Males of E. elegans and E. fucata were tested to investigate whether territorial males can discriminate between neighbor and stranger based on playback of natural and artificial song repertoires. In addition, E. fucata was stimulated by playback of only the individually specific section as well as of only the posterior portion of the song. Males of E. elegans were able to discriminate individually between neighbor and stranger in response to natural song repertoires, but they did not respond to playback of the artificial song repertoires of neighbor and stranger. • Soil in Jeju Island is largely classified into dark brown non-volcanic ash soil weathered by basalt, dark brown ash soil and black volcanic ash soil origin from volcanic ash. Non-volcanic ash soil is similar to main land soil which can cultivate rice and barely, however, volcanic ash soil is very sterile therefore even barely cultivation is impossible. Although dolmen distribution, ancestral rites, folk songs and agricultural methods can be clearly classed into regional characteristics, it is hard to adduce humanistic sociological basis. However, regional characteristics can be classified by using soil physic-chemical properties of non-volcanic ash soil and volcanic ash soil. Non-volcanic ash soil region relatively has cheerful folk song, dolmen is found and bunjitgeori ancestral rites are common. One the other hand, there are no dolmen are found in volcanic ash soil area. Sad shamanistic song such as Jinsadetsori is common and firstborn-son takes the lead in ancestral rites in this area. This lesson interprets socio-cultural difference using soil environment.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the theatrical aesthetics of the performances which was produced by the theater director, Yang Jung-Ung. Yang has been one of the most influential directors working in Korea in the last 15 years. He has put up performances all over the world with the theater members from his company called Yohangza, which was founded by him in 1997, and working as the director, portrayed his style of the theatrical aesthetics through the works of its plays and musical products. In 2012, this company performed A Midsummer Night's Dream at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. A Midsummer Night's Dream was invited to be staged at the Barbican Center in 2006. In the same year, it received the grand prize and the Audience Choice award at the Gdansk International Shakespeare Festival in Poland. The musical products like A Good Woman from Seoul and the modern Opera Wozeck are representative works of Yohangza, which are known for a unique way of exploring the meaning of life. The 2009 plays Hamlet and Peer Gynt represent Yohangza's simpler yet more insightful theatrical style. Peer Gynt, which debuted at the LG Art Center, made headlines for its innovative staging. It received the grand prix, Best Director and Best Stage Art awards at the 2009 Korea Theater Awards. Yohangza's plays show two-side "image-based" works. The company drastically reduced verbal lines and enriched the plays with Korean sentiment and aesthetics, but their scripts contained many poetic lines full of overtones. They showed a theatrical mise-en-scene of images, energetic dance, songs in chorus and percussion. For example, Korean sentiments were subtly blended into the two Shakespeare's plays, A Midsummer Night's Dream and Twelfth Nights. Their performance combines music, mime, song and dance to create an exhilarating adaptation of Shakespeare's inventive and glittering comedy. In addition, the style of Yohangza Theatre Company is a collision of the past and the present: a reworking of existing Korean styles and themes infused with contemporary elements and full of unique exploration in the plays.

  • One of the things that should be done first in establishing the cosmic life culture is to reflect on the old human-oriented culture. If the cosmic life culture absolutizes everything except for humans according to the logic of reason, its foundation will weaken or eventually get lost. Separating humans from the universe is just like separating life from it. Given that all life, whether it is humans or the earth, originated from the universe, such an effort for separation merely values an individual life by excluding all life or whole life. When the human body and the cosmic chi' blood are not in an active flow, it means there is a problem with life. What is in the greatest need in such a case is the sincere human mind that follows the principle of cosmic life. It is like the sincerity found in the pasonri singer, who mellows all the hardships and difficulties in the world out and create songs out of them like the shadow. It is the pansori singer's shadow that changes the universe. It is only when the extreme force of human mind communicates with that of the universe that the cosmic life or cosmic life culture can be created. In that sense, it is urgent to create life out of the universe inside me and create a universe out of all life in and outside me. It is such a grave plan in human history in that it involves finding the "Sanal" which is the core of life living hidden inside the body whose life force gradually goes away or inside the universe, and creating the culture of Bokseung in which it bursts out. The most important thing in life is the flow, and the mankind is currently standing in the life flow of the massive universe's chaosmos. The greatest task the mankind is currently faced with is to think over how to deal with the period of Big Chaos in the massive universe's chaosmos reversely and establish the cosmic life culture anew.
