Recently, according to the rapid development of location positioning technology and wireless communications technology and increasement of usage of moving object data, many researches and developments on the real-time locating systems which provides real time service of moving object data stream are under proceeding. However, MO (Moving Object) DBMS used based system in the in these systems is the inefficient management of moving object data streams, and the existing DSMS (Data Stream Management System) has problems that spatio-temporal data are not handled efficiently. Therefore, in this thesis, we designed and implemented spatio-temporal DSMS for efficient real-time management of moving object data stream. This thesis implemented spatio-temporal DSMS based STREAM (STanford stREam dAta Manager) of Stanford University is supporting real-time management of moving object data stream and spatio-temproal query processing and filtering for reduce the input loading. Specifically, spatio-temporal operators of the spatio-temporal DSMS support standard interface of SQL form which extended "Simple Feature Specification for SQL" standard specifications presented by OGC for compatibility. Finally, implemented spatio-temporal DSMS in this thesis, proved the effectiveness of the system that as applied real-time monitoring areas that require real-time locating of object data stream DSMS.
Because moving objects usually move on spatial networks, efficient trajectory index structures are required to achieve good retrieval performance on their trajectories. However, there has been little research on trajectory index structures for spatial networks such as FNR-tree and MON-tree. But, because FNR-tree and MON-tree are stored by the unit of the moving object's segment, they can't support the whole moving objects' trajectory. In this paper, we propose an efficient trajectory index structure, named Trajectory of Moving objects on Network Tree(TMN Tree), for moving objects. For this, we divide moving object data into spatial and temporal attribute, and preserve moving objects' trajectory. Then, we design index structure which supports not only range query but trajectory query. In addition, we divide user queries into spatio-temporal area based trajectory query, similar-trajectory query, and k-nearest neighbor query. We propose query processing algorithms to support them. Finally, we show that our trajectory index structure outperforms existing tree structures like FNR-Tree and MON-Tree.
The trajectory preservation property that stores only one trajectory in a leaf node is the most important feature of an index structure, such as the TB-tree for retrieving object's moving paths in the spatio-temporal space. It performs well in trajectory-related queries such as navigational queries and combined queries. But, the MBR of non-leaf nodes in the TB-tree have large amounts of dead space because trajectory preservation is achieved at the sacrifice of the spatial locality of trajectories. As dead space increases, the overlap between nodes also increases, and, thus, the classical range query cost increases. We present a new split policy and entry relocation policies, which have no deterioration of the performance for trajectory-related queries, for improving the performance of range queries. To maximally reduce the dead space of a non-leaf node's MBR, the Maximal Area Reduction (MAR) policy is used as a split policy for non-leaf nodes. The entry relocation policy induces entries in non-leaf nodes to exchange each other for the purpose of reducing dead spaces in these nodes. We propose two algorithms for the entry relocation policy, and evaluate the performance studies of new algorithms comparing to the TB-tree under a varying set of spatio-temporal queries.
Recently, with the advent of applications using locations of moving objects, it becomes crucial to develop efficient index schemes for spatio-temporal databases. The $TPR^*$-tree is most popularly accepted as an index structure for processing future-time queries. In the $TPR^*$-tree, the future locations of moving objects are predicted based on the CBR(Conservative Bounding Rectangle). Since the areas predicted from CBRs tend to grow rapidly over time, CBRs thus enlarged lead to serious performance degradation in query processing. Against the problem, we propose a new method to adjust CBRs to be tight, thereby improving the performance of query processing. Our method examines whether the adjustment of a CBR is necessary when accessing a leaf node for processing a user query. Thus, it does not incur extra disk I/Os in this examination. Also, in order to make a correct decision, we devise a cost model that considers both the I/O overhead for the CBR adjustment and the performance gain in the future-time owing to the CBR adjustment. With the cost model, we can prevent unusual expansions of BRs even when updates on nodes are infrequent and also avoid unnecessary execution of the CBR adjustment. For performance evaluation, we conducted a variety of experiments. The results show that our method improves the performance of the original $TPR^*$-tree significantly.
Recently, the location-based service for moving customers is becoming one of the most important service in mobile communication area. For moving object applications, there are lots of update operations and such update loads are concentrated on some particular area unevenly. Range queries, whose range can be window or circular, are the most essential query types in LBS. We need to distinguish completely contained cells from partially contained cells in those range queries. Also, it is necessary to consider temporal dimension to filter out qualifying objects correctly. In this paper, we adopt two-level index structures with fixed grid file structures in the second level, which are designed to minimize update operations. We propose a spatial ceil filtering method using VP filtering and a combined spatio-temporal filtering method using time gone concepts. Some experimental results are shown for various window queries and circular queries with different filtering combinations to show the performance tradeoffs of the proposed methods.

Because of the rapid growth of mobile communication and wireless communication, Location-based services are handled in many applications. So, the management and analysis of spatio-temporal data are a hot issue in database research. Index structure and query processing of such contents are very important for these applications. This paper addressees algorithms that make index structure by using Douglas-Peucker Algorithm and process nearest neighbor search query efficiently on moving objects trajectories. We compare and analyze our algorithms by experiments. Our algorithms make small size of index structure and process the query more efficiently.
Moving objects have characteristics that they change continuously their positions over time. The movement of moving objects should be stored on trajectories for processing past queries. Moving objects databases need to provide spatio-temporal index for handling moving objects queries like combined queries. Combined queries consist of a range query selecting trajectories within a specific range and a trajectory query extracting to parts of the whole trajectory. Access methods showing good performance in range queries have a shortcoming that the cost of processing trajectory Queries is high. On the other hand, trajectory-based index schemes like the TB-tree are not suitable for range queries because of high overlaps between index nodes. This paper proposes new TR(Trajectory Riving)-tree which is revised for efficiently processing the combined queries. This index scheme has several features like the trajectory preservation, the increase of the capacity of leaf nodes, and the logical trajectory riving in order to reduce dead space and high overlap between bounding boxes of nodes. In our Performance study, the number of node access for combined queries in TR-tree is about 25% less than the STR-tree and the TB-tree.
The emerging notion of data stream has brought many new challenges to the research communities as a consequence of its conceptual difference with conventional concepts of just data. One typical example is data stream processing in sensor networks. The range of data processing considerations in a sensor network is very wide, from physical resource restrictions such as bandwidth, energy, and memory to the peculiarities of query processing including continuous and specific types of queries. In this paper, as one of the physical constraints in data stream processing, we consider the problem of limited memory and propose a new scheme for data stream reduction based on the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) technique. PCA can transform a number of (possibly) correlated variables into a (smaller) number of uncorrelated variables. We adapt PCA for the data stream of a sensor network assuming the cooperation of a query engine (or application) with a network base station. Our method exploits the spatio-temporal correlation among multiple measurements from different sensors. Finally, we present a new framework for data processing and describe a number of experiments under this framework. We compare our scheme with the wavelet transform and observe the effect of time stamps on the compression ratio. We report on some of the results.

LBS (Location-Based Service) systems have become a serious subject for research and development since recent rapid advances in wireless communication technologies and position measurement technologies such as global positioning system. The architecture named the GALIS (Gracefully Aging Location Information System) has been suggested which is a cluster-based distributed computing system architecture to overcome performance losses and to efficiently handle a large volume of data, at least millions. The GALIS consists of SLDS and LLDS. The SLDS manages current location information of moving objects and the LLDS manages past location information of moving objects. In this thesis, we implement a monitoring technique for the GALIS prototype, to allow dynamic load balancing among multiple computing nodes by keeping track of the load of each node in real-time during the location data management and spatio-temporal query processing. We also propose a buffering technique which efficiently manages the query results having overlapped query regions to improve query processing performance of the GALIS. The proposed scheme reduces query processing time by eliminating unnecessary query execution on the overlapped regions with the previous queries.

Also, because FNR-tree and MON-tree store the segment unit of moving objects, they can't support the trajectory of whole moving objects. For this, we divide moving object data into spatial and temporal attributes, and design an index structure which supports not only range query but trajectory query by preserving the whole trajectory of moving objects. In addition, we divide user queries into trajectory query based on spatio-temporal area and similar-tralectory query, and propose query processing algorithms to support them. The algorithm uses a signature file in order to retrieve candidate trajectories efficiently Finally, we show from our performance analysis that our trajectory index structure outperforms the existing index structures like FNR-Tree and MON-Tree.
