Development of A Method for The Musical Expression of Cognitive Food Taste

  • We developed a musical composition and performing method for the dynamic expression of food taste, to replace the static expression obtained from a numerical sensory score and linguistic method. The musical score was composed using cognitive food sensory data gathered while eating potato chips via a computer equipped with a sound card and a master keyboard, as well as Cakewalk 9.0, Goldwave 5.0, and Windows Media Player. The music score included four lines, one representing sensory data and three reflecting three layers of human consciousness. Different time units were applied by incorporating different repetition cycles for the relevant consciousness layers. The musical scores of individual subjects differed in terms of the score pattern and its sound. The music representing food taste was played by four instruments and showed different sound and acoustic frequency patterns for each individual subject during the consumption of potato chips. The musical expression method was applied to analyze the individual taste characteristics in the cognition of food.

An Adjacency Effect in Auditory Distance and Loudness Judgments

  • This study investigated whether the adjacency principle. demonstrated in a perceived visual space, can be applied to auditory space. In order to demonstrate an auditory adjacency principle, multiple sound sources were varied in direction and distance in an acoustically absorbant space. Specifically, a NEAR sound source was located 10° to the left of the listener's midline at a distance of 2 meters; a FAR sound source was located 10° to the right at a distance of 5 meters. These sources served as perceptual reference points with respect to the localization of three test sounds, all at a distance of 3 meters. Two of three test sounds were directionally closer to the NEAR and FAR reference sounds, respectively. The other was between the reference sources directionally. The listener was asked to judge the perceived distances and the loudness of the three test sounds and the two reference sounds. The results indicated that the apparent distances of the test sounds were most determined by the disparity of distance between each test sound and the reference sound most directionally adjacent to it. Therefore, the findings offer evidence that the adjacency principle can be applied to the auditory space.

A Study on the Consciousness of Rural Community Residents' Environment Preservation (농촌지역주민의 환경보전 의식구조에 관한 연구)

  • The objectives of this study were: (a) to measure the level of rural community residents' environmental preservation consciousness, (b) to identify the variables related to their level of environmental preservation consciousness, and (c) to provide suggestions to improve their environmental preservation consciousness. The major findings of this study were as follows; 1) Personal characteristics- gender, years of education, age, and income- were related to the rural communities residents' the environmental preservation consciousness. 2) Social characteristics- membership in environmental organizations, participation in environmental preservation campaigns, environmental dispute within their communities, experiences of participation in environmental dispute in their communities, participation in environmental education-were related to the rural community residents' the environmental preservation consciousness. Based on the above findings, the following suggestions are offered: 1) To improve rural community residents' environmental preservation consciousness, residents in rural community should be motivated and encouraged to participate in environmental and agriculture-related organizations. 2) To effectively solve environmental disputes among rural community residents and between rural communities, central and local governments should provide opportunities for rural residents to acquire their sound environmental consciousness. 3) Environmental preservation consciousness should be assessed including affective domain, cognitive domain, and behavioral domain. Appropriate environmental education programs should be developed after considering rural residents' personal characteristics including education level, income, gender, years of residency, and are.

Environmental Education in the Moral Education (도덕과 교육에서의 환경 교육)

  • The goals of moral education according to the 7th educational curriculum are (1) to learn the basic life custom and ethical norms necessary to desirable life, (2) to develop the judgment to solve desirably and practically the ethical matters in daily life, (3) to develop the sound citizenship, national identity and consciousness, and the consciousness of world peace and mankind's mutual prosperity, and (4) to develop the ethical propensity to practice the ideal and principle of life systematically Based on the goals in the above, the following can be established as goals of environmental education possible: (1) to learn judgment to solve practically the environmental problems in the society with their ethical understanding, and (2) to recognize that environmental consciousness is the basic necessity of sound citizenship and national identity and consciousness, and mankind's mutual prosperity, and to have attitudes to practice environmental preservation in daily life. Like these, the intellectual aspect, the affective aspect, and the active aspect can be established in the environmental education in the ethics education keeping their balance. In order to achieve its goals, the contents of ethics subject are organized largely with 4 domains: (1) individual life, (2) home life, life with neighbors, and school life, (3) social life, and (4) national life. Among these, environmental education is mainly included in the domain of social life. These contents concerning environmental education take 22 (32.4%) out of the whole 68 teaching factors which are taught in the ethics subject from the 3rd grade to 10th grade. These 22 environmental teaching factors are mainly related to environmental ethics, environmental preservation and measures, and sound consumption life. Classified according to each goal, the environmental contents in the 7th curriculum for ethics subject put emphasis on environmental value and attitudes, action and participation, and information and knowledge. Therefore, the recommendable teaching and learning method for the environmental education in ethics subject is to motivate students' practice or to make them practice in person. For example, role-play model, value-conflict model, group study model can be applied according to the topics of environmental education.

A Study on the Similarity of Rising Structure of Tibetan Singing Bowl Chakra Arrangement and Chakra Lotus Mantra (티베트 싱잉볼 차크라 배열과 차크라연꽃 만트라의 상승 구조의 유사성 연구)

  • Purpose : This study suggests that the unique chakra arrangement of Tibetan singing bowls resembles the mantra of chakra lotus in the tantric tradition and the structure of chakra ascent, The two aim at the liberation of consciousness and confirm that they have a body, mind, and conscious healing mechanism. Methods : First, the structural characteristics of Tibetan singing bowls arrangement and chakra lotus mantra arrangement were investigated through the consideration of previous studies. Next, the healing mechanism of Tibetan singing bowls, which has been learned in Nepal, was examined through previous studies and literature to clarify that the rise of chakra in the two systems has a balance of body, mind, and consciousness and aims at liberation of consciousness. Results : The arrangement of Tibetan chakras is similar to the mantra of chakra lotus. Both have a structure in which the auxiliary sound of the previous chakra is interlocked with the structure of being the main sound of the next chakra to raise the chakra. At this time, the rise of the chakra is the liberation of consciousness by the ultimate purpose. Conclusion : Tibetan chakra are structurally similar to chakra lotus mantras and chakra ascents, as they have a theoretical background to tantric traditions. Chakra is the quality of inner consciousness that is conveyed to the outside and expressed in its own actions. Therefore, chakras should be well coordinated to lead our lives healthily. In this point, the chakra arrangement of Tibetan singing bowls is a system that exposes the inner balance to the outside and heals us more directly. Therefore, Tibetan singing bowls therapy has an integrated medical value in restoring our mind and body balance. Because chakras are dimensions of consciousness, the study of chakras is abstract or lacking, so more systematic and scientific study of chakras is needed.

  • Reading room in the university is one of necessary facilities that university student must use. It is, therefore, very important to make reading room comfortable acoustically not only to minimize the annoyance to the users but also to provide efficiency in studying. Present study aims to investigate the current situation of reading room in terms of acoustics and moreover to find out the relationship between the indoor noise and users' satisfaction through questionnaire survey. As a result, the indoor noise level is quite higher than the 1st grade, 35 dB(A), that the Ministry of land, transport and maritime affairs suggests as certificate regulation for environment friendly building and there were lots of noise sources that can provoke users in studying or concentrating. Questionnaire survey illustrates that the sound when opening and closing door, and airborne sound from outdoor transmitted through window are most annoying, which affected users' dissatisfaction.

Impacts of Local Civic Consciousness Formation : Focused on the Yong-in City (지역시민의식 형성 영향 요인 : 용인시를 중심으로)

  • This study apprehends the effect of primary causes that form civic consciousness, which mature local residents should have. Moreover, it tries to contribute to the development of mature civic consciousness with regard to the situations and conditions of local community, by observing how the extent of local problem recognition, personal viewpoints, and participation in social activities affect formation of civic consciousness. The research was conducted to 600 local residents, ages 20 and above, with proportional stratified sampling method. The study showed that high recognition of environmental, social, economic and aging issues, fulfillment on social achievement, self-perception, culture orientation, and higher frequency on participating on social activities have positive effects on formation of sound civic consciousness.

A Harmony in Language and Music (언어와 음악의 상관관계 고찰을 위한 연구)

  • Either in music or in language, sound plays its role by taking up the fixed multi-spaces in one's consciousness. Music space differs from auditory space whose aim Is to perceive the positions and identities of the outer things. While auditory space is based on the interests of the outer things, music space is based on the indifference. We discuss the notion of space because it is where symbols reside. Categorial perception about the phonemic restoration describes the ability of a listener how to use his own intelligence to acknowledge and fill the missing points; however, musical perception can be explained as a positive regression to avoid colloquial logic and danger of segmentation in the course of auditory experience and phonation acquisition by an infant. About the question on the difference of the listening to the language sound and other sound, auditory mechanism proceeds language sound the same as other types of sound. But there are another theories which claim that brain proceeds the farmer differently from the latter. The function of music has not been discovered as clear as that of language; music has much more meanings in comparison with language.

The Consumer Consciousness and Behavior on Environmental Problems of the High School Girls (여고생의 환경문제에 대한 소비자 의식과 행동)

  • The purpose of this study are to measure the overall level of consumer consciousness and behavior on environmental problems of high school girl students and to analyze the most influential factors related to the socio-demography and the education on environment. This study also aims at inspiring the students with sound view of environments and furnishing basic data for the development of consumer education program. The researcher used questionnaires on consumer consciousness scale and consumer behavior scale for the purpose of this study. 640 students were surveyed randomly in Kwangju and Chonnam, and 608 questionnaires were selected as final analysis data. Major Findings were as follows: 1. The average score of consumer consciousness and behavior on environmental problems of the high school girls were 86.0 on scale of 110 (72.7 on scale of 100) and 63.3 on scale of 115(43.8 on scale of 100). 2. The consumer consciousness and behavior on environmental problems of the high school girls showed partial differences according to the socio-demography variable. 3. The consumer consciousness and behavior on environmental problems of the high school girls showed partial differences according to the education to environment variables. 4. The consumer behavior on environmental problems had a positive relationship with the consumer consciousness. 5. The most influential variables on the consumer consciousness were necessity of the education on environment, the type of school, region, and monthly allowance money in sequence. And the most influential variables on the consumer behavior were the campaign on environment in home, participation in environment preservation, cosciousness of environment, and education experience on environment in sequence.   • The aim of this study is to search for the meaning and direction of sound environment preservation in Korea through the concept of soundscape. In order to achieve the goals, it was analyzed the similarities and differences on the contents of "100 The beautiful sounds of Korea - 1999" and "100 Soundscapes of Japan - 1996" in view of the intents of selection, the process of selection, and the construction of the results. The result show that there are the both similarities and differences on the intent and the process of selection, types and extent of sound samples, interactions among human-sound environment-region, the identities of the regions as well as the recognized sound environment. Also, the result shows that it is very important to preserve ecological, social, and cultural sound environment of the region. In order to practice this ideology of soundscape in Korea, there is a necessity for converting people's consciousness and participating voluntary residents' movement.
