Utilizing Spatial-data to Provide for U-Service Based on U-GIS

  • According to the changes of the city's paradigm, the demand on u-City increases rapidly. u-City has been built at 54 areas in Korea (as of May 2009). One of the important determinants of success or failure in the increasing of u-City is how to provide u-Services. Most current u-Services are Sensor Network-based monitoring services to manage urban infrastructure. u-GIS is one of fundamental requirements to implement 'any time and any where' u-Service which covers the essential meaningful term "ubiquitous". Hence, in this paper, we 1) describe the definition of the spatial awareness, 2) discuss how to converge (Spatial Embedding) among different spatial data : topographic spatial data, sensor spatial data, and more, 3) bring forth an advanced form of u-Service, 4) analyze the state-of-the-art u-GIS techniques.

Development of relational river data model based on river network for multi-dimensional river information system (다차원 하천정보체계 구축을 위한 하천네트워크 기반 관계형 하천 데이터 모델 개발)

  • A vast amount of riverine spatial dataset have recently become available, which include hydrodynamic and morphological survey data by advanced instrumentations such as ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler), transect measurements obtained through building various river basic plans, riverine environmental and ecological data, optical images using UAVs, river facilities like multi-purposed weir and hydrophilic sectors. In this regard, a standardized data model has been subsequently required in order to efficiently store, manage, and share riverine spatial dataset. Given that riverine spatial dataset such as river facility, transect measurement, time-varying observed data should be synthetically managed along specified river network, conventional data model showed a tendency to maintain them individually in a form of separate layer corresponding to each theme, which can miss their spatial relationship, thereby resulting in inefficiency to derive synthetic information. Moreover, the data model had to be significantly modified to ingest newly produced data and hampered efficient searches for specific conditions. To avoid such drawbacks for layer-based data model, this research proposed a relational data model in conjunction with river network which could be a backbone to relate additional spatial dataset such as flowline, river facility, transect measurement and surveyed dataset. The new data model contains flexibility to minimize changes of its structure when it deals with any multi-dimensional river data, and assigned reach code for multiple river segments delineated from a river. To realize the newly developed data model, Seom river was applied, where geographic informations related with national and local rivers are available.

Construction and Application of POI Database with Spatial Relations Using SNS (SNS를 이용한 POI 공간관계 데이터베이스 구축과 활용)

  • Since users who search maps conduct their searching using the name they already know or is commonly called rather than formal name of a specific place, they tend to fail to find their destination. In addition, in typical web map service in terms of spatial searching of map. Location information of unintended place can be provided because when spatial searching is conducted with the vocabulary 'nearby' and 'in the vicinity', location exceeding 2 km from the current location is searched altogether as well. In this research, spatial range that human can perceive is calculated by extracting POI date with the usage of twitter data of SNS, constructing spatial relations with existing POI, which is already constructed. As a result, various place names acquired could be utilized as different names of existing POI data and it is expected that new POI data would contribute to select places for constructing POI data by utilizing to recognize places having lots of POI variation. Besides, we also expect efficient spatial searching be conducted using diverse spatial vocabulary which can be used in spatial searching and spatial range that human can perceive.

Framework of e-Government based on GIS Service Network Integrating LMIS (GIS서비스 네트워크 기반의 전자정부 프레임워크 연구 : 토지종합정보망을 중심으로)

  • This study proposes a framework of a GIS service network to connect local governments'Land Management Information Systems(LMIS) together. Databases constructed far LMIS's are very crucial information on both administrative business and civil affairs administration. However, they did not give full play to their values because they could not be shared sufficiently. Local governments build their databases individually using diverse GIS solutions. It causes some problems on sharing them. To demonstrate their geniuses, they should be connected to each other within a network for the whole country, and are served whenever and wherever to people who require them. for this, there are two main problems to be solved. Firstly, a GIS service network that handles heterogeneous and distributed computing environments is organized to link every LMIS each other by the GIS service network vertically and horizontally. Secondly, a mechanism should be developed to access the GIS service network readily and to search GIS data efficiently. The needs from every types of user should be satisfied by the mechanism. As the result of investigation of the issues, one of the most possible solution was suggested in this study, which is a Web based approach. To take into account the advance of information technology in the future and the requirements of e-government, stepwise strategies that integrate the LMIS's into a Web based system was recommended.

  • Finding exclusive closest pairs in road network is very useful to real applications such as, for example, finding a closest pair between a passenger and a nearby taxi in a road network. Few studies, however, have been interested in this problem. To match two close moving objects exclusively, one object must belong to only one result pair. Because moving objects in a road network change their position continuously, it is necessary to monitor closest pair results. In this paper, we propose a methodology to monitor k exclusive closest pairs via a road network. Proposed method only updates the results which are influenced by objects' movement. We evaluated the performance of the proposed method with various real road network data. The results show that our method produces better accuracy than normal batch processing methods.

A Method for Zoning the Parcel-based Protecting Area of the Ecological Network in Forest (지적 기반 산림생태네트워크 보호구역 설정방안)

  • The purpose of this study is to detect the protection area around the Geum-buk and Geum-nam Mountains for making a sustainable ecological network. The protection area in the Geum-buk and Geum-nam Mountains was analyzed by using spatial data and a field survey for landscape conservation purposes. A survey scope was fixed using digital elevation model, and the protection area was finally determined based on the parcel map called as the Korea Land Information System (KLIS). Here we have several conclusions in this study. First, spatial data used in this study were a map of ecological and natural degree (MEND), forest distribution map, elevation map, slope map, and several maps for the protection area assigned by laws regarding to the natural resources. Second, we used 4 alternatives to determine the best choice for showing the ecological network in the study area. One alternative (alt. 3) of 4 ones was finally chosen as the best condition for making the ecological network. The condition in elevation and slope was a little modified to a lower level in alt, 3. The result derived from alt, 3 reflected the continuity and connectivity in the ecological network and we estimate that the protection area can protect the core area using the buffer zone around the ecological network. Finally the parcel-based protection area in the Geum-buk and Geum-nam Mountains had $493.92km^2$ of the core area, and $233.99km^2$ of the buffer zone, which means the parcel-based protection area increased by $97.76km^2$ in the core area, but decreased by $76.61km^2$ as of in the topographical map.

  • According to many conceptual researches and discourses, development of information-communication technology(ICT) has made great influences upon activities on time and space. But some empirical studies have shown that its influence in the real world is not so great as we may expect In order to avoid these two oppositional views, this paper wants to put interests on socio-spatial relationships or networks, rather than individual phenomena or consciousness, which have been transformed under the influence of ICT. The development of ICT presupposes a creation of information network, and hence the term 'etwork social space' can be used to see its spatial influence, which would be further understood with the theory of actor-network. This paper also suggests that network social space has three strata, that is, 'nstant' 'unctional 'and 'aterial' and that network social space can be emphasized not only as newly emerging social space but also as reconstruction of subjects' identity through his/her participation into information network as its node.

  • In Video streaming environment, we must consider terminal and network characteristics, such as display resolution, frame rate, computational resource, network bandwidth, etc. The JVT (Joint Video Team) by ISO/IEC MPEG and ITU-TVCEG is currently standardizing Scalable Video Coding (SVC). This can represent video bitstreams in different sealable layers for flexible adaptation to terminal and network characteristics. This characteristic is very useful in video streaming applications. One fully scalable video can be extracted with specific target spatial resolution, temporal frame rate and quality level to match the requirements of terminals and networks. Besides, the extraction process is fast and consumes little computational resource, so it is possible to extract the partial video bitstream online to accommodate with changing network conditions etc. With all the advantages of SVC, we design and implement a network-adaptive SVC streaming system with an SVC extractor and a streamer to extract appropriate amounts of bitstreams to meet the required target bitrates and spatial resolutions. The proposed SVC extraction is designed to allow for flexible switching from layer to layer in SVC bitstreams online to cope with the change in network bandwidth. The extraction is made in every GOP unit. We present the implementation of our SVC streaming system with experimental results.

Human Motion Recognition Based on Spatio-temporal Convolutional Neural Network

  • Aiming at the problem of complex feature extraction and low accuracy in human action recognition, this paper proposed a network structure combining batch normalization algorithm with GoogLeNet network model. Applying Batch Normalization idea in the field of image classification to action recognition field, it improved the algorithm by normalizing the network input training sample by mini-batch. For convolutional network, RGB image was the spatial input, and stacked optical flows was the temporal input. Then, it fused the spatio-temporal networks to get the final action recognition result. It trained and evaluated the architecture on the standard video actions benchmarks of UCF101 and HMDB51, which achieved the accuracy of 93.42% and 67.82%. The results show that the improved convolutional neural network has a significant improvement in improving the recognition rate and has obvious advantages in action recognition.

  • Three-dimensional modeling of cities in the real-world is an essential task for city planning and decision-making. And many three-dimensional city models are being developed with the development of wireless Internet and location-based services that identify the location of users and provide the information increases for consumers. Especially, in case of urban areas of Korea, indoor space modeling as well as outdoor is needed due to the high-rise buildings densities. Also location-based services should be provided through spatial analysis such as the shortest path based on a space model. Many studies of three-dimensional city models are feature models. In a feature model, space is represented by combining primitives, and relationships among spaces are represented only if shared primitives are detected. So relationships between complex three-dimensional objects in space is difficult to be defined through the feature models. In this study, Navigable space-relation model(NSRM) is developed, which is topological data model for efficient representation of spatial relationships between objects based on the network structure.
