서해 태안반도 연안에서 오터트롤에 채집된 저서생물의 종조성 및 계절변동 (Comparison of Species Composition and Seasonal Variation of Demersal Organisms Caught by Otter Trawl in the Coastal Waters off the Taean Peninsula, in the West Sea of Korea)

  • To investigate species composition and seasonal variation of demersal organisms in the coastal waters off the Taean peninsula, otter trawl surveys were conducted from April 2010 to January 2011. A total of 75 species were collected, including 44 species of Pisces, 19 species of Crustacea, 6 species of Cephalopoda, 4 species of Gastropoda, and 1 species each of Bivalvia and Echinoidea. The dominant species in each season were Palaemon gravieri in spring, Charybdis bimaculata in summer, Loligo japonica in autumn, and Crangon hakodatei in winter. The number of species, individuals and biomass were highest in autumn and lowest in winter. The diversity index was highest in summer and lowest in winter. The dominance index was highest in winter and lowest in summer. The richness index was highest in autumn and lowest in winter. The evenness index was highest in summer and lowest in autumn. A cluster analysis showed that demersal organisms were divided into two groups; spring and winter organisms (Group 1) and summer and autumn organisms (Group 2). We detected a significant difference (P<0.05) between these groups, mainly owing to Platycephalus indicus, Repomucenus koreanus, and Paralichthys olivaceus within Pisces: Trachysalambria curvirostris, Metapenaeopsis dalei, P. gravieri, and C. hakodatei within Crustacea: and L. japonica within Cephalopoda.

  • 강원도(江原道) 점봉산(點鳳山) 일대 중생혼효림(中生混淆林)의 식생(植生)에 대하여 Classification과 Ordination을 병행 사용한 분석법을 시도하였다. 조사 삼림내의 70개 표본구에 나타난 8종(種)의 목본식물(木本植物)의 수도(數度)를 바탕으로, Classification기법(技) 중의 하나인 Cluster 분석에 의하여 다섯 식생군(植生群)이 분류(分類)되었으며, 각 식생군(植生群) 별로 수종(樹種) 다양성(多樣性)도 비교 검토되었다. Cluster 분석이 분류한 식생군(植生群)별 교목(喬木) 수종(樹種)의 중요치(重要値)를 매개변수(媒介變數)로 하여 Principal component analysis (PCA) 한 결과로써 각 식생군별 수종(樹種) 구성(構成) 상태(狀態)의 유사성(類似性)을 비교할 수 있었다. 단풍나무, 물푸레나무, 신갈나무 그리고 고로쇠나무의 eigenvector 즉, 식생군이 ordination된 좌표(座標) 위치를 결정하는 인자(因子) 부가율(附加率)이 높게 나타남으로써, 본 연구대상 삼림(森林)에서는 이들 네가지 수종(樹種)의 분포(分布)가 삼림군의(森林群義) 분류(分類)의 핵심이라 할 수 있다.

  • In other to classify calcicoles and calcifuges and calcifuges within plant communities occurring on limestone and granite soils in chungbuk province, korea, soil propertile, constancy for species by prsence or absence, and ratios of soluble to insoluble $Ca^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$ were investigated. In the limestone soils ph values and $Ca^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$ content, ranging 7.26 ~7.48, 5.32~7.37 mg $Ca^{2+}/g$ and 0.42~0.62 mg $Mg^{2+}/g$, respectively, were higher than those in the granite soil with ph 5.76, 1.03mg $Ca^{2+}/g$ and 0.24mg $Mg^{2+}/g$. species with high constancy in the 5 communities were classified into three groups; species group a(29~36% of total number of species) was composed of species occuring on the granite soil; group c(16~24%) is commonly distributed throughout both soils. Ratios of soluble to insoluble $Ca^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$ ranged from 0.1 to 81.3 in the group a, 0.2 to 0.8 in the group b and 0.2 to 8.7 in the group c. species within each group can be divided into two groups based on the values of the ratio, below or above 1.0. consequently, each of the group a and c was classified again into two groups; the group a1 and c1 with the ratio of above 1.0 and the group a2 and c2 withbelow 1.0 but the ratio could not further subdivide the group b. from these results it was proposed that plants of the group a1 were termed as obligate calcicoles, the group b as obligate calcifuges, the group c1 as facultative calcicoles, the group c2 as facultative calcifuges and the group a2 as avoiding calcifuges.

Genetic relationships among penicillium species by characterizing RAPD markers

  • Random amplified polymorphic DAN markers were characterized for three taxonomically problematic Penicillium species : P. aurantiogriseum var. Aurantiogriseum, P. verrucosum and P. puberulum, as well as for 25 species of mono, bi-, and terverticillate Penicillia. The relationships among mono, bi-, and terverticillate Penicillium species were determined from these RAPD markers. Eight species from mono-, eight from bi-, and nine from terverticilate Penicillia were examined. With 14 randomly chosen 10-mer primes, a 310 character by 25 species matrix was generated. Phenetic analysis separated the 25 species into three genetically distinct groups that correspond to the different arrangements of penicilli (mono-, bi-, and terverticillate). The results of this study suggest that P. aurantiogriseum var. aurantiogriseum, P. VERRUCOSUM, AND P. puberulum represent genetically distinct species, and that P. vulpinum should be included in terverticilate Penicillia. Phenogram branching patterns indicated that biverticillate species are genetically more similar to monoverticilate species than they are to terverticillate species.

  • The relationships between aphids, plants, other organisms and some physical components of the environment are reviewed. Aspects considered include year cycles, polymorphism fecundity, relationship of different groups of aphids with particular groups of plants, honeydew, alarm pheromones, aposematic colouring, camouflage, colour variation within species, morphological variation within species, multivariate analysis and problems of its interpretation, parasitism, stridulating mechanisms, predators, coevolution of plants and aphids, plant galls, trapping aphids and the interpretation of trap catches, an curation of aphid collections. References are given to sources of information about aphids, with special reference to the Korean fauna.

Comparison of Virulence between Five Strains of Cryptococcus Species Complex in a Rat Model

  • Cryptococcosis, which is caused by the Cryptococcus species complex (including Cryptococcus neoformans and Cryptococcus gattii), is well known as one of the most important medical problems. However, the of the Cryptococcus species complex is still limited to pneumonia and meningitis. In particular, the differences in virulence among the five major serotypes of the Cryptococcus species complex are not fully understood. To elucidate the virulence of the Cryptococcus species complex when it is disseminated hematogenously, rats were infected by different strains of the Cryptococcus species serotype, and their histopathological characteristics were compared after infection. The cumulative mortality ratio of rats infected with serotype B strain was slightly higher than in the other experimental groups. In addition, the average recovery of the Cryptococcus species complex from rats infected with serotype B strain was significantly higher than in the other groups in almost all organ samples except spleen. The recovery of the Cryptococcus species complex was associated with the severity of histopathological lesions, including bleeding, inflammation, and tissue damage in all organs. In rats infected with serotype B strain, the virulence was the most severe, especially in the lungs and liver. These results indicate that the pathophysiology of the Cryptococcus species complex infection differs according to serotype.

제주 주변 해역에 서식하는 성대 (Chelidonichthys spinosus)의 식성 (Feeding Habits of Bluefin Searobin Chelidonichthys spinosus around Jeju Island)

  • The feeding ecology of bluefin searobin Chelidonichthys spinosus around Jeju Island was examined. Specimens were caught every autumn from 2004 to 2007. The primary prey items of C. spinosus included fish, shrimp, and crabs. Chelidonichthys spinosus preyed upon a wide range of sub-pelagic crustacean groups(e.g., Leptochela gracilis, Leptochela sydniensis). This species was also an opportunistic feeder, exploiting the available prey groups in each area(i.e., L. gracilis in the South Sea and East China Sea groups and L. gracilis and L. sydniensis in the Yellow Sea group). The main prey group of this species changed from demersal shrimp to pelagic shrimp with prey environmental changes. Observed ontogenetic shifts in diet were relatively clear despite substantial overlap between the 10 cm and 20 cm C. spinosus groups.

낙동강하류의 식물플랑크톤상과 군집구조 (Phytoplankton Flora and Community Structure in the Lower Nakdong River)

  • 본 연구는 낙동강 하류 20개 지점에 대하여 주위 환경 변화에 대응하기 위하여 식물플랑크톤상과 군집구조에 대한 조사를 실시하였다. 식물플랑크톤상과 군집은 2004년 1월부터 12월까지 매월 1회 조사하였다. 조사기간 동안 식물플랑크톤은 총 94속 196 분류군이 동정되었는데, 여름에 124분류군으로 가장 많은 종이 출현한 반면 겨울에 69분류군으로 가장 적은 종이 출현하였다. 지점별 총 출현종수는 낙동강 하구인 지점 20에서 92분류군으로 가장 많았고 지점 8에서 55분류군으로 가장 적게 출현하였다. 분류군별 출현비율은 모든 계절에서 규조류(diatoms)가 40% 이상으로 가장 높았고 녹조류(green algae)가 20%, 다음으로 남조류(blue-green algae) 등의 순으로 조사되었다. 조사기간 동안 생태적 주요종은 60 분류군이 조사되었는데, 그 중 광분포종은 46분류군, 오염지표 종 25분류군, 적조원인종 21분류군, 우점종 8분류군, 출현빈번종 7분류군이었다. 지점간 유사도지수에 의한 군집분석의 결과, 20개 지점은 4개의 그룹으로 분류되어졌다.

활어 개체어의 광대역 음향산란신호에 대한 시간-주파수 이미지의 어파인 변환과 주성분 분석을 이용한 어종식별 (Identification of Fish Species using Affine Transformation and Principal Component Analysis of Time-Frequency Images of Broadband Acoustic Echoes from Individual Live Fish)

  • Joint time-frequency images of the broadband echo signals of six fish species were obtained using the smoothed pseudo-Wigner-Ville distribution in controlled environments. Affine transformation and principal component analysis were used to obtain eigenimages that provided species-specific acoustic features for each of the six fish species. The echo images of an unknown fish species, acquired in real time and in a fully automated fashion, were identified by finding the smallest Euclidean or Mahalanobis distance between each combination of weight matrices of the test image of the fish species to be identified and of the eigenimage classes of each of six fish species in the training set. The experimental results showed that the Mahalanobis classifier performed better than the Euclidean classifier in identifying both single- and mixed-species groups of all species assessed.

  • Analysis of the characteristics and the grouping of the species of sown and weeds in artificial pastures was studied applying the principal component analysis method. Presency and coverage of six sown species and fifteen weed species which occurred in pastures of under-grazing and optimumgrazing were subject to analysis. From field survey, species were divided into three groups: the group A included five species such as Festuca arundinacea, Lolium perenne and Dactylis glomerata, etc., the group B included eleven species such as Polygonum longisetum, Agrostis alba and Rumex obtusifolius, etc., and the group C included five species such as Miscanthus sinensis, Rubus palmatus and Artemisia princeps, etc. The group A species corresponded to good pasture conditions and management. On the contrary, the group C species occurred in poor pasture conditions with inadequate management. The group B species corresponded to intermediate pasture conditions and management. Interrelated pair species co-existing and species non-co-existing were discovered. Factor loading as negative for the group A species. positive for the group C species and positive but lower than the group C species for the group B species. From these results it is concluded that the principal component analysis seems to one of the useful tools for the analysis of characteristics of species and the diagnosis of sown pasture vegetation, although further studies are required to get more general information about species characteristics.
