The conceptual structural design consists of selecting structural material and form of the building, producing a preliminary dimensional layout. The information such as height of the building use, typical live load, wind velocity, design acceleration, maximum lateral deflection, span, story height is a important factor in conceptual design phase. In this case, the knowledge solutions for past similar problems cam be used in the process of defining and finding a solution to the design problems. In this paper, the conceptual structural design method using case-based reasoning which is intended to assist engineers in the conceptual phase of the structural design of tall buildings is introduced. Inductive retrieval method and nearest-neighbor retrieval method are used for selecting structural system and similar design case, respectively.

According to the cognitive science research, the interaction intent of humans can be estimated through an analysis of the representing behaviors. This paper proposes a novel methodology for reliable intention analysis of humans by applying this approach. To identify the intention, 8 behavioral features are extracted from the 4 characteristics in human-human interaction and we outline a set of core components for nonverbal behavior of humans. These nonverbal behaviors are associated with various recognition modules including multimodal sensors which have each modality with localizing sound source of the speaker in the audition part, recognizing frontal face and facial expression in the vision part, and estimating human trajectories, body pose and leaning, and hand gesture in the spatial part. As a post-processing step, temporal confidential reasoning is utilized to improve the recognition performance and integrated human model is utilized to quantitatively classify the intention from multi-dimensional cues by applying the weight factor. Thus, interactive robots can make informed engagement decision to effectively interact with multiple persons. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme works successfully between human users and a robot in human-robot interaction.
In this article we address some system characteristics and challenging issues in developing Context-aware Middleware for Ubiquitous Computing. The functionalities of a Context-aware Middleware includes gathering context data from hardware/software sensors, reasoning and inferring high-level context data, and disseminating/delivering appropriate context data to interested applications/services. The Middleware should facilitate the query, aggregation, and discovery for the contexts, as well as facilities to specify their privacy policy. Following a formal context model using ontology would enable syntactic and semantic interoperability, and knowledge sharing between different domains. Moddleware should also provide different kinds of context classification mechanical as pluggable modules, including rules written in different types of logic (first order logic, description logic, temporal/spatial logic, fuzzy logic, etc.) as well as machine-learning mechanical (supervised and unsupervised classifiers). Different mechanisms have different power, expressiveness and decidability properties, and system developers can choose the appropriate mechanism that best meets the reasoning requirements of each context. And finally, to promote the context-trigger actions in application level, it is important to provide a uniform and platform-independent interface for applications to express their need for different context data without knowing how that data is acquired. The action could involve adapting to the new environment, notifying the user, communicating with another device to exchange information, or performing any other task.

CBR (Case-Based Reasoning) is a technique to infer the relationships between existing data and case data, and the method to calculate similarity and Euclidean distance is mostly frequently being used. However, since those methods compare all the existing and case data, it also has a demerit that it takes much time for data search and filtering. Therefore, to solve this problem, various researches have been conducted. This paper suggests the method of SE(Speed Euclidean-distance) calculation that utilizes the patterns discovered in the existing process of computing similarity and Euclidean distance. Because SE calculation applies the patterns and weight found during inputting new cases and enables fast data extraction and short operation time, it can enhance computing speed for temporal or spatial restrictions and eliminate unnecessary computing operation. Through this experiment, it has been found that the proposed method improves performance in various computer environments or processing rate more efficiently than the existing method that extracts data using similarity or Euclidean method does.

In this study, assessment items to examine geocognition on plate tectonics were developed and applied to middle and high school students and college students. Conceptual constructs on plate tectonics are Earth interior structure, specific geomorphology, and geologic phenomena at each plate boundary. Construct for geocognition included temporal reasoning, spatial reasoning, retrospective reasoning, and system thinking. Pictorial data in each item were all obtained from GeoMapApp. Students' responses to the items were analyzed and measured cross-sectionally by Rasch model, which distinguishes persons' ability levels based on their scores for all items and compared them with item difficulty. By Rasch model analysis, Wright maps for middle and high school students and college students were obtained and compared with each other. Differential Item Functioning analysis was also implemented to compare students' item responses across school grades. The results showed: 1) Geocognition on plate tectonics was an assessable construct for middle and high school students in current science curriculum, 2) The most distinguished geocognition factor was spatial reasoning based on cross sectional analysis across school grades, 3) Geocognition on plate tectonics could be developed towards more sophisticated level through scaffolding of relevant instruction and earth science content knowledge, and 4) Geocognition was not a general reasoning separated from a task content but a content-specific reasoning related to the content of an assessment item. We proposed several suggestions for learning progressions for plate tectonics and national curriculum development based on the results of the study.
The goal of this study is to propose a new method to capture the qualitative person spatial behavior. Beyond tracking or indexing the change of the location of a person, the changes in the relationships between a person and its environment are considered as the main source for the formal model of this study. Specifically, this paper focuses on the movement behavior of a person near the boundary of a region. To capture the behavior of person near the boundary of regions, a new formal approach for integrating an object's scope of influence is described. Such an object, a spatio-temporally extended point (STEP), is considered here by addressing its scope of influence as potential events or interactions area in conjunction with its location. The formalism presented is based on a topological data model and introduces a 12-intersection model to represent the topological relations between a region and the STEP in 2-dimensional space. From the perspective of STEP concept, a prototype analysis results are provided by using GPS tracking data in real world.

Voronoi diagrams are powerful for solving spatial problems among particles and have been used in many disciplines of science and engineering. In particular, the Voronoi diagram of three-dimensional spheres, also called the additively-weighted Voronoi diagram, has proven its powerful capabilities for solving the spatial reasoning problems for the arrangement of atoms in both molecular biology and material sciences. In order to solve application problems, the dual structure, called the quasi-triangulation, and its derivative structure, called the beta-complex, are frequently used with the Voronoi diagram itself. However, the Voronoi diagram, the quasi-triangulation, and the beta-complexes are sometimes regarded as somewhat difficult for ordinary users to understand. This paper presents the two-dimensional counterparts of their definitions and introduce the BetaConcept program which implements the theory so that users can easily learn the powerful concept and capabilities of these constructs in a plane. The BetaConcept program was implemented in the standard C++ language with MFC and OpenGL and freely available at Voronoi Diagram Research Center (http://voronoi.hanyang.ac.kr).

For HRI (Human-Robot Interaction) in daily life, robots need to recognize non-rigid objects such as clothes and blankets. However, the recognition of non-rigid objects is challenging because of the variation of the shapes according to the places and laying manners. In this paper, the cognition of non-rigid object based on a cognitive system is presented. The characteristics of non-rigid objects are analysed in the view of HRI and referred to design a framework for the cognition of them. We adopt a linguistic cognitive system for describing all of the events happened to robots. When an event related to the non-rigid objects is occurred, the cognitive system describes the event into a sentential form and stores it at a sentential memory, and depicts the objects with a spatial model for being used as references. The cognitive system parses each sentence syntactically and semantically, in which the nouns meaning objects are connected to their models. For answering the questions of humans, sentences are retrieved by searching temporal information in the sentential memory and by spatial reasoning in a schematic imagery. Experiments show the feasibility of the cognitive system for cognizing non-rigid objects in HRI.

Recently, it has been actively Semantic Web studies for 2-dimensional data of the spatial data. 2-dimensional Semantic Web, are fused existing Geospatial Web and the Semantic Web, and integrate with the efficient cooperation of the vast non-spatial information on a variety of geospatial information and general Web, it is possible to provide it is a Web services technology of intelligent geographic information. However, in the research for multi-dimensional data processing, and in those who are missing overall, relevant standards also not been enacted. Therefore, in this paper, by applying a variety of base of the theory and technology related to this to take place the Ontology processing technology, multi-dimensional data processing is possible ontology, question, and suggested the contents of the reasoning. Also, we tried to apply what you have proposed respectively to the multi-dimensional query virtual scenario necessary.
Context-aware technologies have become the one of core technologies for intelligent urban geospatial services in ubiquitous computing environment. To provide context-aware intelligent services, various technologies including for context-aware modelling, context-aware sensing and context-aware service middleware are required. Among them, especially, ontologies are very useful for modelling, interpreting and reasoning context informations across various domains. In this research, the recent trends of context-awareness technologies and ontologies are reviewed to build a conceptual architecture for intelligent urban geospatial services. Considering it, the strategies of intelligent urban geospatial services are proposed.
