  • Genetic Algorithms (GAs) have found the best design for reinforced concrete frames. The design of the optimum beam sections by GAs has been unified. The process of the optimum-design sections has satisfied axial, flexural, shear and torsion necessities based on the designing code. The frames' function has contained the function of both concrete and reinforced steel besides the function of the frames' formwork. The results have revealed that limiting the dimension of frame-beam with the dimension of frame-column have increased the optimum function of the structure, thereby reducing the reanalysis requirement for checking the optimum-designed structures through GAs.

  • A convolutional neural network(CNN) is widely used in the computer vision tasks, but its computing power requirement needs a design of a special circuit. Most of the computations in a CNN can be implemented efficiently in a digital circuit, but the SoftMax layer has operations unsuitable for circuit implementation, which are exponential and logarithmic functions. This paper proposes a new method to integrate the exponential and logarithmic tables of the conventional circuits into a single table. The proposed structure accesses a look-up table (LUT) only with a few maximum values, and the LUT has the result value directly. Our proposed method significantly reduces the space complexity of the SoftMax layer circuit implementation. But our resulting circuit is comparable to the original baseline with small degradation in precision.

  • In the IoT environment, there is a huge amount of heterogeneous devices with limited capacity. Existing trust evaluation methods are not adequate to accommodate this requirement due to the limited storage space and computational resources. In addition, since IoT devices are mainly human operated devices, the trust evaluation should reflect the social relations among device owners. There is also a need for a mechanism that reflects the tendency of the trustor and environmental factors. In this paper, we propose an adaptable trust evaluation method for SOA-based IoT system to deal with these issues. The proposed model is designed to minimize the confidence bias and to dynamically respond to environmental changes by combining direct evaluation and indirect evaluation. It is expected that it will be possible to secure trust through quantitative evaluation by providing feedback based on social relationships.

  • This paper presents preliminary design and performance analysis of a fast and high precision Tracking Mount for 1m Satellite Laser Ranging(SLR) which is development by Korea Astronomy and Space science Institute(KASI). SLR is considered to be the most accurate technique currently available for the precise orbit determination of Earth satellites. The SLR technique measures the time of flight between pulses emitted from laser transmitter and pulses returned from satellites with laser retro-reflector array. It provides millimeter level precision of range measurements between SLR stations and satellites. A fast and high precision Tracking Mount for SLR which is proposed in this research should be capable of day and nighttime laser tracking about the satellites with laser reflectors from 200 km to 36,000 km altitude(geosynchronous orbit). In order to meet this requirement, we performed mechanical design and structural analysis for Tracking Mount. Also we designed the motion control system and conducted pre-performance analysis to obtain good performance results for a fast and high precision Tracking Mount.

  • In this paper, we analyze and simulate the performance of a tactics mobile communication system based on ultra wide band (UWB) in multi-user interference (MUI) environments. This system adopts a double binary turbo code for forward error correction (FEC). Wireless channel is modeled a modified Saleh and Valenzuela (SV) model. We employ a space time block coding (STBC) scheme for enhancing system performance. System performance is evaluated in terms of bit error probability. From the simulation results, it is confirmed that the tactics mobile communication system based on UWB, which is encoded with the double binary turbo code, can achieve a remarkable coding gain with reasonable encoding and decoding complexity in multi-user interference environments. It is also known that the bit error probability performance of the tactics mobile communication system based on UWB can be substantially improved by increasing the number of iterations in the decoding process for a fixed cod rate. Besides, we can demonstrate that the double binary turbo coding scheme is very effective for increasing the number of simultaneous users for a given bit error probability requirement.

  • When triangular meshes are generated from the point clouds in global space reconstructed through camera pose estimation against captured RGB-D streams, the quality of the resulting meshes improves as more triangles are hired. However, for 3D reconstructed models beyond some size threshold, they become to suffer from the ugly-looking artefacts due to the insufficient precision of RGB-D sensors as well as significant burdens in memory requirement and rendering cost. In this paper, for the generation of 3D models appropriate for real-time applications, we propose an effective technique that extracts high-quality textures for moderate-sized meshes from the captured colors associated with the reconstructed point sets. In particular, we show that via a simple method based on the mapping between the 3D global space resulting from the camera pose estimation and the 2D texture space, textures can be generated effectively for the 3D models reconstructed from captured RGB-D image streams.

  • A two-axis gimbal-type X-band antenna for CAS(Compact Advanced Satellite) transmits large amount of image data to ground station regardless of satellite attitude and orbital motion. This antenna mounted on the external surface of the satellite is directly exposed to the extreme space with thermal environment during the orbital operation. Therefore, a proper thermal design is needed to maintain the antenna itself as well as other main components within allowable temperature range. In this study, the thermal design effectiveness of two-axis gimbal X-band antenna was verified through the thermal analysis. In addition, required power and duty cycle of heater were estimated through the thermal analysis under conditions of system level thermal vacuum test and on-orbit thermal environment. The thermal analysis results indicated that all the main components of X-band antenna satisfy the allowable temperature requirement.

  • In spacecraft system, structure subsystem has the mission of supporting all the components safely under various space environmental conditions. The safety of spacecraft structure is finally verified from the coupled load analysis, which is a branch of load analysis which combines the launch vehicle and satellite. This study introduces the optimization algorithm to reduce the weight of spacecraft structure under launch environmental conditions directly. The acceleration responses are obtained by the introduction of coupled load analysis, which lead to check the failure of spacecraft structural members. The results show a 12% saving of structural weight and this saving is mainly driven by the thickness of honeycomb core, which strongly affects the natural frequencies of platforms and panels.

  • A program of launch vehicle performance analysis is composed for the education of the conceptual design of launch vehicles and the requirement analysis for the propulsion system design. The program is applied for the mission analysis of space launch vehicles based on KSLV-II with liquid rocket boosters. The 75-ton class liquid rocket engine is assumed for the boosters by referring the mass ratio of KSLV-II second stage. The launch performance analysis is carried out for KSLV-II with 2, 3 and 4 boosters by targeting the circular orbit of 700 km altitude. The trajectory is assumed as two-dimension considering the variation of the flight environment. Payload of advanced KSLV-II could be increased to maximum 3 tons, though it is limited by the thrust performance of the upper stage.
