Double cropping system including paddy field soybean is widely adopted nationwide, due to rise in market price and its higher income than paddy field rice. Sowing date of soybean as a second crop is being delayed depending on first crop's growth period and harvesting time. Due to the increased temperature in October and delayed first frost date, soybean could be harvested without frost damage even in late-plating. Therefore, selection of soybean cultivar which is appropriate for this environment is very important. The effect of sowing date and genotype of soybean on growth and yield was investigated for three planting dates (June 20, July 5, and July 20) with ten cultivars developed for soy-pate production, to figure out plant development and yield pattern in delayed planting. As planting date is delayed, plant height and pod number was decreased and this pattern was more clearly detected in mid-late maturity cultivars. Hundred-seed weight did not show significant changes even in late planting, due to compensations between yield components. Yield reduction of July 20 in contrast to that of June 20 showed that Nampung (9.6%) showed the least yield decline. Maximum yield was achieved from Daepung, Taekwang, and Uram among other soybean cultivars in late planting. Shortening of growth period was strongly detected in reproductive stage while length of vegetative stage was regularly maintained in both early and mid-late maturity cultivars.
Soybean produces three major types of isoflavones, daidzein, genistein, and glycitein aglycones and their glucosides and malonylglucosides. It has been known that malonylated glucosides are rapidly converted to their corresponding aglycones due to the unstable thermolabile glucoside malonates; therefore, the analytical study of malonylated glucosides has been insufficient. In this study, we analyzed the malonylglucoside content in soybean seeds. Isoflavone analysis of three soybean cultivars revealed that 81.5~90.0% of the total isoflavones were malonylglucosides, whereas aglycones were rarely detected. Moreover, the total isoflavone content increased during a 5-day germination period where growth regulators and coumaric acid treatments tended to yield higher isoflavone content than the normal germination treatment, however the differences were not significant; notably, the isoflavone accumulation trend continued with additional germination days. The content of malonylglucoside was higher than that of other isoflavones, which was 83.7~86.6% of the total isoflavone content in seeds with a 3-day germination period. Furthermore, isoflavones were significantly accumulated in the hypocotyl of seedlings with a 5-day germination period. The content of isoflavone in the hypocotyl of the Pungsannamul-kong was 10,240 ug/g when treated with coumaric acid, which was considerably higher than that of other cultivars and treatments. Additionally, soybean seeds heated at $60^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour produced higher isoflavone content than non-heated soybean seeds. Our results show that it is possible to increase the isoflavone content in soybean seeds through various treatments.
1. IAA showed no significant growth of root primordia and then lateral root emerged at 2 days after IAA treatment. BA treatment, however, strongly inhibited the formation of root primordia and a few lateral roots, if any, emerged about 5 days after treatment. 2. Treatment of BA and Indol-B on the water retaining ability sampled 1, 3, 5 days after chemical treatment was apparent on the soybean sprouts sampled 5 days after treatment while the difference among the treatments was negligible when sampled 1 and 3 days after treatment. 3. BA stimulated ABA content in the hypocotyl while inhibited ABA content in the root of soybean sprouts. ABA may relate with water retaining ability. 4. Soaking the soybean seeds to several seed disinfectant chemical solution had no effect on the growth and elongation of soybean sprouts. 5. It can be recommended that container of soybean sprouts should be shut tight during growing period except irrigation because the ethylene accumulation in the container may stimulate hypocotyl swelling and inhibit length of soybean sprouts.
This study was conducted to find on the screening of a optimal variety after compare with characteristics of a colored soybean recommended and a vegetable soybean by pure line isolation from the indigenous variety in Chungnam area. The budding period in results compared with a budding property of testing varieties between the recommended colored soybean 6 varieties and the indigenous 3 varieties, was showed that it was delayed by increasing of a grain weight but the budding rate was not significant. And the harvest period was the most early day at the black colored soybean plot at the 30th July and was the latest day at the native variety (Nonsan jaerae) at the 21 th October. The stem length was showed a wide range from 25 to 104 cm, and the Asan jaerae in this result was the highest on 104 cm, but the Geomjeongolkong was the lowest on 25 cm. The number of pod per plant was searched about 9 to 111 range, and the most numerous plot in this experimental varieties was the Ilpumgeomjeongkong as 111 number, on the other hand, the least variety was the Asan jaerae as 9 number. The rate of more than 2 seed per pod in the vegetable soybean property was the highest at the Geomjeongolkong about 82%. Additionally, the Hwangkuemkong and Geomjeongkong 1 was relatively the high levels as 78% and 73%, respectively. At the pod yield per $1000\;m^2$ (10a) was the most much as 1,567 kg at the Ilpumgeomjeongkong. Also, the Sunheukkong and the Galmikong was 1,468 kg, 1,397 kg, respectively. Therefore, the Ilpumgeomjeongkong, Sunheukkong, and Galmikong were proper varieties for the vegetable cultivation.
In the present study, different expression of protein from Taekwang was revealed by 2-DE, and expressions of protein on each week after flowering was investigated. After analysis of expression of protein, MALDI-TOF was executed to identify expected protein function. Results revealed that there were three patterns of expression of protein during the maturing. The first pattern was that proteins were gradually expressed as up-regulation from 1 week to 6 week. The second pattern was that proteins were expressed gradually from 1 week to 5 week and then it started down-regulation in 6 week. The last pattern was that proteins were gradually as up-regulation from 1 week to 3 week and then down-regulation until 6 week. This phenomenon suggests that young stage has more protein related to correspondence mechanism against disease and growth and then maturing stage has more expression of protein related to storage protein. In MALDI-TOF analysis, p24 oleosin isoform A protein was identified that relates oleosin which is synthetic product in oil body. This protein spot increased gradually until 5 week and then decreased after 5 week. It explained that the protein is active until maturing stage to protect oil in seed and then its activity has gradually degraded. This result may be expected that a protein, related to growth of a seed has increased until maturing and then a seed fills up with a storage protein.
Six soybean cultivars were used to study their seed development and germinability after flowering, in 1977 and 1978. The earlier varieties showed the faster seed development, but indeterminate types resulted in slower development. The earliest germinability was found in 15 to 25 days after flowering when dried with the pod shell. The germination of the seeds dried without pod shell, however, was inhibited significantly in early seed filling stages. Regular germinability of the Hill cultivar in a cold test was 40-45 days after flowering, or 10 to 15 days earlier than the physiological maturity.
In order to evaluate an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) for practical use in detecting aflatoxin $B_1(AFB_1)$ from cereals, we compared $AFB_1$ concentrations of samples contaminated artificially or naturally that were quantitated by the ELISA with those spiked or quantitated by HPLC. Cotton seed meals(19 items), rape seed meals(ll), soybean meals(9), and corns(3) imported from foreign countries were used as sample cereals. The standard curves of each cereal class showed that 1-100 ng/g of $AFB_1$ from cereals could be assayed by the ELISA. When artificially contaminated cereals were assayed by ELISA, the average recovery of AFB! from samples spiked to 3 ng/g and more was 138%(68-193%), although that spiked to 1 ng/g was somewhat high(268%). The average C.V. of recovery was 7.0%(0-22.2%). When naturally contaminated cereals were assayed, the concentrations of $AFB_1$ below 10 ng/g especially from rape seed meals quantitated by ELISA were much lower than those determined by HPLC. However, the concentrations of 10 ng/g and more from samples, except a few extraordinary samples. quantitated by ELISA were similar to those determined by HPLC, especially in case of cotton seed meals whose average recovery (ELISA/HPLC) was 153%. In conclusion, the ELISA was elucidated such as a practical tool to detect $AFB_1$ of 10 ng/g and more from cereals.
In order to investigate an etiological characteristics of the pepper anthracnose fungus infected with Collectotrichum dematium, this experiment was undertaken. Isolation percent of the fungus was 55.3% from the seed sample of Jewon and 0.3% from that of Eumsung Kun, according to seed health blotter method. Although the acervulus was similar to the known two Colletotricum species, C. acutatum and C. gloeosporioides, setae was not only straightly extended above the acervulus, but also shaped as falcate conidia ranging $12{\sim}31.2{\times}2.4{\sim}4.8{\mu}m$. Acervului of the fungus were evenly scattered on the surface of pepper seed coat, and caused seedling blight after seed germination. Pre-and post-emergence seedling blight as well as foliar lesion and fruit rot was confirmed by inoculating conidial suspension. No typical anthracnose sysmptom was obtained from soybean seedlings, welsch onion and spinach seedlings upon inoculation. Therefore, this fungus is said to the undescribed form species of the fungus of pepper in Korea (Colletotricum dematium f. sp. capsicum).

Experiments were conducted to find out the possibilities of producing good quality seed of summer type soybean at Chuncheon, 74m above sea level and Jinboo, 600m above sea level in 1987. Local variety, Cheonan Jaelae was used. Seeds were sown June 25 harvested five times from 35 days after flowering with five days interval to 55 days. Vegetative period was longer in the early planting and high cool area, Jinboo, which resulted longer stem length than the late planting and in the plain area, Chuncheon. Pod number and 100 grain weight were shown more and heavier in Jinboo. Earlier planting and later harvesting resulted more pod number and heaveier 100grain weight. Grain yield was heigher in Jinboo, and earlier plainting shown more grain yield and its difference was greater in Jinboo. Long grain filling duration resulted more grain yield. Unripened seeds were produced more by earlier planting with earlier harvesting and earlier planting with late harvesting showed the high rates of pod and stem blight (Diaporthe Phaseolorum). Seed With high moisture content by early harvesting showed more rotten seeds in all planting dates production was more advantageous in the high cool area, Jinboo. Optimum planting date was between May 15 and June 5. Harvesting was desirable about 45-50 days after flowering with heigher germination rate seed yield.

The phenolic contents in soybean seeds are affected by genetic and environmental factors. In the present study, 24 black soybeans and a control variety were grown in Korea and grouped as small (<13 g), medium (13 - 24.0 g), and large (>24 g) based on their seed weight. The total phenolic content (TPC) and antioxidant activities were analyzed and compared with their seed weight. The TPC was in the ranges 2.016 - 5.535, 1.992 - 4.679, and 1.829 - 4.621 mg GAE/g in small, medium, and large seeds with an average of 3.824, 3.108, and 3.626 mg GAE/g, respectively. The FRAP and DPPH activities were in the ranges 4.327 - 6.394 and 0.354 - 0.403 mg AAE/g in small seeds, 2.510 - 6.147 and 0.356 - 0.417 mg AAE/g in medium seeds, and 3.024 - 6.389 and 0.344 - 0.405 mg AAE/g in large seeds, respectively. Besides, ABTS activity was in the ranges 4.833 - 4.967, 3.636 - 4.871, and 4.554 - 4.956 mg TE/g in small, medium, and large seeds, respectively. Small seeds had the highest average FRAP (5.498 mg AAE/g) and ABTS (4.902 mg TE/g) activities while large seeds showed the highest average DPPH (0.387 mg AAE/g) activity although the variations were not significant (p > 0.05). TPC showed positive correlation with every antioxidant activity. However, the TPC correlation was significant (p < 0.05) only with DPPH (r = 0.673). Overall, small seeds presented a relatively high TPC and maximum antioxidant activities. Hence, black soybeans with small seeds could be important sources of high phenolic concentration and provide improved health benefits.
