  • The blocks using flyash were prepared in this study. The characteristic of sound absorption of flyash block was investigated. It was revealed that the chemical additives and flyash played an important role to determine the characteristic of sound absorption. Chemical additive affects the capability of sound absorption while flyash affects the characteristic of sound absorption, i.e. high value of the sound absorption coefficient at the specific frequencies(1KHz and 2KHz). The flyash block showed higher sound absorption coefficient than that of the commercial concrete block having carpet on the surface. It was also shown that the sound absorption coefficient increases with increase of the content of flyash in the block. However, it was found that the 70wt% of flyash in the flyash block was the optimum content to obtain the highest sound absorption coefficient.

  • A new method is presented to determine two fundamental acoustic quantities of sound-absorbing materials such as characteristic impedance and propagation constant. In this study, the surface acoustic impedances of sound-absorbing materials are measured using the impedance tube and the anechoic chamber to determine the above acoustic quantities. The measured results are given for two typical sound-absorbing materials(glass wool and urethane foam) int the frequency range between 150 and 1, 600 Hz. The results are verified by other two known methods, which are Smith & Parrott method and Utsuno et al. method. The absorption coefficients calculated from the empirical models(Miki model for glass wool and Jung model for urethane foam) and two quantities by present method are in good agreement with the measured values.

  • The paper describes measurement techniques for an acoustic transfer characteristic of ship's bridge stimulated by a whistle sound. The response sounds, according to the opening-shutting conditions of bridge doors for T/S ‘SAENURI’, are measured by B&K 2260D equipment, and then extracted the frequency responses by B&K 7830 software. To evaluate the measured transfer characteristic, the 128th order FIR (Finite Impulse Response) filters, containing the frequency characteristic, are constructed based on the frequency sampling-based design method. Using evaluation indexes with six scales, psychological assessments by five subjects are carried out with test sounds which are convolved source sound and FIR filters. As results of tests, the test sounds gives A/sub s/=3.3∼4.7 which means the psychological sense of 'it is almost similar sound as original ones in a real world', and thus it is cleary seen tint the proposed method can be suit for the measurement of an acoustic transfer characteristic of ship's bridg.

  • In these days, promising renewable energy, wind turbine is clean energy but has an environmental pollutant which is noise. Noise assessment is one of the major performance evaluations for wind turbine and nowadays, developing and research for measurement and method of the assessment considering environmental pollutants is being important. Object in this study is that figuring out sound power characteristic of the gearbox for wind turbine through measuring sound intensity. In back-to-back test, we can figure out the noise characteristic of the gearbox for wind turbine through comparing and measuring sound pressure level, sound power level in operating at the each load condition respectively.

  • Resilient materials are generally used for the floating floors to reduce the floor impact sound. Dynamic stiffness of resilient material, which has the most to do with the floor impact sound reduction. The resilient materials available in Korea include EPS (Styrofoam), recycled urethane types, EVA (Ethylene Vinylacetate) foam rubber, foam PE (Polyethylene), glass fiber & rock wool, recycled tire, foam polypropylene, compressed polyester, and other synthetic materials. In this study, we tested floor impact sound reduction characteristic to a lot of kinds of resilient material. The result of test showed that the amount of the heavy-weight impact sound reduction appeared by being influenced from this dynamic stiffness of resilient material. The dynamic stiffness looked like between other resilient materials, a similar to the amount of the heavy-weight impact sound reduction was shown.

  • Sound absorption coefficient is affected by void in sound absorbing materials, therefore it is important to analyze properties of void pore. Also, it can be used to estimate performance of foamed concrete when it is applied to absorb sound. The purpose of this study is to analyze the sound absorption coefficient and void characteristic of foamed concrete using bottom ash. As a result of experiment, it was determined that an increase in sound absorption coefficient is achieved by increasing added amount of foam.

  • For a cylinder in a uniform flow stream, sound is generated by the fluctuating pressure on the cylinder surface due to the vortex shedding behind the cylinder. It is known that the major parameters to predict the sound pressure are the characteristic length of the flow along the cylinder axis and the fluctuating lift coefficient. These parameters strongly depend on the Reynolds number and the yaw angle of the cylinder to the free stream. In this experimental study the effects of yaw on the flow parameters, and consequently on the generated sound are investigated. The surface pressure and the radiated sound are measured simultaneously for different yaw angles and showed that the reduced normal velocity component to the cylinder axis reduces the unsteady lift fluctuation which results in lowered sound press-are level, However, experimental result shows that "the cosine law" which uses the normal velocity component as a characteristic velocity for noise Generation from a yawed cylinder needs to be carefully reviewed. reviewed.

  • Animation creates meaning and affection by combinig image and sound like film. directed by Yuri Norstein is a good text for analyzing animation sound in that it combines image and various music and sound effects well. This study focuses on analyzing the way that sound function to make meaning in this text. Generally sound is categorized into dialogue, music, and sound effect. And animation has its own characteristic in each category. The voice for dialogue is created corresponding to the image of the character and the rhythm is very important in Animation. Plus Sound effect in animation can be said to mimic not just sound but also movement. This study analyzes sound based on three sound factors and the concepts of the point of listening, subjective sound, and sound bridge. Subjective sound using the point of listening of the wolf and the baby bestows a special position on the main characters in the text. It is the overall characteristic of the sound use of this text that the repetitive combination of sound and image, the linguistic and annotative function of sound effect, and comparatively conventional use of music and sound effect enhance the affection and readability.

  • In this study, the acoustic properties of steel-wire sound absorbing materials with different thickness and bulk density were investigated in terms of characteristic impedance, propagation constant, and absorption coefficient. The well-known two-cavity method was used for evaluating those acoustic parameter values in experiments. Also, in order to validate the experimentally measured values, the results were compared with the results obtained from Chung and Blaser's transfer function method and SWR method. The experimentally measured values of normal absorption coefficients were generally agreed well with the corresponding values from the transfer function method and the SWR method. Based on the experimental results, the following conclusions could be made. The magnitude of the absorption coefficient and the frequency range of the maximum absorption coefficient were controllable by changing the thickness and bulk density of the sound absorbing materials. Also, the magnitude of the absorption coefficient depended on the characteristic impedance and the propagation constant. As large as the air cavity depth at the rear side of the steel-wire sound absorbing materials, the maximum magnitude of the absorption coefficient occurred at the lower frequency ranges.
