  • Upon changing architectural education system into 5-year program, the design studio in university should meet the requirement in order to acquire the accredition. This study investigates on student' perceptions and responses, according to the configuration(open, mixed, closed), to their studio environment. Results and suggestions are as follows for all types: First, there should be space for individual activities for the student: Second, excluding space for excluding space for the individual work, seperated area must be provided for co-operative work, such as making models; Third, a clear territorial distintion between the individual and the co-work space should be able to set by the students, using. for instance, movable partition or corridor; Fourth, however, in line with the types, a seperated lecture or seminar room in the open type, a device to prevent distraction such as noise in the mixed type, and more space for co-work in the closed type are also suggested.

  • A range-sum query is very popular and becomes important in finding trends and in discovering relationships between attributes in diverse database applications. It sums over the selected cells of an OLAP data cube where target cells are decided by specified query ranges. The direct method to access the data cube itself forces too many cells to be accessed, therefore it incurs severe overheads. The prefix-sum cube was proposed for the efficient processing of range-sum queries in OLAP environments. However, the prefix-sum cube has been criticized due to its space requirement. In this paper, we propose a lossless compression method called the overlapped-subcube that is developed for the purpose of compressing prefix-sum cubes. A distinguished feature of the overlapped-subcube is that searches can be done without decompressing. The overlapped-subcube reduces the space requirement for storing prefix-sum cubes, and improves the query performance.

  • In this study, a combined hybrid rocket system is newly introduced which has characteristics of both gas generators and afterburner type hybrid rockets. In particular, a combined gas generator utilizing solid fuel and liquid/gas oxidizer was designed as a primary combustor of the system. Combustion tests were carried out with various equivalence ratio affected by parameters such as fuel length, oxidizer flow rate, fuel port diameter and fuel type. In general, fuel-rich gas generator produces low combustion gas temperature to meet the temperature requirement and the target temperature was transiently set less than 1600 K. Since it was found that controlling parameters showed limited effects on the change of equivalence ratio, mixture of $O_2$ and $N_2$ as an oxidizer was additionally introduced. As a result, a combined gas generator successfully produced combustion gas temperature of less than 1600 K Future studies will carry out more combustion tests to attain fuel-rich combustion gas temperature less than 1200 K, which was a temperature requirement of a gas generator system in the previous studies.

  • Future mobile communication networks, which consist of ATM-based B-ISDN backbone networks and wireless ATM networks, will provide u user with broadband connection and QoS service. These network systems need the lossless handoff methods which support user mobility, satisfy ATM features such as ATM cell ordering and no ATM cell duplication and minimize buffer requirement for ATM cell buffering. In this paper we suggest a multicast-based handoff method to supp$\alpha$t lossless connection as well as to minimize buffer overhead. It establishes a dynamic multicast connection between source terminal and wireless member AP (access point)s. When the mobile terminal receives data packet correctly, it notifies the positive acknowledgement of the packet to all member APs. And member APs then release the MT related temporary buffer space for MT's future movement. Therefore member APs can eliminate unnecessary buffer usage and manage the buffer space efficiently. Analysis result shows that our handoff method has better performance in buffer requirement for lossless and seamless connection services over VCT (virtual connection tree) method and other dynamic multicast-based handoff methods.

  • The fuel transfer characteristics of the jet pump between fuel tanks, which is applied in the smart UAV fuel supply system, were experimentally investigated. The operating conditions of the jet pump were setup to meet the engine requirement according to mission profile, and the jet pump performance was evaluated at those conditions. The pressure ratio and the efficiency of the jet pump were measured with the variation of flow ratio. In addition, the area ratio was taken into the consideration to examine the effect on the jet pump performance. From the evaluation results, the jet pump met the fundamental requirement to transfer fuel with the flow ratio of 2.23. In the case of the jet pump that is focused on the fuel transfer quantity rather than its efficiency, the flow ratio would be adjusted through the variation of area ratio of the jet pump within the permitted limit of pressure ratio.

  • A lateral type MEMS inertial switch was designed on the same principle as spring-mass system. The MEMS switch is used for arming mechanism of the arm-fire device by sensing the applied acceleration. We analyzed the switching capability of the MEMS switch under various acceleration conditions via performance model. Simulation results showed that the MEMS switch works very well at 10 g when the applied acceleration slope does not exceed 10 g/msec. On the other hand, the threshold operating acceleration level simulation exceeded the requirement (10±2 g) due to the width and length of the spring by considering 10% tolerance of the design values. Design modification of doubling the width of the spring, which is difficult to reduce less than 10% tolerance in fabrication process, was proposed after confirming the simulation results comply the requirement.

  • Reliable wireless transmission of data generated by the flight critical subsystems or mission equipments of the unmanned aerial system is critical for mission success. As the UAS system becomes more sophisticated, its dependency on a reliable high rate radio communication system also increases. This requirement is applied not only during the operation phase but also in the early development test phase. This paper introduces a practical cost-effective communication system for a UAS. The downlink module combines analog NTSC video signal with onboard data, and send them using 2.4 GHz carrier wave. The uplink system has less a severe requirement on the bandwidth, and thus uses 430 MHz signal. This paper also presents a sample packet structure which can be adopted for many UAS of similar class.

  • In recent years, the objective information for the environmental effect of architecture will be furnished to the designer and inhabitant in order to minimize an excessive energy consumption and environmental loads by buildings. In addition, an environmental friendly architectural certification program for a residence, office, and school facilities have been operated to spread and supply environmental friendly architecture. Most of the environmental friendly architectural certification programs proposed in the country are focused on the aspect of the physical environments of architecture in its certification ranges. In the case of a foreign country, however, the certification ranges of an environmental friendly architectural certification program for the school facilities among the programs will be extended not only to the standards for architectural design, environmental aspect, and maintaining and management basis by considering the characteristics of educational effects for students but also to the curriculum, policy of environment, and roles of local community facilities by reflecting a social aspect. Therefore, this study proposes a design and evaluation method by considering an ecological element that will satisfy the requirement for educational well-being that includes not only the requirement for school facilities according to the development of a new curriculum like a space for teaching and learning but also the improvement of the quality of educational environments and the objective of an ecological school.

  • According to the requirement of Res.MSC.285(86) for natural gas-fueled engine installations in ships, pump and compressor rooms should be fitted with effective mechanical ventilation system of the under pressure type, providing a ventilation capacity of at least 30 air changes per hour. It generally considered that gas leakage is more likely from a Fueled Gas Supply System(FGS) room as compared to other places, where installed in many kind of machinery or equipments like gas supply high-pressure pipes, valves, flanges and etc. Furthermore, leaked gas may be dispersed in a short time in an enclosed space, especially a FGS room, due to high pressure. However, the present requirement in Res.MSC.285(86) just considers the ventilating capacity of air changes per hour but the capacity of leaked gas. Hence, the current requirements may not meet effectively when enforcing the new propulsion systems as marine fuel. This study is conducted for the purpose of safety evaluation about the dispersion and ventilation efficiency with estimated leakage scenario. Numerical analysis predictions as the result of this paper are explained to know the features of flow pattern and the diffusion of natural gas concentration.

  • As integrated circuits become more complex, the number of I/O connections per chip grow. Conventional wire-bonding, lead-frame mounting techniques are unable to keep up. The space saved by shrinking die size is lost when the die is packaged in a huge device with hundreds of leads. The solution is bumps; gold, conductive adhesive, but most importantly solder bumps. Virtually every semiconductor manufacturer in the world is using or planning to use bump technology fur their larger and more complex devices. Several wafer-bumping processes used in the manufacture of bumped wafer. Some of the more popular techniques are evaporative, stencil or screen printing, electroplating, electrodes nickel, solder jetting, stud bumping, decal transfer, punch and die, solder injection or extrusion, tacky dot process and ball placement. This paper will discuss the process steps for bumping wafers using these techniques. Critical cleaning is a requirement for each of these processes. Key contaminants that require removal are photoresist and flux residue. Removal of these contaminants requires wet processes, which will not attack, wafer metallization or passivation. research has focused on enhanced cleaning solutions that meet this critical cleaning requirement. Process parameters defining time, temperature, solvency and impingement energy required to solvate and remove residues from bumped wafers will be presented herein.
