  • Recently, the TPR-tree has been proposed to support spatio-temporal queries for moving objects. Subsequently, various methods using the TPR-tree have been intensively studied. However, although the TPR-tree is one of the most popular access methods in spatio-temporal databases, any cost model for the TPR-tree has not yet been proposed. Existing cost models for the spatial index such as the R-tree do not accurately ostinato the number of disk accesses for spatio-temporal queries using the TPR-tree, because they do not consider the future locations of moving objects. In this paper, we propose a cost model of the TPR-tree for moving objects for the first time. Extensive experimental results show that our proposed method accurately estimates the number of disk accesses over various spatio-temporal queries.

  • This study (1) explored spatio-temporal population distribution patterns in Jeonju by using emerging hot spot analysis and (2) identified the influential factors to determine the spatio-temporal patterns by using multinomial logit model. The major findings are as follows. First, the results of emerging hot spot analysis indicated that the 100*100m grid in the urban area of Jeonju was found to have a category of hot spots, whereas most of the cold spot series was concentrated in the outskirts of the city. Also, new towns such as Jeonju Eco City, Jeonbuk Innovation City, and Hyocheon District were persistent or intensifying hot spots, Third, the results of multinomial logit model revealed that the factors influencing deterrmining the spatio-temporal patterns were accessibility to schools, hospitals, parks, and walfare services. This study offered a deeper understanding of urbanization and regional changes in Jeonju, and important information for urban planning.

  • This paper is a study on the word recognition using neural network. A limited vocabulary, speaker independent, isolated word recognition system has been built. This system recognizes isolated word without performing segmentation, phoneme identification, or dynamic time wrapping. It needs a static pattern approach to recognize a spatio-temporal pattern. The preprocessing only includes preceding and tailing silence removal, and word length determination. A LPC analysis is performed on each of 24 equally spaced frames. The PARCOR coefficients plus 3 other features from each frame is extracted. In order to simplify a structure of neural network, we composed binary code form to decrease output nodes.

  • In this paper we present and compare two different spatio-temporal decorrelation learning algorithms for updating the weights of a linear feedforward network with FIR synapses (MIMO FIR filter). Both standard gradient and the natural gradient are employed to derive the spatio-temporal decorrelation algorithms. These two algorithms are applied to multichannel blind deconvolution task and their performance is compared. The rigorous derivation of algorithms and computer simulation results are presented.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the suitable spatio-temporal analysis method considering the zoning effect of spatial analysis termed the modifiable areal unit problem(MAUP). In former studies of spatio-temporal analysis, there were disagreement between attribute data with spatial data, because of variation of administrative district aggregating attribute data. It is need to consider how the analysis zone effects spatial characteristics and spatio-temporal variation of urban region through land price variation analysis. This study considers MAUP through basic mesh system, which is composed of micro grid. Mesh system can solve disagreement of resolution between spatial data and attribute data.

  • Recently, according to the rapid development of location positioning technology and wireless communications technology and increasement of usage of moving object data, many researches and developments on the real-time locating systems which provides real time service of moving object data stream are under proceeding. However, MO (Moving Object) DBMS used based system in the in these systems is the inefficient management of moving object data streams, and the existing DSMS (Data Stream Management System) has problems that spatio-temporal data are not handled efficiently. Therefore, in this thesis, we designed and implemented spatio-temporal DSMS for efficient real-time management of moving object data stream. This thesis implemented spatio-temporal DSMS based STREAM (STanford stREam dAta Manager) of Stanford University is supporting real-time management of moving object data stream and spatio-temproal query processing and filtering for reduce the input loading. Specifically, spatio-temporal operators of the spatio-temporal DSMS support standard interface of SQL form which extended "Simple Feature Specification for SQL" standard specifications presented by OGC for compatibility. Finally, implemented spatio-temporal DSMS in this thesis, proved the effectiveness of the system that as applied real-time monitoring areas that require real-time locating of object data stream DSMS.

  • In the moving object database system, spatiotemporal join is very import operation when we process join moving objects. Processing time of spatio-temporal join operation increases by geometric progression with numbers of moving objects. Therefore efficient methods of spatio-temporal join is essential to moving object database system. In this paper, we propose spatio-temporal join algorithm with TB-Tree that preserves trajectories of moving objects, and show result of test. We first present basic algorithm, and propose cpu-time tunning algorithm and IO-time tunning algorithm. We show result of test with data set created by moving object generator tool.

  • An architectural framework is developed for integrating geospatial and temporal data with relational information from which a spatio-temporal data warehouse (STDW) system is built. In order to implement the STDW, a generic conceptual model was designed that accommodated six dimensions: spatial (map object), temporal (time), agent (contractor), management (e.g. planting) and tree species (specific species) that addressed the 'where', 'when', 'who', 'what', 'why' and 'how' (5W1H) of the STDW information, respectively. A formal algebraic notation was developed based on a triplet schema that corresponded with spatial, temporal, and relational data type objects. Spatial object structures and spatial operators (spatial selection, spatial projection, and spatial join) were defined and incorporated along with other database operators having interfaces via the generic model.

  • Radar rainfall estimates have been widely used in calculating rainfall amount approximately and predicting flood risks. The radar rainfall estimates have a number of error sources such as beam blockage and ground clutter hinder their applications to hydrological flood forecasting. Moreover, it has been reported in paper that those errors are inter-correlated spatially and temporally. Therefore, in the current study, we tested influence about spatio-temporal errors in radar rainfall estimates. Spatio-temporal errors were simulated through a stochastic simulation model, called Multivariate Autoregressive (MAR). For runoff simulation, the Nam River basin in South Korea was used with the distributed rainfall-runoff model, Vflo. The results indicated that spatio-temporal dependent errors caused much higher variations in peak discharge than spatial dependent errors. To further investigate the effect of the magnitude of time correlation among radar errors, different magnitudes of temporal correlations were employed during the rainfall-runoff simulation. The results indicated that strong correlation caused a higher variation in peak discharge. This concluded that the effects on reducing temporal and spatial correlation must be taken in addition to correcting the biases in radar rainfall estimates. Acknowledgements This research was supported by a grant from a Strategic Research Project (Development of Flood Warning and Snowfall Estimation Platform Using Hydrological Radars), which was funded by the Korea Institute of Construction Technology.
