  • 다이오드 레이저의 개발과 발달에 의해 고출력의 다이오드 펌핑 고체 레이저(DPSSL, Doode-Pumped Solid State Laser)가 개발되었고 다양한 분야에서 그 응용성이 증가하고 있다. 고출력 레이저 발생의 경우에 펌핑에 의한 레이저 매질 내부의 열 발생이 중요하게 대두되고, 이러한 열로 인해 레이저 빔의 왜곡이 생겨나 빔질이 저하된다. 레이저 빔질의 개선은 가우시안(Gaussian) 분포를 따르는 빔에 대해 기술하고 있는 광학 공식들과 직접적인 산업현장에서의 유용성 때문에 매우 중요한 문제가 된다.   • All solid-state UV lasers provide efficient, clean and semipermanent light sources for various applications, such as eye surgery, microchip lithography. $CsLiB_{6}O_{10}$ (CLBO) is one of the most suitable crystals for UV generation because of its small walk-off, large effective nonlinear susceptibility in UV region and high damage threshold. We produced fourth (266 nm) and fifth (213 nm) harmonic generation of an Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm) with $LiB_{3}O_{5}$ as a second harmonic generation medium and CLBO as a fourth harmonic and fifth harmonic mediums.   • In this paper, we investigated the diffraction grating efficiency on AsSeS and Ag-doped amorphous chalcogenide Ag/AsSeS thin film for used to volume hologram. The Chalcogenide film thickness was 0.5um and Ag thin film was varied from 10nm and 20nm. Diffraction efficiency was obtained from (P:P) polarized Diode Pumped Solid State laser(DPSS, 532.0nm: 200mW) beam on AsSeS and Ag/AsSeS thin films. As a results, diffraction grating was not formed at AsSeS thin film but at Ag-doped AsSeS thin film, diffraction grating was formed well compare with the former.

  • Strontium-substituted $Sr_{1-x}Ba_xAl_2O_4:Eu^{2+},\;Dy^{3+}$ compositions were prepared by the solid state synthesis method. These compositions were characterized for their phase, crystallinity and morphology using powder x-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. Photoluminescence properties were investigated by measuring excitation spectra, emission spectra and decay time for varying Ba/Sr concentrations. Photoluminescence results show higher luminescence and long decay time for $Sr_{1-x}Ba_xAl_2O_4:Eu^{2+},\;Dy^{3+}$(x=0). This is probably due to the influence of the 5d electron states of $Eu^{2+}$ in the crystal field. Long persistence was observed for these compositions due to $Dy^{3+}$ co-doping.

  • A Cr:YAG crystal was used as a saturable absorber for passive Q-switching of a Nd:$YVO_4$ laser which was pumped by a 1-W continuous wave laser diode. The first surface of the Cr:YAG was high-reflection coated for the pump wavelength. The high-reflection coating improved the absorption efficiency of the pump beam in the Nd:$YVO_4$ through double pass absorption. It also prevented pump beam induced partial bleaching of the Cr:YAG. The peak-to-peak pulse fluctuation of passively Q-switched laser output was approximately 4 %. The minimum pulse-width was measured to be 7.11 ns. Also, the average pulse repetition rate was 9 kHz and the maximum output power was 16.27 mW.

  • Ba$_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ (YBCO) thin films were deposited by pulsed laser deposition using differently prepared targets: One was a conventionally solid-state sintered (SSS) target and the other was a modified melt-textured grown (MTC) target. Compared with SSS targets, MTG targets showed a well-connected microstructure consisting of much larger grains and the surface was Bess roughened with the cumulative laser incidence. YBCO films deposited from MTC targets showed a denser and smoother surface of the basal film than the case of SSS targets. The investigations of ${\alpha}$-axis outgrowths in the films indicated that the deposition using MTG targets would result in a more homogeneous and stable film growth as compared to the SSS targets. Also, TEM analysis revealed that the film deposited from MTG targets had a less granular microstructure that would reduce weak-link effects in the film.

  • We report on a continuous-wave (cw) optical parametric oscillator (OPO) optimized for mid-infrared emission above 5.0 ㎛. The OPO is based on a magnesium-oxide-doped periodically poled LiNbO3(MgO:PPLN) crystal with a fan-out grating design. A linear two-mirror cavity resonating both at the pump and signal wavelengths is stabilized to the pump laser by using the modified Pound-Drever-Hall (PDH) method. The idler wavelength is continuously tunable from 4.7 ㎛ up to 5.3 ㎛ by varying the poling period of the fan-out grating crystal. Pumped by a diode-pumped solid state (DPSS) laser with a power of 1.1 W at 1064 nm, the maximum idler output power is measured to be 5.3 mW at 4.8 ㎛. The output power above 5.0 ㎛ is reduced to the hundreds of ㎼ level due to increased absorption in the crystal, but is stable and strong enough to be measured with a conventional detector.

  • In this study. a solid-state laser system adopting a sequential discharge method in which three flashlamps are turned on sequently was designed and fabricated to examine the pulse width and the pulse shape of the laser beams depending upon the changes in the lamp turn-on time. That is, this study shows a technology that makes it possible to make various pulse shapes by turning on three flashlamps sequently with the aid of a PIC one-chip microprocessor. With this technique, the lamp turn-on delay time can be varied more diversely from a to lamp and the real-time control is possible with an external keyboard, enabling various pulse shapes. In addition, longer pulses can be more widely used for industrial processing and lots of medical purposes.

  • Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are structures of carbon atoms bonded together in hexagonal honeycomb shapes, with multi-walled CNTs having a very high thermal conductivity of $3000W/m{\cdot}K$ and single-walled CNTs having a conductivity of $6000W/m{\cdot}K$. In this work, the transmittance and the thermal diffusivity of a multi-walled carbon nanotube dispersion with a concentration of 1.5 M were measured using a single beam method, a dual beam method, and the thermal lens effect. The nonlinear optical coefficients were obtained by using the z-scan method, which moved the sample in the direction of propagation of the single laser beam, propagation and the thermal diffusivity was measured using a double laser beam. As a pump beam, a diode-pumped solid state (DPSS) laser with a wavelength of 532 nm and an intensity of 100 mW was used. As the probe beam, a He-Ne laser having a wavelength of 633 nm and an intensity of 5 mW was used. The experimental result shows that when the concentrations of the sample were 9.99, 11.10, 16.65, and 19.98 mM, the nonlinear absorption coefficients were 0.046, 0.051, 0.136 and 0.169 m/W, respectively. Also, the nonlinear refractive indices were 0.20, 0.51, 1.25 and $1.32{\times}10^{-11}m^2/W$, respectively, and the average thermal diffusivity was $1.33{\times}10^{-6}m^2/s$.
