The arctic tundra is an important ecosystem in terms of the organic carbon cycle and climate change, and therefore, detailed analysis of vegetation distribution patterns is required to determine their association. We used grid-sampling method and applied geostatistics to analyze spatial variability and patterns of vegetation within a two-dimensional space, and calculated the Moran's I statistics and semivariance to assess the spatial autocorrelation of vegetation. Spatially autocorrelated vegetation consisted of moss, Eriophorum vaginatum, Betula nana, and Rubus chamaemorus. Interpolation maps and cross-correlograms revealed spatial specificity of Carex aquatilis and a strong negative spatial correlation between E. vaginatum and C. aquatilis. These results suggest differences between the species in water requirements for survival in the arctic tundra. Geostatistical methods could offer valuable information for identifying the vegetation spatial distribution.

Continuous depth data are often required in applications of both onboard systems and maritime simulation. But data available are usually discrete and irregularly distributed. Based on the neuron network technique, methods of interpolation to the charted depth are suggested in this paper. Two algorithms based on Levenberg-Marquardt back-propaganda and radial-basis function networks are investigated respectively. A dynamic neuron network system is developed which satisfies both real time and mass processing applications. Using hyperbolic paraboloid and typical chart area, effectiveness of the algorithms is tested and error analysis presented. Special process in practical applications such as partition of lager areas, normalization and selection of depth contour data are also illustrated.
An adaptive wavelet transformation method with high order accuracy is proposed to allow efficient and accurate flow computations. While maintaining the original numerical accuracy of a conventional solver, the scheme offers efficient numerical procedure by using only adapted dataset. The main algorithm includes 3rd order wavelet decomposition and thresholding procedure. After the wavelet transformation, 3rd order of spatial and temporal accurate high order interpolation schemes are executed only at the points of the adapted dataset. For the other points, high order of interpolation method is utilized for residual evaluation. This high order interpolation scheme with high order adaptive wavelet transformation was applied to unsteady Euler flow computations. Through these processes, both computational efficiency and numerical accuracy are validated even in case of high order accurate unsteady flow computations.
In this paper, we propose a new super-resolution technique based on interpolation of the high-frequency subband images obtained by discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and the input image. The proposed technique uses DWT to decompose an image into different subband images. Then the high-frequency subband images and the input low-resolution image have been interpolated, followed by combining all these images to generate a new super-resolved image by using inverse DWT. The proposed technique has been tested on Lena, Elaine, Pepper, and Baboon. The quantitative peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and visual results show the superiority of the proposed technique over the conventional and state-of-art image resolution enhancement techniques. For Lena's image, the PSNR is 7.93 dB higher than the bicubic interpolation.

In this paper, we propose an error concealment technique using directional interpolation in block-based image compression. In the proposed method the edge direction is determined by finding the maximum correlation coefficients of boundary pixels of blocks neighboring the errored block in spatial domain. Then the errored block is interpolated linearly or bilinearly along the determined edge direction. The proposed method can conceal the block error, the macro block error, and the slice error adaptively. Also, the parameters for the directional interpolation are represented by closed forms. When applied to compressed images, the proposed method shows superior subjective and objective quality to conventional error concealment methods.

The estimation of missing sensor values is an important problem in sensor network applications, but the existing approaches have some limitations, such as the limitations of application scope and estimation accuracy. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a new estimation model based on a spatial-temporal correlation analysis (STCAM). STCAM can make full use of spatial and temporal correlations and can recognize whether the sensor parameters have a spatial correlation or a temporal correlation, and whether the missing sensor data are continuous. According to the recognition results, STCAM can choose one of the most suitable algorithms from among linear interpolation algorithm of temporal correlation analysis (TCA-LI), multiple regression algorithm of temporal correlation analysis (TCA-MR), spatial correlation analysis (SCA), spatial-temporal correlation analysis (STCA) to estimate the missing sensor data. STCAM was evaluated over Intel lab dataset and a traffic dataset, and the simulation experiment results show that STCAM has good estimation accuracy.

Understanding of water sediment trends is an important part of water quality monitoring. Water quality variables change over time and space, and cannot be modeled or explained clearly by either temporal or spatial analysis alone. This research analysed the trends of temperature, pH levels and dissolved oxygen levels based on the sediment records and spatial data obtained in Lower Mekong Basin (LMB) during 1985-2005. Our aim is to evaluate spatio-temporal trends and graphical analyses using an Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW) interpolation method. The main results from this research can be summarized as follows. The maximum temperature and pH have been stable during the study period and the maximum dissolved oxygen has been increasing gradually until 2002. The minimum pH and dissolved oxygen have been changing in an unsteady trend during the period. A spatial analysis shows that the water temperature in this region has been increasing over time. The pH trend shows that it is decreasing during 1993-2005. Dissolved oxygen concentration has been increasing from 1989 onwards and stays in that track.
Objectives: Spatial analysis is useful for understanding complicated causal relationships. This paper focuses trends and appling methods for spatial analysis associated with environmental asbestos exposure. Methods: Literature review and reflection of experience of authors were conducted to know academic background of spatial analysis, appling methods on epidemiology and asbestos exposure. Results: Spatial analysis based on spatial autocorrelation provides a variety of methods through which to conduct mapping, cluster analysis, diffusion, interpolation, and identification. Cause of disease occurrence can be investigated through spatial analysis. Appropriate methods can be applied according to contagiousness and continuity. Spatial analysis for asbestos exposure source is needed to study asbestos related diseases. Although a great amount of research has used spatial analysis to study exposure assessment and distribution of disease occurrence, these studies tend to focus on the construction of a thematic map without different forms of analysis. Recently, spatial analysis has been advanced by merging with web tools, mobile computing, statistical packages, social network analysis, and big data. Conclusions: Because the trend in spatial analysis has evolved from simple marking into a variety of forms of analyses, environmental researchers including asbestos exposure study are required to be aware of recent trends.

Depending upon geographical features and surrounding errors in the survey field, inaccurate positioning is inevitable in a kinematic DGPs survey. Therefore, a data inaccuracy detection algorithm and an interpolation algorithm are essential to meet the requirement of a digital map. In this study, GPS characteristics are taken into account to develop the data inaccuracy detection algorithm. Then, the data interpolation algothim is obtained, based on the feature type of the survey. A digital map for 20km of a rural highway is produced by the kinematic DGPS survey and the features of interests are lines associated with the road. Since the vertical variation of GPS data is relatively higher, the trimmed mean of vertical variation is used as criteria of the inaccuracy detection. Four cases of 0.5%, 1%, 2.5% and 5% trimmings have been experimented. Criteria of four cases are 69cm, 65cm, 61cm and 42cm, respectively. For the feature of a curved line, cublic spine interpolation is used to correct the inaccurate data. When the feature is more or less a straight line, the interpolation has been done by a linear polynomial. Difference between the actual distance and the interpolated distance are few centimeters in RMS.

Spatial data are usually obtained at selected locations even though they are potentially available at all locations in a continuous region. Moreover the monitoring locations are clustered in some regions, sparse in other regions. One important goal of spatial data analysis is to predict unknown response values at any location throughout a region of interest. Thus, an appropriate space model should be set up and their estimates and predictions must be accompanied by measures of uncertainty. In this study we see that a space model proposed allows a best interpolation to annual rainfall data in South Korea.
