generation (4G) or IMT-Advanced on a co-primary basis along with existing Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), it requires spectrum sharing studies to solve the interference problems between two systems. In this paper, I propose the separation distance between service coverages as a sharing fundamental criterion based on the interference to noise power ratio (I/N) received in a FWA base station from several IMT-Advanced base stations on the cellular systems. Especially, some results imply that I/N values compared to the worst case can be greatly reduced with MIMO SDMA interference mitigation technique of IMT-Advanced base stations so that these two systems can co-exist in the same frequency with appropriate separation distance.

In cognitive radio networks (CRNs), hybrid overlay and underlay sharing transmission mode is an effective technique for improving the efficiency of radio spectrum. Unlike existing works in the literature, where only one secondary user (SU) uses overlay and underlay modes, the different transmission modes should be allocated to different SUs, according to their different quality of services (QoS), to achieve the maximal efficiency of radio spectrum. However, hybrid sharing mode allocation for heterogeneous services is still a challenge in CRNs. In this paper, we propose a new resource allocation method for hybrid sharing transmission mode of overlay and underlay (HySOU), to achieve more potential resources for SUs to access the spectrum without interfering with the primary users. We formulate the HySOU resource allocation as a mixed-integer programming problem to optimize the total system throughput, satisfying heterogeneous QoS. To decrease the algorithm complexity, we divide the problem into two sub-problems: subchannel allocation and power allocation. Cutset is used to achieve the optimal subchannel allocation, and the optimal power allocation is obtained by Lagrangian dual function decomposition and subgradient algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm further improves spectrum utilization with a simultaneous fairness guarantee, and the achieved HySOU diversity gain is a satisfactory improvement.

In this paper, we investigate a power control problem which is very critical in underlay-based spectrum sharing systems. Although an underlay-based spectrum sharing system is more efficient compared to an overlay-based spectrum sharing system in terms of spectral utilization, some practical problems obstruct its commercialization. One of them is a real-time-based power adaptation of secondary transmitters. In the underlay-based spectrum sharing system, it is essential to adapt secondary user's transmit power to interference channel states to secure primary users' communication. Thus, we propose a practical power control scheme for secondary transmitters. The feedback overhead of our proposed scheme is insignificant because it requires one-bit signaling, while the optimal power control scheme requires the perfect information of channel states. In addition, the proposed scheme is robust to feedback delay. We compare the performance of the optimal and proposed schemes in terms of primary user's outage probability and secondary user's throughput. Our simulation results show that the proposed scheme is almost optimal in terms of both primary user's outage probability and secondary user's throughput when the secondary user's transmit power is low. As the secondary user's transmit power increases, the primary user's outage probability of the proposed scheme is degraded compared with the optimal scheme while the secondary user's throughput still approaches that of the optimal scheme. If the feedback delay is considered, however, the proposed scheme approaches the optimal scheme in terms of both the primary user's outage probability and secondary user's throughput regardless of the secondary user's transmit power.
The increasing demand for various mobile telecommunication services calls for more spectrum resource. Considering the scarcity of spectrum resource and the difficulties of development of higher frequency band, the unique way to meet the increasing demand is to maximize the utilization efficiency of the current spectrum resource. Under the circumstances, various spectrum sharing plans have been in recent studies to dissolve the excess spectrum demand. In addition, spectrum efficiency measurement methods become more important to verify the effectiveness of spectrum sharing and estimate the performance of various wireless systems. Our research addresses measurement methods to estimate spectrum utilization efficiency in a rational manner. Based on ITU-R recommendations, various measuring methods for spectrum utilization efficiency are reviewed. Then a queueing based approach is newly presented as alternatives to the current models. By using the proposed model, the spectrum efficiency increment with the adoption of spectrum sharing plans can be estimated more properly.

This paper considers a wideband cognitive radio network (WCRN) which can simultaneously sense multiple narrowband channels and thus aggregate the detected available channels for transmission and studies the ergodic throughput of the WCRN that operated under: the wideband sensing-based spectrum sharing (WSSS) scheme and the wideband opportunistic spectrum access (WOSA) scheme. In our analysis, besides the average interference power constraint at PU, the average transmit power constraint of SU is also considered for the two schemes and a novel cognitive radio sensing frame that allows data transmission and spectrum sensing at the same time is utilized, and then the maximization throughput problem is solved by developing a gradient projection method. Finally, numerical simulations are presented to verify the performance of the two proposed schemes.

In geo-location database oriented spectrum sharing system, the entire geographic area is divided into meshes to classify, store and delivery the cognitive information. In this paper, we propose a flexible polygon mesh division scheme to reduce the number of meshes. Hence the cognitive information can be reduced correspondingly. Besides, polygon mesh can approximate the real environment and reduce the error of cognitive information because the edges of polygon are selected along the boundaries of the networks. We have designed the polygon approximation algorithm and have analyzed the relation between the error and the number of polygon's edges. Finally, the simulation results are provided to verify the algorithm and analysis. The polygon mesh division scheme in this paper provides an efficient approach for cognitive information organization in database oriented spectrum sharing system.

In this paper, we analyze capacities of spectrum sharing scheme for both reverse link and forward link in hierachical CDMA cellular systems with Hot-spot microcell. Capacity analysis is performed through Monte-Carlo simulation by considering microcell radius, location of microcell. and transmission power ratio of microoell to macrocell. From simulation results, we analyzed these effects and derived a general design approach. In addition, the performance of spectrum sharing scheme for each link is analyzed in the capacity plane.
