The storm water management and drainage relation are the key variable that plays a vital role on hydrological design and risk analysis. These require knowledge about spatial variability over a specified area. Generally, design rainfall values are expressed from the fixed point rainfall, which is depth at a specific location. Concurrently, determine the areal rainfall amount is also very important. Therefore, a spatial rainfall interpolation (point rainfall converting to areal rainfall) can be solved by areal reduction factor (ARF) estimation. In mainland of South Korea, for dam design and its operation, public safety, other surface water projects concerned about ARF for extreme hydrological events. In spite of the long term average rainfall (2,061 mm) and increasing extreme rainfall events, ARF estimation is also essential for Jeju Island's water control structures. To meet up this purpose, five fixed rainfall stations of automatic weather stations (AWS) near the "Hancheon Stream Watershed" area has been considered and more than 50 years of high quality rainfall data have been analyzed for estimating design rainfall. The relationship approach for the 24 hour design storm is assessed based on ARF. Furthermore, this presentation will provide an outline of ARF standards that can be used to assist the decision makers and water resources engineers for other streams of Jeju Island.
Recently, as the social interest about environmental problems is increased and the importance is highlighted, the related information and the demand of information are increased. and, the Total Pollution System will be executed soon. Therefore, the information management system which can manage and analysis related information efficiently and systematically become required. Especially, the development and application of GIS which can effectively manage and analyze information using spatial data have been processing by government, private institute, and related academic institute of all over the world. also their potentiality of application have been recognizing. The main purpose of this study is to develop the stream water quality management system which can simulate future water quality using water quality model(QUAL2E) and be integrated the whole step from calculating pollutant load divided by administrative district and watershed to displaying the result of modeling visually.
This study tries to generalize the stream network by constructing rule-based modelling. A study on the map generalization tends to be concentrated on development of algorithms for modification of linear features and evaluations to the limited cartographic elements. Rule-based modelling can help to improve previous algorithms by application of generalization process with the results that analyzing mapping principles and spatial distribution patterns of geographical phenomena. Rule-based modelling can be applied to generalize various cartographic elements, and make an effective on multi-scaling mapping in the digital environments. In this research, nile-based modelling for stream network is composed of generalization rule, algorithm for centerline extraction and linear features. Before generalization, drainage pattern was analyzed by the connectivity with lake to minimize logical errors. As a result, 17 streams with centerline are extracted from 108 double-lined streams. Total length of stream networks is reduced as 17% in 1:25,000 scale, and as 29% in 1:50,000. Simoo algorithm, which is developed to generalize linear features, is compared to Douglas-Peucker(D-P) algorithm. D-P made linear features rough due to the increase of data point distance and widening of external angle. But in Simoo, linear features are smoothed with the decrease of scale.

The purpose of this study is to compare calculated pollutant loadings using pollutant load unit factors and vector type coverage, and expected mean concentration(EMC) and raster type of digital elevation model(DEM). This study is also focusing on comparison of the advantages and the disadvantages of the two methods, and seeking for a method of calculation of pollutant loadings using DEM. Estimation of pollutant inputs using pollutant load unit factors has limitations in identifying seasonal variations of pollutant loadings. Seasonal changes of runoffs should be considered in the calculation of pollutant loadings from catchments into reservoirs. Evaluation of pollutant inputs using runoff-coefficient and EMC can overcome these drawbacks. Proper EMC and runoff-coefficient values for the Koeup stream catchments of the Koheung estuarine lake were drawn from review of related papers. Arc/Info was employed to establish database of spatial and attribute data of point and non-point pollutant sources and characteristics of the catchments. ArcView was used to calculate point and non-point pollutant loadings. Pollutant loads estimated with either unit factors-coverages, i.e., pollutant load unit factors and vector coverages f point sources and land use, or EMC and digital elevation mode(DEM) were compared with stream monitoring loads. We have found that some differences were shown between monitoring results and estimated loads by Unit Factors-Coverage and EMC-DEM. Monthly variations of pollutant loads evaluated with EMC-DEM were similar to those with monitoring result. The method using EMC-DEM can calculate accumulated flows and pollutant loads and can be utilized to identify stream networks. A future research on correcting the difference between vector type stream using flow direction grid and digitalizing vector type should be conducted in order to obtain more exact calculation of pollutant loadings.

This study was carried out to analyze the monthly runoff concentration on non rainfall days in order to prepare basic data to compare the runoff concentration on rainfall days in 7 forest watersheds in the Republic of Korea. Forest stream water has been collected through 15 times of sampling in each watershed and analyzed based on the changes in concentration of Biochemical Oxygen Demand(BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand(COD), Total Organic Carbon(TOC), Total Nitrogen(TN), and Total Phosphorus(TP). The average concentration was 0.8 mg/L for BOD, 1.4 mg/L for COD, 0.8 mg/L for TOC, 1.85 mg/L for TN and 0.002 mg/L for TP during non rainfall days. Coniferous forested watersheds showed higher value of TN and TP concentration. Concentrations of BOD and TP in early March (p<0.01) were affected by melt water flow input in spring season. Significant differences (p<0.01) in concentrations were observed in BOD and TOC, indicating seasonal rainfall and vegetation growth impacts on forest stream quality. Concentration of TN and TP showed significant positive correlation, and weak negative correlation was found in the concentration of BOD and TOC. It is expected that result of forest stream water on non rainfall days could be basic information in managing non-point source from forest watersheds.

This research has a purpose to achieve experimental data used for design of ventilation systems necessary for indoor air quality control and their operation and management. For the study, spatial concentration distribution of indoor air quality according to pollutant site in a simplified model chamber. In low flow ventilation, flow pattern of indoor air was mainly influenced by diffusion and additionally, spatial distribution was formed by convection. Distribution of ventilation efficiency according to each pattern of model chamber was evaluated. It was confirmed that diffusion patterns of a pollutant among sites were formed, centering around main stream areas of supply and exhaust outlets.
The grid-based KIneMatic wave STOrm Runoff Model(Kim, 1998; Kim, et al., 1998) which predicts temporal variation and spatial distribution of saturated overland flow, subsurface flow and stream flow was evaluated at two watersheds. this model adopts the single overland flowpath algorithm and simulates surface and/or subsurface water depth at each cell by using water balance of hydrologic components. the model programmed by C-language uses ASCII-formatted map data supported by the irregular gridded map of the GRASS (Geographic Resources Analysis Support System) GIS and generates the spatial distribution maps of discharge, flow depth and soil moisture of the watershed.
