  • This study focuses on Gilbert Simondon's individuation theory, a core concept of his technological philosophy, and spatial modality in interactive space as the schema of interactive operation. The study examines spatial modality as the technology of an interaction-enabler that has archi-semiotic characteristics in the designed space by aspects of examples. They are based on ideas and properties of a combined environment and the concept of information, which form Simondon's individuation theory. In the process of technological individuation, spatial modality has the characteristics of archi-semiotics from a combined environment and information. The first of the three properties is representation through semiosis and the information surface. Second is the context by relation works and perception, and third are the symbolic aspects, which could create Placeness by meaning. Combining meaningful constructive and deconstructive spaces could result in space for interactive communication. Spatial modality makes it possible to interact with users and spaces. In fact, it could have a particular semiotic mode of address and become a semiotic and contextual base. As a basic investigation of spatial modality, this study will contribute to interactive space design research.

  • This study is aimed to improve the quality of image fusion results through shadow effects correction. For this, shadow effects correction algorithm is proposed and visual comparisons have been made to estimate the quality of image fusion results. The following four steps have been performed to improve the image fusion qualify First, the shadow regions of satellite image are precisely located. Subsequently, segmentation of context regions is manually implemented for accurate correction. Next step, to calculate correction factor we compared the context region with the same non-shadow context region. Finally, image fusion is implemented using collected images. The result presented here helps to accurately extract and interpret geo-spatial information from satellite imagery.

  • Correction of shadow effects is critical step for image interpretation and feature extraction from aerial imagery. In this paper, an efficient algorithm to correct shadow effects from aerial color imagery is presented. The following steps have been performed to remove the shadow effect. First, the shadow regions are precisely located using the solar position and the height of ground objects derived from LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) data. Subsequently, segmentation of context regions is implemented for accurate correction with existing digital map. Next step, to calculate correction factor the comparison between the context region and the same non-shadowed context region is made. Finally, corrected image is generated by correcting the shadow effect. The result presented here helps to accurately extract and interpret geo-spatial information from aerial color imagery

  • Taking note of growing tendency of academic interests and policy applications with regard to social economy, this study aims to suggest economic geographical agenda for social economy. It is presumed that the orientation of social economy toward pursuing social value will exhibit unique spatial characteristics. Elements containing spatial implications have been identified through a review of hierarchial concepts including social innovation, social economy organization and social enterprise. Three approached are suggested as tools of understanding the spatial context of social economy: spatial characteristics inspiring social entrepreneurship, place-based context of decision-making by social economy organizations, and spaces formulated by interactions between the demand for solving social problems and the supply of economic resources. The investigation of social innovation clusters is required to focus on the differentiated characteristics from normal industrial clusters. It is also suggested that the concept of embeddedness be applied in the search of the essence and elements of social economy's ties with local community.

  • This paper is to consider the developmental process of Korean geography on the context of socio-spatial transformations of Korea, and then to suggest briefly its alternative visions. The development of knowledge including geography seems to be made under imperatives of social functions and structure in a given period, and knowledge in turn gives power for a further development of society. Modem geography in Korea has progressed on the context of capitalist development of Korean society which can be divided into two phases, that is, the period of developmentalism and that of neoliberalism. Korean geography has been developed under influence of ideologies of developmentalism and neoliberalism, and in turn has made some contributions to socio-spatial policies. Korean geography in the future, it can be suggested, should go beyond both developmentalism and neoliberalism, and put socio-spatial welfare, civil society or community, and environmental justice into its central issues.

  • To create dynamic and bustling urban environments, a diverse array of commercial facilities is indispensable. These facilities are recognised as pivotal in attracting and accommodating a larger floating population, thereby suggesting that a greater diversity of commercial establishments fosters heightened consumer expenditure. With this premise, our study endeavours to explore the influence of commercial facility diversity on the Consumer Centre Index. Focused on the temporal context of 2021 and the spatial context of Seoul, our analysis utilizes the Consumer Centre Index, derived from Kernel Density analysis, as the dependent variable. Independent variables encompass factors reflecting commercial attributes and urban characteristics. Employing spatial regression analysis at the administrative district level, we discern that the clustering of similar industries exerts a more pronounced positive effect on consumer activation compared to the clustering of disparate industries. Additionally, the findings underscore the importance of concentrating industries that bolster consumer activation. Anticipated outcomes of this study include insights beneficial for optimizing commercial facility location policies within the consumer market.

  • Context-aware computing is an emerging paradigm to achieve ubiquitous computing environments by enabling computer systems to understand their situational contexts. A context-aware system uses context to provide relevant information and services to the user depending on the user's task. In this paper, we propose an ontology-based context-aware modeling methodology that transmits low-level contexts acquired by directly accessing various sensors in the physical environments to high-level contexts. With these high-level contexts, context-aware application can provides proactive and intelligent services using ECA (Event-Condition-Action) rules. We implemented a home robot service in smart office environment.

  • Activation of conventional market in small town is important in the reinvigoration of local economy as an economical center. The revitalization of local economy is closely related to the fosterage of conventional market. So the local government is trying to activate the market. However, the projects for the activation of conventional market are mostly centered on the modernization of facilities which is carried out at urban districts. Those facilities-centered plans, being carried out at urban district, lack the consideration of the peculiarities of rural districts and the regional conditions of the conventional market in small towns. And some projects for the modernization of facilities produce negative results. Especially the conventional market in small town shows a spatial structure of a five-day market and a market place and it was influenced by the spatial relationship between the permanent market and periodic market. So analyses on the spatial lay-out and form, store facilities, spatial distribution of types of business, spatial utilization on market place are needed to improve the physical environment of the conventional market. In this context, the study analyzed systematically the space of an old and lagged Hongseong conventional market located in central district of a small town. And It is expected that the results use as a basic data to establish effective space improvement plan for conventional market in small town.

  • User and media are in close coalition with each other in the 21st century's era of New-Media. The new users exposed to the New-Media environment have a complete understanding of the digital media environment, and are also taking on the role of an active identity in the formation of culture in new media. In the field of spatial design, creative spatial interfaces designed through various methods derived from the New-Media environment and technology that weren't even imaginable in the past ultimately came to exist in a mutual relationship with the user, the people. This study is in the same context as studies looking into the establishment of design in media art and digital media space in the New-Media environment. Media art is an outcome arising from the demand towards new art combined with the attempts towards accepting various media as a means for artistic expression. Media art seizes to being a mere part of art, but more. This study aims to look into the theoretical basis of New-Media and define the design process through the expressional characteristics and triggered thoughts thereof. Lastly, the results of the research will be put together to produce the final results. Such analysis process will be the basis of the creation of a new paradigm and spatial thought, and allow people to be concerned about the various changes in spatial formation.
