A Low-Complexity Antenna Selection Algorithm for Quadrature Spatial Modulation Systems

  • In this work, an efficient transmit antenna selection approach for the quadrature spatial modulation (QSM) systems is proposed. The conventional Euclidean distance antenna selection (EDAS)-based schemes in QSM have too high computational complexity for practical use. The proposed antenna selection algorithm is based on approximation of the EDAS decision metric employed for QSM. The elimination of imaginary parts in the decision metric enables decoupling of the approximated decision metric, which enormously reduces the complexity. The proposed method is also evaluated via simulations in terms of symbol error rate (SER) performance and compared with the conventional EDAS methods in QSM systems.

  • 본 논문에서는 케이블 TV 콘텐트를 대용량의 Wi-Fi 통신을 이용하여 전송하고, 집 안에 배치된 여러 가지의 수신기를 이용하여 콘텐트를 편하게 즐길 수 있는 서비스에 적합한 SM(spatial modulation) 전송기법의 수신 성능을 분석한다. 케이블 채널의 개수는 100가지가 넘으며 HD 이상의 화질을 가진다. 이러한 수십 개의 대용량 콘텐트를 무선으로 한정된 대역폭에 전송하기 위해서는 공간다중화 방식의 MIMO 기법이 필요하다. 그 중에서도 채널 간의 간섭이 많은 집 안 환경에 적합한 SM 전송기법은 수신 신호간의 간섭이 없으며 수신기가 간단하다는 장점을 가지고 있다. 또한 기존 SM의 낮은 대역효율을 증가시키기 위한 golden-SM 방식도 제안되었다. 그러나 실제 채널 환경에서의 기존 SM 전송기법들의 수신 성능은 비교된 것이 거의 없으므로 본 논문에서는 WiMAX(IEEE802.16a)에서 사용되고 있는 SUI 채널 모델을 고려하여 기존 SM 기법들의 수신 성능을 비교분석하였다.

  • In this paper, a new peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction method for spatial modulation(SM) is presented. By using the matrix with all non-zero elements to precode the signals before transmitting, the transmit power is scattered over all transmit antennas for achieving the goal of PAPR reduction. If this matrix is also an unitary matrix, the distribution of transmit power over transmit antennas will be uniform and it also could retain the characteristic of avoiding inter channel interference (ICI) due to the orthogonality of unitary matrix. In case of a non-ideal amplifier, the proposed method can produce a considerable improvement that increases with a number of transmit antennas in performance. Furthermore, the new scheme achieves an identical performance with conventional one in the case of ideal amplifier.

  • 본 논문은 DSTTD-SM(double space time transmit diversity with spatial-modulation)기법이 적용된 이중편파 MIMO 시스템의 수신 성능에 대하여 안테나 간 간섭 환경에서 분석하였다. 차세대 방송 시스템에서는 고품질의 영상을 전송하기 위하여 ATSC 3.0 에서 이중편파 MIMO 시스템을 채택하였다. 기존 MIMO 기법을 이중편파 MIMO 시스템에 적용하였을 때 시스템의 수신 성능에 대한 분석을 하기 위하여 본 논문에서 SM, STBC, STBC-SM 그리고 DSTTD-SM 의 수신 성능을 SUI 채널 환경에서 모의실험을 통하여 분석하였다.

Generalized Quadrature Spatial Modulation Scheme Using Antenna Grouping

  • This paper presents a novel generalized quadrature spatial modulation (GQSM) transmission scheme using antenna grouping. The proposed GQSM scheme combines QSM and conventional spatial multiplexing (SMux) techniques in order to improve the spectral efficiency (SE) of the system. Analytical and simulation results show that the proposed transmission scheme has minimal losses in terms of the average bit error probability along with the advantage of an increased SE compared with previous SM and QSM schemes. For the case studies, this advantage represents a reduction of up to 81% in terms of the number of required transmit antennas compared with QSM. In addition, a detection architecture based on the ordered successive interference cancellation scheme and the QR decomposition is presented. The proposed QRD-M adaptive algorithm showed a near-maximum-likelihood performance with a complexity reduction of approximately 90%.

  • We proposed a spatial modulation (SM) scheme to improve spectral efficiency of multi-input multi output (MIMO) systems by using double multi-strata space-time codes (D-MSSTC). For improving the performance of proposed scheme, we allocate transmit power and phase to layers in each MSSTC, and assign rotation angle to SM codebooks. Additionally, we jointly optimize power, phase and rotation angle to maximize the minimum coding gain distance of D-MSSTC-SM. It is observed that the proposed scheme shows better error performance with high spectral efficiency than conventional schemes in simulation results.

  • Recently terrestrial digital broadcasting systems have experienced a growth with the demand of high data rate. In order to meet such demand, the MIMO technology has received a wide attention. This paper proposes a pre-coding method, which provides high space channel correlation for the improved performance over terrestrial broadcasting channels when the polarized $2{\times}2$ MIMO SM is adopted for DVB-NGH systems. When signals with two different modulation orders are transmitted through two antennas, a method that is based on non-uniform power is also proposed for improved reception performance. To optimize the proposed method, phase shifting values for the pre-coding method and appropriate unequal power ratio are obtained. These obtained parameters are applied to a terrestrial broadcasting system, and then the performance improvement over the conventional SM is shown through computer simulations.

  • In this paper, we propose a gray code order of antenna index permutations for differential spatial modulation (DSM). To facilitate the implementation, the well-known Trotter-Johnson ranking and unranking algorithms are adopted, which result in similar computational complexity to the existing DSM that uses the lexicographic order. The signal-to-noise ratio gain achieved by the proposed gray code order over the lexicographic order is also analyzed and verified via simulations. Based on the gray coding framework, we further propose a diversity-enhancing scheme named intersected gray (I-gray) code order, where the permutations of active antenna indices are selected directly from the odd (or even) positions of the full permutations in the gray code order. From analysis and simulations, it is shown that the I-gray code order can harvest an additional transmit diversity order with respect to the gray code order.

A Signal Detection Method for Uplink Multiuser Systems Based on Collaborative Spatial Multiplexing (협력적 공간다중화 기반 상향링크 다중사용자 시스템을 위한 신호검출 기법)

  • The conventional detection methods developed for spatially-multiplexed MIMO systems such as OSIC and QRD-M show performance difference for each user depending on the order of detection when they are applied to detection of multi-user signals in uplink multiuser systems based on collaborative spatial multiplexing. In this paper, a signal detection method for uplink multiuser systems based on collaborative spatial multiplexing is proposed to provide similar performance for each user while its performance is close to the case of ML detection. Compared with QRD-M method, computational complexity of the proposed signal detection method is similar in the case of QPSK, and significantly lower in the case of high modulation order with 16-QAM and 64-QAM.

Performance Analysis of Space-Time Coded Spatial Multiplexing Systems with Rate Allocation and Power Control (전송률 할당 및 전력 제어를 갖는 시공간 블록 부호화한 공간 다중화 시스템의 성능 분석)

  • In this paper, we propose the transmission scheme for the space-time block coded spatial multiplexing systems that have adaptive rate and power allocation per each transmit antenna through the use of feedback information related to channel state. Simulation results show that the adaptive power and rate transmission scheme gain more than 4.5 dB over conventional equal-power and rate transmission scheme.
