Liquid-Phase Synthesis of Biaryl Compounds by the Hydrogenolysis of Pentaerythritol-Supported Biarylsulfonates

  • Unfunctionalized biaryl compounds were parallelly and combinatorially prepared by the traceless hydrogenolysis of biarylsulfonates supported on pentaerythritol. The hydrogenolysis using 2-propylmagnesium chloride in the presence of $dppfNiCl_2$ efficiently generated corresponding biaryl derivatives without any memory of the support. The strategy using pentaerythritol as a small soluble support was disclosed to have a potential to combine the benefits of both SPOS and solution-phase reaction with fast reaction rate, facile isolation of intermediates, easy analysis of intermediates and atom economical manner. The novel tetrapodal support is expected to be an efficient substitute for polymeric supports in many circumstances.

  • Hydrotalcite was prepared by reacting with sodium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide and aluminum chloride solutions in this study. The optimum synthesis conditions based on the yield of the product were established by applying Box-Wilson experimental design. It was found that the optimum synthesis conditions of hydrotalcite were as follows ; reacting temperature : 63~9$0^{\circ}C$, concentration of reactant solution : 18.20~19.82%, molar concentration ratio of two reactants [Mg(OH)$_2$] / (AICl$_3$.6$H_2O$) : 6.0, temperature of washing water : 29.0-34.4$^{\circ}C$, drying temperature : 56-77.6$^{\circ}C$. The physicochemical properties of hydrotalcite as medicine were studied by use of chemical analysis, bulk volume test and acid consuming capacity measurements.

  • Hydrotalcite was prepared by reacting with sodium carbonate, magnesium oxide and aluminum sulfate solutions in this study. The optimum synthesis conditions based on the yield of the product were established by applying Box-Wilson experimental design. It was found that the optimum synthesis conditions of hydrotalcite were as follows; reacting temperature : 48~63$^{\circ}C$, concentration of reactant solution : about 20%, molar concentration ratio of two reactants [MgO]/[Al. sulfate] ; 7.35~8.1, temperature of washing water : 34.4~37.4$^{\circ}C$, drying temperature : 74~81.5$^{\circ}C$. The physicochemical properties of hydrotalcite as medicine were studied by use of chemical analysis, D.S.C. thermogram, bulk volume test and acid consuming capacity measurements.

A Method to Minimize Classification Rules Based on Data Mining and Logic Synthesis

  • When we conduct a data mining procedure on sample data sources, several rules are generated. But some rules are redundant or logically disjoint and therefore they can be removed. We suggest a new rule minimization algorithm inspired from logic synthesis to improve comprehensibility and eliminate redundant rules. The method can merge several relevant rules into one based on data mining and logic synthesis without high loss of accuracy. In case of two or more rules are candidates to be merged, we merge the rules with the attribute having the lowest information gain. To show the proposed method could be a reasonable solution, we applied the proposed approach to a problem domain constructing user preferred ontology in anti-spam systems.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient SA(simulated annealing) algorithm for the synthesis of binary phase computer generated hologram. SA algorithm is a method to find the optimal solution through iterative technique. It is important that selecting cost function and parameters within this algorithm. The aplications of converentional SA algorithm to synthesize parameters within this algorithm. The applications of conventional SA algorithm to synthesize binary hologram have many problems because of inappropriate paramters and cost function. So, we propose a new cost function and a calculation technique of proper parameters required to achieve the optimal solution. Computer simulation results show that the proposed method is better than conventional method in terms of diffraction efficiency and reconstruction error. Also, we show the reconstructed images by the proposed method through optical esperiment.

Hydrothermal synthesis of $PbTiO_3$ oxides with perovskite structure

  • The preparation of $PbTiO_3$ powder was carried out using the oxide starting material by hydrothermal method. The powder of a crystalline phase with perovskite structure was synthesized. The optimum conditions for the preparation of powder were as follows; hydrothermal solvent; 8M-KOH or 8M-NaOH, reaction temperature; 250~$270^{\circ}C$, run time; 10 h. The ,shape of synthesized powders were well developed crystalline faces with specific surface area of about 2.3 $\textrm m^2$/g in KOH solution and about 5.0 $\textrm m^2$/g in NaOH solution. The cell parameters of powder were a = 3.90$\AA$, c = 4.14 $\AA$ and cell volume was 57.30 $\AA^3$. The cell ratio (c/a) of powder was the same as the theoretical ratio with c/a = 1.06 and the phase transition temperature(Tc) of the powders was about $470^{\circ}C$.

  • $Y(OH)_3$ nanowires were synthesized by a hydrothermal reaction of metallic Y with aqueous solution of LiOH. The morphology and the size of the nanowires changed with varying the volume of the LiOH solution inside the autoclave. $Y(OH)_3$ nanowires transformed to $Y_2O_3$ by a subsequent heat-treatment without morphological change. By a proper control of hydrothermal reaction parameter and heat-treatment, the yield of pure $Y_2O_3$ nanowires up to 97% was attained.

  • Colloidal quantum dot (CQD) solar cells have attracted great attention due to their cost-effectiveness and solution-processability, as well as their size-dependent optical and electrical properties. The power conversion efficiency of CQD solar cells has rapidly increased up to ~8.6%, which corresponds to the 3 - 4 fold improvement during the last 3 - 4 years. Up to now, there have been many pioneering results in CQD solar cells. Here, we review the recent progress of CQD solar cells including CQD synthesis strategy and device structure engineering.

  • In this paper, synthetic conditions of titania nanparticle was investigated to enhance its uniformity of the particle size as a child particle on organic mother particle of liquid powder type electronic paper. The physical properties are very important to improve the uniformity of electrical charging properties Concentration of titania raw material ($C_9H_{19}NO_4Ti$) in the ethanol solvent, pH, and concentration of the solution in the D.I. water were selected as parameters. As a result, ultrafine and well crystallized titania nanoparticle with good uniformity could be synthesized as the concentration of the $C_9H_{19}NO_4Ti$ in the ethanol solvent, pH of the solution, and the amount of the D.I. water were increased. Using the optimized conditions, the titania nanparoticle with uniformly ultrafime size of 10 nm could be synthesized.

  • Significant progress has been realized in the design and synthesis of light emitting polymers with emission over the whole range of the visible spectrum. However up to seventy-five percent of charge recombination events can lead to triplet states that decay non-radiatively. Following the pioneering work in the field of small molecule organic light emitting devices it has been found that solution processible iridium polymer complexes can be used to harness the wasted triplet energy. In this paper new results concerning electrophosphorescence of solution processible tethered iridium polymer derivatives will be presented. Furthermore our approaches to the design of new high triplet energy conjugated polymer hosts will be reported.
