  • Much has changed in the healthcare field since the beginning of the industrial age. In the healthcare field changes are occurring so rapidly and dramatically that yesterday's paradigm will not be tomorrow's paradigm, creating the need above all else to stay fluid and flexible as strategies(included healthcare architecture planning) for the future are developed. The purpose of this study is to analyze the latest architectural trends of general hospital outpatient department based on the healthcare environment changes in Korea. The major healthcare environment change is to change the object of hospital's healthcare services from inpatient to outpatient. In conclusion, the first, medical faculties of outpatient department are subdivided specialized small faculty. The second, clinic systems for medical examination and treatment of specific disease are activated in the most outpatient department. The third, specialized medical centers for chronical disease(Cancer, Cardiac etc.) control are arranged in existed outpatient department or freestanding facility. Specialized medical center for preventive medicine is regionally decentralized for corresponding with the healthcare paradigm shifts.

Field Case Study of Mechanized Form Roads Pavement Construction using Cellulose Fiber Reinforced Concrete (셀룰로오스 섬유보강 콘크리트를 사용한 기계화경작로 확·포장공사의 현장사례 연구)

  • At the present, the mechanized form roads pavement was constructed with plain concrete. Mostly, it was used by welded wire mesh for preventing crack. Cellulose fibers for the reinforcement of concrete offer relatively high levels of elastic modulus, fiber count (per unit weight), specific surface, and bond strength to cement-based materials. The construction of concrete pavement confirmed that cellulose fiber reinforced concrete was applicable to mechanized form roads pavement. In the study, cellulose fibers were used here at 0.08 % volume fraction, which is equivalent to a fiber content of $1.2kg/m^3$. Cellulose fiber reinforced concrete were compared with plain concrete. Field test results indicated that cellulose fiber reinforced concrete showed slightly to increase of 28 days compressive strength and improved the initial strength. it tended to increase of splitting tensile strength. Test results showed that the slump and air content tend to decreased. but, the variation of air contends is very little. Also, construction cost of cellulose fiber reinforced concrete is less than about 25.7 % the case of welded wire mesh previously used. Therefore, The cost reduction is expected to be possible in construction site by mechanized form roads pavement.

  • The list of the titles of surveying-related papers and books is updated by adding newly polished paper/book titles to the existing one. A special title-search program is developed for managing and searching the surveying-re-lated paper/book titles, and the database is established from the list of the papers. The total number of papers/books in surveying-related field published in Korea upto now is 971. The number of papers/books published in the specific fields are 206 in the conventional surveying field, 218 in Photogrammetry, 183 in Remote Sensing, 127 in Geodesy and GPS, and 237 in Digital Mapping and GIS. The special title-search program is developed using the Visual Basic 3.0 for Windows 3.1 to be operated in the Window environment. The SQL(Structured Query Language) is used for the searching commands.

  • This study intended to make new suggestions by clarifying usefulness of analysis methodology for the intellectual structure of disciplines, which combines author co-citation analysis and author bibliographic coupling analysis. It also aimed to identify the recent research trend and key researchers recently doing research activities actively as well as the intellectual structure in the field of social welfare. It was found to be more efficient to conduct both author co-citation analysis and author bibliographic coupling analysis in order to identify traditional sub-areas of disciplinary subject or the research trend of actual researchers in examining the intellectual structure of a specific discipline.

  • The computational fluid dynamic analysis has been conducted for the thermo-chemical flow field in an arcjet thruster with mono-propellant hydrazine $(N_2H_4)$ as a working fluid. Coupled Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations and Maxwell equations were used to account for the Ohm heating and Lorentz forces. ionization and thermal radiation effects were also incorporated to the fluid dynamic equations by assuming infinitely-fast reactions and optically thick media. In addition to the thermo-physical understandings of the flow field inside the arcjet thruster, results shows that performance indices are improved by amount of 20% in thrust and 70% in specific impulse with the 0.6kW are heating.

Preference of adult top shell (Batillus cornutus) on specific marine algae in the coastal waters of Jeju Island (제주도산 소라 (Batillus cornutus) 성패의 특정 해조류에 대한 선호도)

  • This paper examines relation between growth of adult top shell and their selectivity over different marine algae. For the study the top shell density and the algal species in different depth were surveyed by SCUBA. To test selectivity over different types of algae, five algal species including Ecklonia cava, Undaria pinnatifida, Ulva spp, Gelidium amansii and Sargassum spp were provided to top shells in indoor water tank condition. In the field survey, the wet weight of Ecklonia cava was significantly (r = 0.612, p < 0.05) correlated to the shell length (SL) of top shell. In the indoor water tank experiment conducted over 12 hours after sunrise, adult top shell (SL > SL 4.5 cm) tended to select Ecklonia cava and Undaria pinnatifida, which are common and abundant algal in the subtidal waters in Jeju Island. Our field survey and the indoor experiment suggest that E. cava and U. pinnatifida could be food preferred by adult top shell in its habitat.

  • An establishment of effective control measures to PRRSV infection in swine industry depends on a sensitive and specific diagnosis to detect either viral antigen and/or antibodies to PRRSV. Several diagnostic methods are available to detect antibodies against PRRSV, including IPMA, IFA and ELISA tests have been successfully developed. Sensitivity of the indirect immunofluorescent assay in MA-104 cells using Korean field isolate PL96-1 was superior to that of VR-2332 and field isolate PL96-2. Sensitivity and specificity of the IFA test with PL96-1 were comparable to those of commercial ELISA test kit but ELISA test was more sensitive for the detection of declining antibodies to PRRSV in finishing pigs. In this study we concluded that IFA and ELISA test could be utilized to detect antibodies to PRRSV and the results generated from these two tests were comparable and there were no significant difference between these two tests.

  • Korea has shown the lowest birth rate among OECD countries for over 10 years. This caused various social tensions and problems including negative impacts on national economy. To deal with these problems and to cope with future risk, diverse strategies must be actively explored. The purpose of this research is to delineate the characteristics of Toronto Birth Centre in Canada which was established currently to support families. Field visit study was the major methodology which includes interview with a staff and walk-through guided observation accompanied by visual recording. As a result, the specific functions and the logic of utilizing the center along with its spatial characteristics were delineated. The result has significant implication in developing coping strategies to release the social tension. The birth center can be an efficient strategy to include as a public strategy to Korean Society who has suffered from long lasting lowest birth rate.

  • 3D printing technology supporting the specific patient medical services is actively being implemented in dentistry. The purpose of this study is to introduce the legal and institutional considerations to the medical practitioners in dentistry who must observe when they manufacture medical devices using 3D printers, and to provide a ways to activate and enhance their utilization in the domestic approval point of view for medical devices. Through the public data of government agencies and related organizations, the statutory system and compliance matters related to the manufacture of 3D printing medical devices have been examined and reviewed for the government's improvement efforts. Through the study, the government has been actively improving the system and making policy, but the active interest and participation of medical professionals and related workers are continually required to solve the problems which are scattered. 3D printing technology is expected to be more frequently utilized in the field of dentistry in near future. Therefore, it is essential to establish measures to improve the regulation through continuous cooperation with the related ministries with the long-term point of view enhancing smooth entry to the market for the medical devices by taking data from the continued research.

Data Compression Algorithm for Efficient Data Transmission in Digital Optical Repeaters

  • Today, the demand for high-speed data communication and mobile communication has exploded. Thus, there is a growing need for optical communication systems that convert large volumes of data to optical signals and that accommodate and transmit the signals across long distances. Digital optical communication with these characteristics consists of a master unit (MU) and a slave unit (SU). However, the digital optical units that are currently commercialized or being developed transmit data without compression. Thus, digital optical communication using these units is restricted by the quantity of optical frames when adding diversity or operating with various combinations of CDMA, WCDMA, WiBro, GSM, LTE, and other mobile communication technologies. This paper suggests the application of a data compression algorithm to a digital signal processor (DSP) chip as a field programmable gate array (FPGA) and a complex programmable logic device (CPLD) of a digital optical unit to add separate optical waves or to transmit complex data without specific changes in design of the optical frame.
