This paper focuses on a priori signal to noise ratio (SNR) estimation method for the speech enhancement. There are many researches for speech enhancement with several ambient noise cancellation methods. The method based on spectral subtraction (SS) which is widely used in noise reduction has a trade-off between the performance and the distortion of the signals. So the need of adaptive method like an estimated a priori SNR being able to making a high performance and low distortion is increasing. The decision directed (DD) approach is used to determine a priori SNR in noisy speech signals. A priori SNR is estimated by using only the magnitude components and consequently follows a posteriori SNR with one frame delay. We propose a modified a priori SNR estimator and the weighted rational transfer function for speech enhancement with wind noises. The experimental result shows the performance of our proposed estimator is better Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality scores (PESQ, ITU-T P.862) compare to the conventional DD approach-based systems and different noise reduction methods.
It is an important component of the diagnosis to research the morphological changes of EMG in pathological conditions. In order to provide an EMG signal resulting from a predetermined neuromuscular pathophysiology, we have initially developed a mathmatical model of electromyographic interference pattern(IP). It can be used to study the variation of the IP resulting from morphological and electrophysiological changes occurring in disease states, because the model computes the IP from the underlying fiber and muscle structure. We performed quantative analysis or the model output, focusing on IPs resulting from simulations of dystrophic fiber loss and the MU denervation and reinnervation typical of neuropathies. To discribe the characteristics of IPs associated with these pathologies, a set of frequency domain discriptors, activity, mobility, and complexity were used, as well as several measures of the spectral density function. These discriptors demonstrate distinct patterns of variation corresponding to morphological changes observed in disease states, and closely with results obtained from the classical method, turn/amp technique.
The performance of a cognitive radio network (CRN) solely depends on how precisely the secondary users can sense the presence or absence of primary users. The incorporation of a spatial false alarm makes deriving the probability of a correct decision a cumbersome task. Previous literature performed this task for the case of a received signal under a Normal probability density function case. In this paper we enhance the previous work, including the impact of carrier frequency, the gain of antennas on both sides, and antenna heights so as to observe the robustness against noise and interference and to make the correct decision of detection. Three small scale fading channels: Rayleigh, Normal, and Weibull were considered to get the real scenario of a CRN in an urban area. The incorporation of a maximal-ratio combining and selection combing with a variation of the number of received antennas have also been studied in order to achieve the correct decision of spectral sensing, so as to serve the cognitive users. Finally, we applied the above concept to a traffic model of the CRN, which we based on a two-dimensional state transition chain.
This study was to monitor changes of leaf area index (LAI) and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), calculated from ground-based remotely sensed high resolution reflectance spectra, during rice (Oryza sativa L. cv. TNG 67) growth so as to determine their relationships and the optimum time period to use these parameters for yield prediction. Field experiments were conducted at the experimental farm of TARI to obtain various scales of grain yield and values of LAI and NDVI in the first and the second cropping seasons of 2001-2002. It was found that LAI and NDVI can be mutually estimated through an exponential relationship, and hence plant growth information and spectral remote sensing data become complementary counterparts through this linkage. Correlation between yield and LAI was best fitted to a nonlinear function since about 7 weeks after transplanting (WAT). The accumulated and the mean values of LAI from 15 days before heading (DBH) to 15 days after heading (DAH) were the optimum time period to predict rice yield for First Crops, while values calculated from 15 DBH to 10 DAH were the optimal timing for Second Crops.
Database segmented and labeled up to phoneme level plays an important role in phonetic research and speech engineering. However, it usually requires manual segmentation and labeling, which is time-consuming and may also lead to inconsistent consequences. Automatic segmentation and labeling can be introduced to solve these problems. In this paper, we investigate a method to improve the performance of automatic segmentation and labeling system, where Spectral Variation Function(SVF), modification of silence model, and use of energy variations in postprocessing stage are considered. In this paper, SVF is applied in three ways: (1) addition to feature parameters, (2) postprocessing of phoneme boundaries, (3) restricting the Viterbi path so that the resulting phoneme boundaries may be located in frames around SVF peaks. In the postprocessing stage, positions with greatest energy variation during transitional period between silence and other phonemes were used to modify boundaries. In order to evaluate the performance of the system, we used 452 phonetically balanced word(PBW) database for training phoneme models and phonetically balanced sentence(PBS) database for testing. According to our experiments, 83.1% (6.2% improved) and 95.8% (0.9% improved) of phoneme boundaries were within 20ms and 40ms of the manually segmented boundaries, respectively.

In this paper, a simplified model is studied to predict analytically the radiated noise from the helical gear system due to an axial excitation of helical gear. The simplified model describes gear, shaft, bearing, and housing. To obtain the axial force of helical gear, mesh stiffness is calculated in the load deflection relation. The axial force is obtained from the solution of the equation of motion, using the mesh stiffness. It is used as a longitudinal excitation of the shaft, which in turn drives the gear housing through the bearing. In this study, the shaft is modeled as a rod, while the bearing is modeled as a parallel spring and damper only supporting longitudinal forces. The gear housing is modeled as a clamped circular plate with viscous damping. For the modeling of this system, transfer function from the shaft to the clamped plate are used, using a spectral method with four pole parameters. Out-of-plane displacement for the thin circular plate with viscous damping is derived and sound pressure radiated from the plate is also derived. Using the model, parameter studies are carried out.
1H NMR spectra of 3,3-dimethylpiperidine (1) at -70 to 30 ℃ exhibit gradual change from slow to rapid exchange between two alternate chair forms. The exchange rate constant was determined as a function of temperature by simulating the line shape of the signal from the two methyl groups using the modified Bloch equations. The resulting free energy of activation is ΔG* = 44.4±1.9 kJ mol-1 at 298 K. The 1H NMR spectrum of a D2O or dimethylsulfoxide-d6 (DMSO-d6) solution containing 1 and [SiW11CoⅡO39]6- exhibits separate signals for the free ligand and the complex, indicating that the ligand exchange is slow on the NMR time scale. In D2O the piperidine ring is frozen as a chair form even at room temperature with the cobalt ion bonded to the axial position of the nitrogen atom. When DMSO-d6 is added to the D2O solution, the NMR spectral change suggests that a rapid exchange occurs between the chair form and another conformer. It is proposed that the conformation of ^b1^b coordinated to [SiW11CoⅡO39]6- in DMSO-d6 is close to a twist form.
Wind fragility analysis provides a quantitative instrument for delineating the safety performance of civil structures under hazardous wind loading conditions such as cyclones and tornados. It has attracted and would be expected to continue to attract intensive research spotlight particularly in the nowadays worldwide context of adapting to the changing climate. One of the challenges encumbering efficacious assessment of the safety performance of existing civil structures is the possible incompleteness of the structural appraisal data. Addressing the issue of the data missingness, the study presented in this paper forms a first attempt to investigate the feasibility of using the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm and Bayesian techniques to predict the wind fragilities of existing civil structures. Numerical examples of typical linear or hysteretic shear frames are introduced with the wind loads derived from a widely used power spectral density function. Specifically, the application of the maximum a posteriori estimates of the distribution parameters for the story stiffness is examined, and a surrogate model is developed and applied to facilitate the nonlinear response computation when studying the fragilities of the hysteretic shear frame involved.
Silver ion-exchanged glass waveguide with its large surface index difference and shallow depth is suitable to be used for the hybrid integration of semiconductor device and glass waveguide using the semiconductor film grafting technique. We report characteristics of the planar and channel glass waveguides exchanged in the diluted silver nitrate melt in the visible and infrared spectral region. Especially, we determined the fabrication parameters for single-mode channel waveguide at 1.5.$\mu$m, an important wavelength in the optical communication. Directional couplers with several different configurations were fabricated, and their 3 dB coupling length was determined as a function of wavelenGh and polarization.
We have evaluated the suppression effect of atmospheric-turbulence-induced optical scintillation in terrestrial free-space optical (FSO) communication systems using a gain-saturated erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA). The variation of EDFA output signal power has been measured with different amounts of gain saturation and modulation indices of the optical input signal. From the measured results, we have found that the peak-to-peak power variation was decreased drastically below 2 kHz of modulation frequency, in both 3-dB and 6-dB gain compression cases. Then, the power spectral density (PSD) of optical scintillation has been calculated with Butterworth-type transfer function. In the calculation, different levels of atmospheric-turbulence-induced optical scintillation have been taken into account with different values of the Butterworth cut-off frequency. Finally, the suppression effect of optical scintillation has been estimated with the measured frequency response of the EDFA and the calculated PSD of the optical scintillation. From our estimated results, the atmospheric-turbulence-induced optical scintillation could be suppressed efficiently, as long as the EDFA were operated in a deeply gain-saturated region.
