The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristic changes of the Changma season in the 2000s. To accomplish this goal, we have used daily rainfall data collected over nearly 40 years (1971 to 2010). The average summer precipitation data including the Changma season were collected from 16 weather stations that are placed across the three major regions (i.e. central region, southern region, and Jeju region) as Korea Meteorological Administration divided. These precipitation data were analyzed to find out characteristic changes of the Changma season. Results of the precipitation data comparison among the major regions that, monthly average precipitation in the central region was the highest in July; its precipitation tended to increase from May to September. In the southern region, the precipitation amount was lowest in June and tended to increase in May, September, and August. In the Jeju region, the precipitation has been the highest in June and July for the past 30 years, whereas September has been highest month in the last 10 years. The precipitation amount in the Jeju region decreased both in June and July, whereas it tended to grow in May, August and September. A correlation coefficient formula by Karl Pearson has been used to find out correlations between the Changma season and the precipitation of the major regions in 2000s and normal years. It was found that the correlation coefficient has decreased from 0.723 to 0.524 in the 2000s (2001 to 2010) compared to normal years (1971 to 2000).
This paper is aimed to study the late Neolithic Age in North Korea in order to closely examine a transition process into the Bronze Age in the Korean peninsula. Thus, the pottery with lightning design was selected as target data. Since the pottery with lightning design is fundamental data that North Korea's archeologists have used for chronological recordings of the late Neolithic Age in the northwest region, the parallel relationship between the eastern and the western region was established with comparison of pottery with lightning design in the northeastern region. The examination focuses on data that cover the target region of the pottery with lightning design of the adjacent Southern Primorskii region including the counterpart of the northwestern and the northeastern region. As a result, some attribute analyses revealed that the pottery with lightning design was affected by the counterpart of the northwestern region near the Yalu River. Prior to genealogical and chronological recordings of the pottery with lightning design in the northeastern region, the pottery with lightning design in the northwestern region was recorded chronologically in order to examine its specific development process. Consequently, in the second period of the Neolithic Age, the pottery with lightning design in the northwestern region was assumed to have an impact on the counterpart in the northeastern region. The classification of the pottery with lightning design in the northeastern region shall be based on 4-period development. According to this classification, the pottery, which was found in the Tumen river basin, was thought to belong to the first period. The pottery went through genealogy differentiation in the second period and when entering into the third period, the pottery spread to inland of south Primorskii. The pottery was assumed to exist in the southern Primorskii region until the tip end (the fourth period) of the Neolithic Age. It is assumed that considering the fact that climate change led to the agriculture movement, Zaisanovka culture, i.e. the late Ne Neolithic Age, moved to the southern Primorskii region along the Tumen River basin.
This study aims at exploring the nature of the traditional Korean wines brewed throughout the Southern Region of Korea-Chulla-do, Kyungsang-do and Cheju-do describing their varieties and brewing methods and also comparing the similarities and differences of their features. When compared with the wines produced in the Central Region, the Southern varieties are very fastidious and complex in their brewing methods, which in turn show a wide range of diversity. First of all, all the 29 kinds of wines investigated, not a single one shows any resemblance to any one of the remaining, each exhibiting peculiar and particular characteristic features of its own. Especially, the distilling methods demonstrate very complex processes. Secondly, the majority of the Southern spirits are made from grains, added with fragrant flavor of pine tree, wormwood, chrysanthemum leaves and other medicine herbs such as Chinese matrimony vine and tankui. Thirdly, they are brewed with yeast made from wheat into kodupap(steamed rice) type of spirits, emerging as in the form of blended liquor. Fourthly, in brewing, different fermenting temperature and duration are required. Typewise, the temperature required for the basic spirit is $15{\sim}20^{\circ}C\;or\;25{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ : in the case of blended secondarily fermented liquor, from the minimum of $0{\sim}5^{\circ}C$ to the maximum of $75{\sim}80^{\circ}C$. The brewing duration is $3{\sim}5$ days for the basic spirits. In some cases, from the minimum of 3 days to the maximum of 100 days are consumed for fermenting. Fifthly, the wine extraction gadgets are yongsu (wine strainer), the sieve, filter paper, Korean traditional paper, the utilization of which implies that the brewers endeavor to observe and preserve the traditional and indigenous methods of wine making.

Global warming-induced drought inflicts significant socio-economic and environmental damage. In Korea, the persistent drought in the southern region since 2022 has severely affected water supplies, agriculture, forests, and ecosystems due to uneven precipitation distribution. To effectively prepare for and mitigate such impacts, it is imperative to develop proactive measures supported by early monitoring systems. In this study, we analyzed the spatiotemporal changes of multiple evapotranspiration-based drought indices, focusing on the flash drought event in the southern region in 2022. The indices included the Evaporative Demand Drought Index (EDDI), Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) considering precipitation and temperature, and the Evaporative Stress Index (ESI) based on satellite images. The Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) and SPEI indices utilized temperature and precipitation data from meteorological observation stations, while the ESI index was based on satellite image data provided by the MODIS sensor on the Terra satellite. Additionally, we utilized the Evaporative Demand Drought Index (EDDI) provided by the North Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) as a supplementary index to ESI, enabling us to perform more effective drought monitoring. We compared the degree and extent of drought in the southern region through four drought indices, and analyzed the causes and effects of drought from various perspectives. Findings indicate that the ESI is more sensitive in detecting the timing and scope of drought, aligning closely with observed drought trends.
The minimum temperatures are important element in the daily human life, the climatic classification, and so on. In this study, the authors aim to make an analysis the distribution characteristics of minimum temperatures of 95 weather stations in Korea by using the Climatological Standard Normals of Korea VolumeI, VolumeII, and the Climatological Standard Normals of North Korea. The important results are as follows 1) The daily, fifthly, and tenthly minimum temperatures show the highest rate of occurrance on 14th of January( Occurrance rate : 56.6% ), 16~20th of January( 37.6% ), and the middle ten days of January( 82.1% ) respectively. 2) In the regional distribution of minimum temperatures in winter, the values of northern part, inland area, and west coastal region are lower than those of southern, coastal, and east coastal regions respectively. And, bigger cities and industrial area( Seoul, Incheon, Daejeon, Daegu, etc. ) have larger values than the its vicinities. 3) When the daily minimum temperature is $0^{\circ}C$ and less, the days of northern part, inland area, and wests coastal region are higher than those of southern, coastal, and east coastal regions respectively.

A faunal study on the marine amphipods at eight sites of the continental shelf region in the Southern Sea, Korea was conducted from 16-17 August 2022. In this study, 26 amphipod species in 19 genera and 14 families were found. Among these 14 families, the family Ampeliscidae with six species showed the highest abundance, followed by the family Caprellidae with five species. Amphipods were collected using conical nets, MOCNESS nets, SM grabs, and trawls. When using the SM Grab for collecting benthic sediment, 15 out of a total of 26 amphipod species were surveyed, indicating the highest diversity of amphipod species. Out of the total 26 species, four identified species (Ampelisca pygmaea Schellenberg, 1938; Byblis longiflagelis Ren, 1998; Caprella iniquilibra Mayer, 1903; Primno latreillei Stebbing, 1888) and five unidentified species(Themisto sp., Liljeborgia sp., Dulichiella sp., Cranocephalus sp., Primno sp.) are newly recorded in Korean fauna. These newly recorded species are fully illustrated and compared with related species. We provide a list amphipod fauna in Southern Sea of Korea including figures and tables.

In this study, the wave power resources at the southern sea of Korea were estimated by using the hindcasted wave data of previous researches. The used data were wave heights, periods and directions which were hindcasted around the Korea peninsular from 1979 to 2003. The spatial resolution of the hindcasted data is $1/6^{\circ}$(about 18 km). In winter, the northwest monsoon increase the wave power, while the wave power around Korea peninsular is very small in spring. The maximum value of the annual mean wave power is about 13 kW/m at Gageo-do, Heuksan-do and western region of Jeju-do, while those at the southern sea of Korea is only 4 kW/m, which is relatively small. The wave power at Korean east sea is lower than that of Korean southern sea. We obtained the wave resources information, in a fine grid, at Gageo-do, Heuksan-do, and western sea of Jeju-do, by solving SWAN model with the boundary conditions of hindcasted wave data.

A stable method for strain distinction using viral RNA 1 structures analyses was developed and compared with the combined RT-PCR and RAPD methods. Seven out of 61 random primers were found to be polymorphic based on RAPD analysis resulting on the differentiation of the 33 BaYMV isolates into four distinct groups according to geographical districts. The first and largest group includes 13 isolate and consists mainly of two-rowed malting barley in Haenam area. The second group had ten collections from inland in west southern. The third group had seven isolates from west southern coastal region, where mainly six-rowed naked barley is cultivated. The last fourth group included three isolates from Gyungnam region in east southern area. Conclusively, RNA 1 analysis proved to be stable and efficient method for strain distinction for Korean BaYMV isolates. Further, results of pathogenicity and RNA 1 structure analyses revealed four groups BaYMV strains and were distributed all over Korea, represented by Naju, Haenam-okcheon, Iksan and Milyang.
Oceanic conditions of the Tsushirm Wann Current (1WC) region in the southern area if the East Sea (the Japan Sea) are examined using data obtained from a CREAMS (Circulation Research if the East Asian Marginal Seas) cruise in June 1996. In 1990s, a lower temperature appears in $19\%$ and in this period, two branch of the TWC exist and the first branch of the TWC flows inshore if the Japanese coastal region compared to tfr1t in the other years, especially in the sfr1llower water layer at less th:1n about 2mm. The TWC cored with the higher salinity (>34.6 psu) is clearly observed over the continental shelf zone in the Japanese coastal region and offshore and identified by geostrophic calculation Intrusion if the TWC into the East Sea through the Korea Strait (the Tsushima Strait) makes the density structure in the water column change and the water mass in the TWC region is unstable based on Brunt- Vaisala frequency.
