The technology of Semi-Solid Forging(SSF) has been actively developed to fabricate near net shape products using light and hardly formable materials. Generally the SSF process is composed of slug is compressed during a certain holding time in order to completely fill the die cavity and accelerate the solidification rate. The decision of compression time is important since it can affect microstructural characteristics, mechanical properties and shape of products.. In order to determine it proper overall heat transfer coefficient between the slug and dies should be investigated. This paper presents the procedure to find the overall heat transfer coefficient between the slug and dies by nonlinear optimization of temperature and solid fraction for a cylindrical slug at compression step in closed-die semi-solid forging. In finite ele-ment heat transfer analysis release of latent heat during solidification was considered. The influence of the predicted compression time on miscrostructural characteristics mechanimcal properties and shape of products is finally investigated by experiment.
An investigation has been conducted to describe solidification characteristics in Sn-Zn binary system and Sn-Zn-Ag ternary system added by Ag produced by the continuous casting process using heated mold as a basic study for developing Pb-free solder materials. To obtain the continuous casting rods with mirror surface and near net shape at higher casting speed, water flow rates must be increased and mold temperature must be lowered. However, surface tearing in the casting rods occured at lower continuous casting speed while break out occured at higher continuous casting speed even if optimum conditions such as water flow rate and heated mold temperature are determined. Primary ${\alpha}Sn$ and eutectic structure in unidirectioally solidified Sn-Zn alloys were finer with increased casting speed. But, directionality may not be expected for primary Zn in hypereutectic Sn-Zn alloy. It was found that the addition of $0.2{\sim}0.8%$ Ag promoted the growth of primary ${\alpha}Sn$ dendrites. The changes of tensile strength and elongation in Sn-Zn binary alloys were not observed while the increase of tensile strength and the decrease of elongation in Sn-Zn-Ag ternary alloys were observed with increased casting speed.
Amorphous alloys have also been called glassy alloys or non-crystalline alloys. They are made by the rapid solidification. The solidification occurs so rapid that the atoms are frozen in their liquid configuration. There are unique magnetic, mechanical, electrical and corrosive behaviors which result form their amorphous structure. In the study. amorphous coatings were manufactured with Ni-Cr-B-Si powders by flame spray. Measurement of hardness, were resistance, corrosion resistance and observation of microstructures and XRD, DSC were performed to investigate characteristics of amorphous coatings. The experimental results obtained as follow: 1) Amorphous powders could not be manufactured with the spraying in the spraying in the liquid nitrogen. But, amorphous coatings could be manufactured with the rotation cooling method by liquid nitrogen. In the fabrication of amorphous coatings, major factor was the rapid cooling by rotation of the substrate. 2) Hardness of coatings was obtained Hv 960 by formation of amorphous phase. But, wear resistance decreased. That was due to porosity in the coatings by the rapid cooling. 3) In the case of corrosion resistance, amorphous coatings were superior to air-cooled coatings. That was due to formation of amorphous phase. 4) After amorphous coatings were heat-treated at 520℃ for 1hr. hardness increased 80% and wear resistance increased 30% comparing with air cooled coatings. These were due to crystallization of amorphous phase and decrease of porosity by heat-treatment.
Silica sand, zircon sand, and steel shots were used as mold packing materials in lost foam casting of the aluminum alloy bar. Vibration acceleration in three directions and temperatures in the casting and mold were measured, and packing and cooling characteristics of these materials were investigated. Packing densities increased with increase in vibration magnitude and time, and were $1.41{\sim}1.49g/cm^2$ for silica sand, $2.54{\sim}2.86g/cm^2$ for zircon sand, and $3.92{\sim}4.52g/cm^2$ for steel shots. Sound castings were obtained only without evacuation of the flask during pouring. Solidification time became faster in order of silica sand, zircon sand and steel shot packing because steel shot has the highest cooling capacity of them. Solidification time of steel shot packing was shortened to about 1/2 of silica sand packing. Cooling capacity of sand mold was generally evaluated by heat diffusivity of the mold, however could be simply evaluated with specific heat per unit volume of the packing material in lost foam casting.
In this study, the mixed design of grout with hish strength.high permeation.high durability and environmental stability as the state of the art in material field was performed. Also, the subjects of grouting, grouting effects for ground conditions, and environmental effects were analyzed. According to these results, the fundamental data will be suggested as a design of grouting in the field application. The physical, mechanical and chemical characteristics with particle shape of the grouts were analyzed. Then, the gel-time of grouts, which is essential for workability and permeation range, were controlled. Also, the laboratory model grouting tests were performed to find the characteristics of solidification, permeation and durability with grouts. The ordinary portland, slag and microcement which have been used in the construction field were evaluated fur the environmental effects. To find the leaching of $Cr^{6+}$characteristics in cement grouts, $Cr^{6+}$ leaching tests were performed for the raw materials. Also, the results of leaching test were shorn by surrounding environment. Then, the unconfined compression strength tests were performed with the homo-gel samples, and the amount of changed $Cr^{6+}$ was measured by curing solution.
In this study, it is performed that mix design of grouting materials which high strength, durability and environmentally safe materials for 2 types of suspension, solution grouting. The laboratory model tests such as permeation, solidification tests are performed to find injection effects by the injection pressure, soil condition. And environmental effects of the grouting materials is analyzed through the heavy-metal leaching tests. From the results, micro cement of suspension grouting superior permeation, solidification injection to Portland cement, and phosphoric acid and sodium hydrogen carbonate in solution grouting were similar to micro cement of suspension grouting. When compare to strength of grouted soils, micro cement of suspension grouting showed high compression strength to Portland cement. While, solution grouting showed very low compression strength comparing suspension grouting. Also, in the heavy-metal leaching tests results were satisfied with the environmental regulation standard for raw grouting materials and grouted soil by 7, 14, 28days curing.

This paper deals with the anisotropy of the mushy region during solidification process of a binary mixture. A theoretical model which specifies a permeability tensor in terms of pricipal values is proposed. Also, the governing equations are modified into convenient forms for the numerical analysis with the existing algorithm. Some test computations are performed for soeidification of aqueous ammonium chloride solution contained in a square cavity. Results show that not only the present model is capable of resolving fundamental characteristics of the tranport phenomena, but also the anisotropy significantly affects the interdendritic flow structure, i.e., double-diffusive convection and macrosegregation patterns.
