  • Multi-Spectral Camera(MSC) is a main payload on the KOMPSAT-2 satellite to perform the earth remote sensing. The MSC instrument has one(1) channel for panchromatic imaging and four(4) channel for multi-spectral imaging covering the spectral range from 450nm to 900nm using TDI CCD Focal Plane Array (FPA). The compression method on KOMPSAT-2 MSC was selected and used to match EOS input rate and PDTS output data rate on MSC image data chain. At once the MSC performance was carefully handled to minimize any degradation so that it was analyzed and restored in KGS(KOMPSAT Ground Station) during LEOP and Cal./Val.(Calibration and Validation) phase. In this paper, on-orbit image data chain in MSC and image data processing on KGS including general MSC description is briefly described. The influences on image performance between on-board compression algorithms and between performance restoration methods in ground station are analyzed and discussed.

  • The ocean Scanning Multi-spectral Imager (OSMI) is a payload on the KOrea Multi-Purpose SATellite (KOMPSAT) to perform worldwide ocean color monitoring f the study of biological oceanography. OSMI performs solar and dark calibrations for on-orbit instrument calibration. The purpose of the solar calibration is to monitor the degradation of imaging performance for each pixel of 6 spectral bands and to correct the degradation effect on OSMI image during the ground station date processing. The design, the operation concept, and the radiometric characteristics of the solar calibration are investigated. A linear model of image response and a solar calibration radiance model are proposed to study the instrument characteristics using the solar calibration data. The performance of spectral responsivity and spatial response uniformity. The first solar calibration data and the analysis results are important references for further study on the on-orbit stability of OSMI response during its lifetime.

  • To analyzed ride quality and to predict durability in vehicle dynamics, it is essential to describe a road surface profile precisely. This paper presents a technique to generate road surface profiles in a spatial domain by using a power spectral density function. A single track power spectral density function is proposed to describe a road surface profile, which is also applicable for multi-track vehicle response analysis, The derived road surfaces are compared to ISO(International Organization for Standardization) standards and classifications, proposed by the MIRA(Motor Industry Research Association). The methodology in this paper is also proposed to generate road roughness description with a limited external data. A small amount of external curve data is combined with an internal PSD function to generate road surface roughness in a spatial domain.

  • The use of frequency-dependent dynamic stiffness matrix (or spectral element matrix) in structural dynamics may provide very accurate solutions, while it reduces the number of degrees-of-freedom to improve the computational efficiency and cost problems. Thus, this paper develops a spectral element model for the thin plates moving with constant speed under uniform in-plane tension. The concept of Kantorovich method is used in the frequency-domain to formulate the dynamic stiffness matrix. The present spectral element model is evaluated by comparing its solutions with the exact analytical solutions. The effects of moving speed and in-plane tension on the flexural wave dispersion characteristics and natural frequencies of the plate are numerically investigated.

  • In the middle -resolution remote sensing, the Ground Sampled Distance(GSD) sensed and sampled by the detector is generally larger than the size of objects(or materials) of interest, in which case several objects are embedded in a single pixel and cannot be detected spatially. This study is intended to solve this problem of a hyperspectral data with high spectral resolution. We examined the detection algorithm, Linear Spectral Mixing Model, and also made a test on the Hyperion data. To find class Endmembers, we applied two methods, Spectral Library and Geometric Model, and compared them with each other.

  • In satellite spectra, Though the magnitude varies with intensity of sunstroke, dip angle of land so on, the shape is less deformed with these effects. from this point of view, we have developed a spectral shape-dependent analysis utilizing a normalization procedure by the spectral integral and applied it to Landsat/TM spectra. Inevitable topographic and atmospheric effects can be suppressed. The correction algorithm is very simple and timesaving and the suppression of topographic effects is especially effective. Normalized band 4 is almost linear to NDVI values, and is available to the vegetation index.

  • A critical evaluation is made of the spectral bias which occurs in the use of a laser doppler velocimeter(LDV). Two processing algorithms are considered for spectral estimates: the sample and hold interpolation method(SH) and the nonuniform Shannon reconstruction technique(SR). Assessment is made of these for varying data densities $(0.05{\le}d.d.{\le}5)$ and turbulence levels(t.i.=30%, 100%). As an improved version of the spectral estimator, the utility of POCS (the projection onto convex sets) has been tested in the present study. This algorithm is found useful to be in the region when $d.d.{\gep}3.$

  • Recent developments on spectral diffusion algorithms, i.e., algorithms which exploit the projection of the solution on the eigenfunctions of the Laplacian operator, demonstrated their effective applicability in fast transient conditions. Nevertheless, the numerical error introduced by these algorithms, together with the uncertainties associated with model parameters, may impact the reliability of the predictions on short-lived volatile fission product release from nuclear fuel. In this work, we provide an upper bound on the numerical error introduced by the presented spectral diffusion algorithm, in both constant and time-varying conditions, depending on the number of modes and on the time discretization. The definition of this upper bound allows introducing a methodology to a priori bound the numerical error on short-lived volatile fission product retention.

  • In this paper, a sound reception system using a phase difference of whistle signals is proposed and analyzed based on spectral analysis. The proposed system receives whistle signals from four microphones installed in four different directions with 90-degree intervals between them. The proposed algorithm detects the phase of each received signal based on spectral analysis and estimates the direction of the whistle signal by obtaining the phase difference between the received signals from two adjacent microphones. Furthermore, we theoretically analyze the phase difference between two adjacent received signals according to their arrival angles and implement the proposed system using a DSP chip. In addition, the operation of the proposed algorithm are verified using the implemented system in a laboratory environment. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme can well estimate the direction of the whistle signal.

  • With the study for identifying the transmission characteristics of vibration and noise generated by operating engine system of a vehicle, recently many engineers have studied actively the reduction of vibration and noise inducing uncomfortableness to the passenger. In this study, output noise was analyzed by multi-dimensional spectral analysis and vector synthesis method. The multi-dimensional analysis method is very effective in case of identification of primary source, but this method has little effect on suggestion for interior noised reduction. For compensation of this, vector synthesis method was used to obtain effective method for interior noise reduction, after identifying primary source for output noise. In this paper, partial coherence function of each input was calculated to know which input was most coherent to output noise, then with simulation of changes for input magnitude and phase by vector synthesis diagram, the trends of synthesized output vector was obtained. As a result, the change of synthesized output vector could be estimated.
