차체구조용 복합재 박육부재의 축압괴 특성에 관한 연구 (The Study on the Axial Collapse Characteristics of Composite Thin-Walled Members for Vehicles)

  • Composites have wide applications in aerospace vehicles and automobiles because of the inherent flexibility in their design for improved material properties. Composite tribes in particular, are potential candidates for their use as energy absorbing elements in crashworthiness applications due to their high specific energy absorbing capacity and the stroke efficiency. Their failure mechanism however is highly complicated and rather difficult to analyze. This includes fracture in fibres, in the matrix and in the fibre-matrix interface in tension, compression and shear. The purpose of this study is to investigate the energy absorption characteristics of CFRP(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics) tubes on static and impact tests. Static compression tests have been carried out using the static testing machine and impact tests have been carried out using the vertical crushing testing machine. Interlaminar number affect the energy absorption capability of CFRP tubes. Also, theoretical and experimental have the same value.

Round robin analysis of vessel failure probabilities for PTS events in Korea

  • Round robin analyses for vessel failure probabilities due to PTS events are proposed for plant-specific analyses of all types of reactors developed in Korea. Four organizations, that are responsible for regulation, operation, research and design of the nuclear power plant in Korea, participated in the round robin analysis. The vessel failure probabilities from the probabilistic fracture mechanics analyses are calculated to assure the structural integrity of the reactor pressure vessel during transients that are expected to initiate PTS events. The failure probabilities due to various parameters are compared with each other. All results are obtained based on several assumptions about material properties, flaw distribution data, and transient data such as pressure, temperature, and heat transfer coefficient. The realistic input data can be used to obtain more realistic failure probabilities. The various results presented in this study will be helpful not only for benchmark calculations, result comparisons, and verification of PFM codes developed but also as a contribution to knowledge management for the future generation.

Dynamic response of reinforced concrete members incorporating steel fibers with different aspect ratios

  • Investigations on the dynamic behavior of concrete members, incorporating steel fibers with different aspect ratios, are limited so far and do not covered comprehensively in prior studies. Present endeavor is devoted to examine the dynamic response of the steel fibrous concrete beams and slabs under the influence of impact loading. These members were reinforced with steel fibers in different length of 25 mm and 50 mm. Four concrete mixes were designed and used based on the proportion of long and short fibers. Twenty-four slabs and beams were fabricated with respect to the concrete mix and these specimens were tested in impact load experiment. Testing observations revealed that the maximum dynamic deflection or ductility of the member can be achieved with increasing the fiber length. Structural behavior of the tested structures was predicted using nonlinear finite element analysis with specific material constitutive relationships. Eight nodes plate elements have been considered in the present dynamic analysis. Dynamic fracture energy of the members was calculated and agreement ratio, of more than 70%, was noticed between the experimental and analysis outcomes.

Compact CNS shear box를 활용한 모의 절리암석시료의 정적 전단 거동에 관한 연구 (Study of the Static Shear Behaviors of Artificial Jointed Rock Specimens Utilizing a Compact CNS Shear Box)

  • 본 연구에서는 절리면 암석 시료에 대한 직접 전단시험을 수행하기 위해 새로 고안된 Compact CNS shear box의 성능과 적용 가능성에 대해 조사하였다. 정적 CNS 절리면 직접 전단시험은 인공적으로 거칠기를 생성한 절리 암석을 대상으로 실시하였으며 절리면 거칠기 계수 및 초기 수직응력 조건을 변화시키면서 수행하였다. 또한, DIC 분석을 통해 변위 데이터 검증 및 파괴 패턴을 관찰하였고 실험으로부터 도출된 전단 특성들을 기존에 연구되었던 전단 거동 예측 모델들과 비교분석하였다. 그 결과 기존의 특정 경험적 전단 거동 예측 모델과 높은 상관관계를 나타내는 것을 확인하였으며 전단 거동 특성이 파괴 패턴과 관련이 있을 가능성에 대해 고찰하였다. 결론적으로, 절리면 전단 특성에 대한 데이터를 제공하는데 있어서 CNS 전단 박스의 적용 가능성과 효과를 입증하였다.

Al 7075/CFRP 샌드위치 복합재료의 강도 및 손상특성에 대한 비파괴 평가 (Nondestructive Evaluation on Strength Characteristic and Damage Behavior of Al 7075/CFRP Sandwich Composite)

  • A hybrid composite material has many potential usage due to the high specific strength and the resistance to fatigue, when compared to other composite materials such as fiber reinforced plastic(FRP) and metal matrix composite(MMC). However, the fracture mechanism of hybrid composite material is extremely complicated because of the bonding structure of metals and FRP. In this study, Al 7075 sheets and carbon epoxy preprags were used to fabricate the hybrid composite. Recently, nondestructive technique has been used to evaluate the fracture mechanism of these composite materials. AE technique was used to clarify the microscopic damage behavior and failure mechanism of A17075/CFRP hybrid composite. It was found that AE paralneters such as AE event, energy and amplitude were effective to evaluate the failure process of Al 7075/CFRP composite. In addition, the relationship between the AE signal and the characteristics of fracture surface using optical microscope was discussed.

Crack Layer 이론을 이용한 배관용 고밀도 폴리에틸렌의 응력부식균열 진전 및 수명 예측 모델 (Modeling of stress corrosion crack growth and lifetime of pipe grade high density polyethylene by using crack layer theory)

  • In many cases, the field fracture mechanism of the thermoplastic pipe is considered as either brittle or environmental fractures. Thus the estimation of the lifetime by modeling slow crack growth considering such fracture mechanisms is required. In comparison of the some conventional and empirical equations to explain the slow crack growth rate such as the Paris' law, the crack layer theory can be used to simulate the crack and process zone growth behaviors precisely, so the lifetime of thermoplastic pipe can also be accurately estimated. In this study, the modified crack layer theory for the stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of high density polyethylene is introduced with detailed algorithm. The oxidation induction time of the HDPE is also considered for the reduction of specific fracture energy during exposed to chemical environments. Furthermore, the parametric study for an important SCC parameter is conducted to understand the slow crack growth behavior of SCC.

찢김 하중에서 단일 재료 및 이종 접합 재료에 따른 이중외팔보 시험편의 접착제 파손 특성 (Adhesive Fracture Characteristic of DCB Specimen due to Single and Heterogeneous Materials under Tearing Load)

  • In this study, the adhesive fracturing characteristics of a DCB specimen due to single and heterogeneous bonding materials under tearing load was investigated. The experiments were conducted to examine the fracturing properties of the adhesive DCB specimen. As an experimental condition, a forced displacement of 3mm/min was applied to one side while the other side was fixed. As a result of the experiment, it was found that the AL6061-T6 material was superior to the CFRP material in terms of maximum stress, specific strength, and energy release rate when compared to the adhesive fracturing property of a single material. We tested CFRP-AL, a heterogeneous bonding material, and compared its experimental results to the results from the single materials. Based on these results, CFRP-AL with a heterogeneous bonding material was observed to have the superior structural safety compared to single materials for the mode III fracture type.

원통형 복합재료 압력 용기의 기계적 물성 평가를 위한 세그먼트 형 링 버스트 시험 방법 분석 (Analysis of the Segment-type Ring Burst Test Method for the Mechanical Property Evaluation of Cylindrical Composite Pressure Vessel)

  • 복합재료는 높은 비 강성 및 비 강도 특성으로 인해 기체 혹은 액체 연료를 저장하기 위한 압력 용기의 설계 및 제작에 널리 활용되고 있다. 이에 따라, 압력용기의 파열압력 또는 파단 변형률의 기계적 특성의 보다 정확한 측정은 상용화 전에 필수적 요소이다. 그러나, 기존의 시험방법을 활용한 복합재료 압력 용기의 안전성 검증은 하중 전달 매체의 변형으로 인한 추가적인 에너지 손실의 발생과, 불필요한 하중 및 모멘트의 발생 등의 한계가 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 수직기둥의 이론적인 하중전달 정도와 적용 가능한 수직방향 변위를 고려하여 세그먼트형 링 버스트 시험장치를 설계하였다. 또한, 세그먼트 형 링 버스트 시험장치의 균일한 압력분포를 검증하기 위해 수치해석을 활용하였고, 수압 시험방법과 링 시편의 원주방향 응력 및 변형률 분포를 비교하였다. 복합재료 압력용기의 파괴 거동을 모사하기 위해 Hashin 파손 기준을 적용하였고, 실험적으로 파단 변형률을 측정하여 이를 수치해석 결과와 비교하였다.

Quartz의 연삭 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Grinding Characteristics of the Quartz)

  • This study reports the grinding characteristics of quartz. Grinding experiments were performed at various grinding conditions including wheel mesh, table speed and depth of cut. The grinding forces and specific grinding energies were measured. Surface roughness was also measured with tracer and the ground surfaces were observed with SEM. A new parameter SDR(Surface roughness Direction Ratio) is proposed to characterize the grinding mechanisms of quartz. A set of experiments was performed to verify the effectiveness of the suggested parameter. The experimental results indicate that the ductile mode is the dominant material removal mode at the grinding conditions which show the higher value of SDR whereas the material is removed by brittle fracture in a lower value of SDR value increases with wheel mesh size.

  • The wear behaviour of steam generator (SG) tubes (Inconel 600 and 690) against support materials (405 and 409 ferritic stainless steels) has been experimentally studied in room temperature water using reciprocating wear apparatus with tube-an-plate configuration. The results showed that the wear rate of Inconel 690 was lower than that of lnconel 600 with increasing normal loads and sliding amplitudes. Also, plastic deformation layers appear below the surface of both SG tubes, which have a specific thickness and are small compared with their grain size. This means that wear rate of SG tubes in water condition is closely related to the formation and fracture of plastic deformation layers.
