  • Nanomaterial $TiO_2-SiO_2$ was synthesized by hydrolysis and condensation process using 2-propanol(2-PrOH) and was characterized by FT-IR, DSC, XRD and FE-SEM. FT-IR spectra were measured to investigate Ti-0-Si absorption peak. DSC thermal analysis results appllied to Ozawa equation were used to calculate to activation energy of crystallization. It was found that the changes of X-ray diffraction patterns and FWHM obtained XRD measurement depended on calcination temperature. In FE-SEM analysis, particle size changed by quantity changes of Ti-alkokide.

  • One-dimensional CdTe nanorods (NRs) are obtained by the reaction of various Cd precursors with single crystalline Te nanorod templates, which are pre-synthesized from Te precursors by a simple and reproducible solvothermal method. Throughout the process, the diffraction intensity of different crystal facets of single crystalline Te NRs varied with reaction times. Finally, by alloying Cd ions along the axial direction of Te NRs, polycrystalline cubic phase CdTe NRs with diameters of 80-150 nm and length up to $1.2-2.4{\mu}m$ are obtained. The nucleation and growth processes of Te and CdTe NRs are discussed in details, and their properties are characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, Raman scattering, and UV-vis absorption spectra. It was found that the key elements of synthesizing CdTe NRs such as reaction temperatures and Cd sources will strongly influence the final shape of CdTe NRs.

  • In this study $TiO_2$/reduced graphene oxide ($TiO_2/rGO$) bipyramid with tunable nanostructure was fabricated by two-step solvothermal process and subsequent heat-treatment in air. The as-synthesized anatase $TiO_2$ nanocrystals possessed morphological bipyramid with exposed dominantly by (101) facets. Polyethylenimine was utilized during the combination of $TiO_2$ and graphene oxide (GO) to tune the surface charge, hindering the restack of graphene during solvothermal process and resulting in 1 to 5 layers of rGO wrapped on $TiO_2$ surface. After a further calcination, a portion of carbon quantum dots (CQDs) with a diameter about 2 nm were produced owing to the oxidizing and cutting of rGO on $TiO_2$. The as-prepared $TiO_2/rGO$ hybrid showed a highly photocatalytic activity, which is about 3.2 and 7.7 times enhancement for photodegradation of methyl orange with compared to pure $TiO_2$ and P25, respectively. We assume that the improvement of photocatalysis is attributed to the chemical bonding between rGO/CQDs and $TiO_2$ that accelerates photogenerated electron-hole pair separation, as well as enhances light harvest.

  • Ceria ($CeO_2$) is a rare earth oxide, which has been widely investigated to improve the property. It is important to increase the surface area of $CeO_2$, because high surface area of $CeO_2$ can improve the catalytic ability. $CeO_2$ nanoparticles were synthesized by a solvothermal process. A discussion on the influence of solvent ratio and precursors on $CeO_2$ nanoparticles was performed. The size and degree of the agglomeration of the synthesized $CeO_2$ could be tuned by controlling those parameters. The average size and distribution of prepared $CeO_2$ powders was in the range of 3 to 13 nm and narrow, respectively. The XRD pattern showed that the synthesized $CeO_2$ powders were crystalline with cubic phase of $CeO_2$. The average particle size was calculated by Scherrer equation and FE-TEM images. The morphology of the synthesized $CeO_2$ particle was objected using FE-TEM and FE-SEM. Specific surface area of the synthesized $CeO_2$ was determined using BET (Brunauer-Emmett-Teller) equation.

  • Amphiphilic PCZ-r-PEG random copolymer assisted solvothermal process is used to prepare mesoporous $TiO_2$ microspheres generated from nanoparticles by self-assembly method. Synthesized PCZ-r-PEG is characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The mesoporous $TiO_2$ are prepared by PCZ-r-PEG, glucose, water in tertrahydrofuran solution at $150^{\circ}C$ for 12 h and the $TiO_2$ microspheres are calcined at $550^{\circ}C$ for 30 min to further crystallize and organic residue are removed. Morphology and crystallization phase is characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) respectively. The mesoporous $TiO_2$ crystallized in pure anatase phase with diameter of $300{\pm}20nm$.

  • 3 mol% yttria-doped stabilized zirconia (3YSZ) is synthesized by a solvothermal process, and its characteristics are investigated using various methods. Also, the dispersibility of synthesized 3YSZ nanoparticles is observed with the species of surface modifier. The 3YSZ nano sol prepared with an optimum condition is employed in prism coating and its properties are evaluated. The synthesized 3YSZ nanoparticles show a globular shape with about 10 to 20 nm crystallite size. The mixed phases with the nano sol show a high specific surface of 178 ㎡/g. The prism sheet coated with the 3YSZ nano sol present an excellent refractive index, transmittance, and luminance; refractive index is 1.603, transmittance is 90.2 %, and luminance of coating film is improved by 5.9 % compared to that of the film without 3YSZ nano sol. It is verified that the surface modified 3YSZ is suitable as the prism sheet for optical displays.

  • A new magnetic semiconductor material was synthesized to enable separation after a liquid-type photocatalysis process. Core@shell-structured $CuFeS_2@TiO_2$ magnetic nanoparticles were prepared by a combination of solvothermal and wet-impregnation methods for photocatalysis applications. The materials obtained were characterized using X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, ultraviolet-visible, photoluminescence spectroscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area measurements, and cyclic voltammetry. This study confirmed that the light absorption of $CuFeS_2$ was shifted significantly to the visible wavelength compared to pure $TiO_2$. Moreover, the resulting hydrogen production from the photo-splitting methanol/water solution after 10 hours was more than 4 times on the core@shell structured $CuFeS_2@TiO_2$ nanocatalyst than on either pure $TiO_2$ or $CuFeS_2$.

  • We report the facile synthesis of graphene-$CdLa_2S_4$ composite through a facile solvothermal method at low temperature. The as-prepared products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and by Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis and BET analysis, revealing the uniform covering of the graphene nanosheet with $CdLa_2S_4$ nanocrystals. The as-prepared samples show a higher efficiency for the photocatalytic degradation of typical MB dye compared with P25 and $CdLa_2S_4$ bulk nanoparticles. The enhancement of visible-light-responsive photocatalytic properties by decolorization of Rh.B dye may be attributed to the following causes. Firstly, graphene nanosheet is capable of accepting, transporting and storing electrons, and thus retarding or hindering the recombination of the electrons with the holes remaining on the excited $CdLa_2S_4$ nanoparticles. Secondly, graphene nanosheet can increase the adsorption of pollutants. The final cause is that their extended light absorption range. This work not only offers a simple way to synthesize graphene-based composites via a one-step process at low temperature but also a path to obtain efficient functional materials for environmental purification and other applications.

  • Magnetic nanoparticles have a significant impact on the development of basic sciences and nanomedical, electronic, optical, and biotech industries. The development of magnetic structures with size homogeneity, magnetization, and particle dispersibility due to high-quality process development can broaden their utilization for separation analysis, structural color optics using surface modification, and energy/catalysts. In addition, magnetic nanoparticles simultaneously exhibit two properties: magnetic and plasmon resonance, which can be self-assembled and can improve signal sensitivity through plasmon resonance. This paper reports typical examples of the synthesis and properties of various magnetic nanoparticles, especially magnetoplasmonic nanoparticles developed in our laboratory over the past decade, and their optical, electrochemical, energy/catalytic, and bio-applications. In addition, the future value of magnetoplasmonic nanoparticles can be reevaluated by comparing them with that reported in the literature.

  • A facile microwave assisted solvothermal process is designed for fabricating SnS nanoparticles decorated on graphene nanosheet, which used as visible light driven photocatalyst. Some typical characterization techniques such as XRD, FT-IR, SEM with EDX analysis, and TEM and BET analysis are used to analyse the physical characteristics of as-prepared samples. Spherical SnS nanoparticles are uniformly dispersed on the surface of graphene nanosheet due to ammonia, which can prevent the aggregation of graphene oxide. Meanwhile, microwave radiation provides fast energy that promotes the formation of spherical SnS nanoparticles within a short time. The visible light photocatalytic activity of as-prepared SnS-GR nanocomposites is analysed through photodegradation efficiency of methylene blue with high concentration. According to the higher photocatalytic property, the as-prepared SnS-GR nanocomposites can be expected to be an efficient visible light driven photocatalyst. After five cycles for decolorization, the rate decreases from 87 % to 78 % (about 9 %). It is obvious that the photocatalytic activity of SnS-GR nanocomposite has good repeatability.
