Recently, rapid climate change has had a significant impact on the ecosystem of honeybees. In addition, the problem of Vespa Hornets invasion of colonies has a fatal impact on the bee ecosystem, independent of climate change. Especially in late summer. This study relates to a method for preventing Vespa Hornets attack. In this study, we developed a Vespa Hornets sound detection device was developed by collecting and analyzing the sound of a Vespa Hornets and applying IoT technology. The developed device detects the sound of a Vespa Hornets when Vespa Hornets appears around the hive of the bees and sends a signal to automatically close the door of the beehive. The device that receives the signal drives the motor that controls the honeycomb door to close the beehive door. The Vespa Hornets sound detection device operates until no Vespa Hornets sound is detected. The system developed by us is expected to be installed in the beehives of actual beekeeping farms to dramatically reduce the damage caused by by Vespa Hornets.
Violinists learn to make better sounds by hearing and evaluating their own playing though numerous practice. This study proposes a new method of auditory feedback, which mimics this violinists' step and verifies its efficiency using experiments. Making the desired sound quality of a violin is difficult without auditory feedback even though an expert violinist plays. An algorithm for controlling a robot arm of violin playing robot is determined based on correlations with bowing speed, bowing force, and sound point that determine the sound quality of a violin. The bowing speed is estimated by the control command of the robot arm, where the bowing force and the sound point are recognized by using a two-axis load cell and a photo interrupter, respectively. To improve the sound quality of a violin playing robot, the sounds information is obtained by auditory feedback system applied Short Time Fourier Transform (STFT) to the sounds from a violin. This study suggests Gaussian-Harmonic-Quality (GHQ) uses sounds' clarity, accuracy, and harmonic structure in order to decide sound quality, objectively. Through the experiments, the auditory feedback system improved the performance quality by the robot accordingly, changing the bowing speed, bowing force, and sound point and determining the quality of robot sounds by GHQ sound quality evaluation system.
The hearing mechanism is a complicated system. Sound is generated by a source that sends out air pressure or power. The pressure or power makes the sound waves. These waves reach the eardrum, or tympanic membrane, which vibrates at a rate and magnitude proportional to the nature of the sound waves. The tympanic membrane transforms this vibration into the mechanical energy in the middle ear, which in turn converts it to the hydraulic energy in the fluid of the inner ear. The hydraulic energy stimulates the sensory cells of the inner ear which send neuroelectrical impulses to the central auditory nervous system. The passive perception of auditory information starts just here. The listener gives attention to the speech sound, differentiates the sound from background noise, and integrates his experience with similar sounds. The listener then puts all of these aspects of audition into the context of the moment to identify the nature of sound. This has a major role in human communication. This paper provides an overview of the nature and characteristics of sound, the structure and function of the auditory system, and the way in which sound is processed by the auditory system.
As is commonly said, music is 'language of emotions.' It is because sound is a plentiful modality to communicate the human sensibility information. However, most researches of auditory displays were focused on improving efficiency on user's performance data such as performance time and accuracy. Recently, many of researchers in auditory displays acknowledge that individual preference and sensible satisfaction may be a more important factor than the performance data. On this ground, in the present study we constructed the sound sensibility dimensions ('Pleasure', 'Complexity', and 'Activity') and systematically examined the attributes of sound on the sensibility dimensions and analyzed the meanings. As a result, sound sensibility dimensions depended on each sound attributes , and some sound attributes interact with one another. Consequently, the results of the present study will provide the useful possibilities of applying the affective influence in the field of auditory displays needing the applications of the sensibility information according to the sound attributes.
We propose a sound source localization method using the Head-Related-Transfer-Function (HRTF) to be implemented in a robot platform. In conventional localization methods, the location of a sound source is estimated from the time delays of wave fronts arriving in each microphone standing in an array formation in free-field. In case of a human head this corresponds to Interaural-Time-Delay (ITD) which is simply the time delay of incoming sound waves between the two ears. Although ITD is an excellent sound cue in stimulating a lateral perception on the horizontal plane, confusion is often raised when tracking the sound location from ITD alone because each sound source and its mirror image about the interaural axis share the same ITD. On the other hand, HRTFs associated with a dummy head microphone system or a robot platform with several microphones contain not only the information regarding proper time delays but also phase and magnitude distortions due to diffraction and scattering by the shading object such as the head and body of the platform. As a result, a set of HRTFs for any given platform provides a substantial amount of information as to the whereabouts of the source once proper analysis can be performed. In this study, we introduce new phase and magnitude criteria to be satisfied by a set of output signals from the microphones in order to find the sound source location in accordance with the HRTF database empirically obtained in an anechoic chamber with the given platform. The suggested method is verified through an experiment in a household environment and compared against the conventional method in performance.

Unlike internal combustion engines, electric cars have little engine sound and very quiet, causing the following problems to occur. First of all, pedestrians are a threat to safety because they can't feel the car approaching. The driver is also unable to recognize how fast his car is driving at a certain speed. To solve these problems, electric cars should be artificially created and reused. This paper examines the problems of the Sampling engine sound currently being used and uses the engine sound to produce a sound engine sound for the solution. The sampling engine sound has some limitations in making natural engine sounds. To overcome this problem, we studied two methods of using software synthesizers. They found subtractive synthsizing and wavetable synthsizing, which compared wavetabe synthsizing with actual engine, sampling and subtractive methods to find the most similar to real engine sound. We found that data usage and production cost are more advantageous than sampling method and subtractive syndication method.

A binaural filtering method using HRTF DB is generally used to make the headphone-based 3D sound. But it can make some confusion between front and back directions or between up and down directions due to the non-individual HRTF depending on each listener. To reduce the confusion of sound image localization, we propose a new method to boost the spectral cue by modifying HRTF spectra with spectrum difference between front and back directions. Informal listening tests show that the proposed method improves the front-back sound localization characteristics much better than the conventional methods

In recent years, as the environment has become an important issue in dealing with food, energy, and urban development, diverse environment-related applications such as environmental monitoring and ecosystem management have emerged. In such applications, automatic classification of animals using video or sound is very useful in terms of cost and convenience. So far, many works have been done for animal sounds classification using artificial intelligence techniques such as a convolutional neural network. However, most of them have dealt only with the sound of a specific class of animals such as bird sounds or insect sounds. Due to this, they are not suitable for classifying various types of animal sounds. In this paper, we propose a sound classification scheme based on a multi-feature network for classifying sounds of multiple species of animals. To do that, we first collected multiple animal sound datasets and grouped them into classes. Then, we extracted their audio features by generating mixed records and used those features for training. To evaluate the effectiveness of our scheme, we constructed an animal sound classification model and performed various experiments. We report some of the results.

It is introduced an approach to model for numerical analysis of a sound absorbing material that has different absorbing coefficient according to frequency. For modeling of a sound absorbing material, we tried to model by a traditional modeling method. But it had large differences on frequency domain, especially a capacitance component due to increasing of frequency. We approach to model a sound absorbing material by the Debye polarization technique with non-linear least square method. At first, we estimated parameters form a polyurethane with thickness 25 mm, then we could model a polyurethane with thickness 50 mm using same parameters. Therefor, we could find that the Debye polarization is an useful way to model sound absorbing materials.

It is very difficult to monitor the blind spots that are not recognized by traditional surveillance camera (CCTV) systems, and the surveillance efficiencies are very low though many accidents/events can be solved by the systems. In this paper, the fuzzy logic based sound source localization system using sound strength in the underground parking lot is suggested and the performance of the system is analyzed in order to enhance the stabilization and the accuracy of the localization algorithm in the suggested system. It is confirmed that the localization stabilization of the localization algorithm (SLA_fuzzy) using the fuzzy logic in the suggested system is 4 times higher than that of the conventional localization algorithm (SLA). In addition to this, the localization accuracy of the SLA_fuzzy in the suggested system is 29% higher than that of the SLA.
