  • Photovoltaic (PV) power system prices have been steadily dropping in recent years due to their mass production and advances in relevant technology. Crystalline silicon (c-Si wafers) account for the largest share of the price of solar cells; reducing the thickness of these wafers is an essential part of increasing the price competitiveness of PV power systems. However, reducing the thickness of c-Si wafers is challenging; typically, phenomena such as bowing and cracking are encountered. While several approaches to address the bowing phenomenon of the c-Si solar cells exist, the only method to study the crack phenomenon (related to the strength of the c-Si solar cells) is the bending test method. Moreover, studies on determining the strength properties of the solar cells have focused largely on c-Si wafers, while those on the strength properties of front and rear-side electrodes and SiNx, the other components of c-Si solar cells, are scarce. In this study, we analyzed the strength characteristics of each layer of c-Si solar cells. The strength characteristics of the sawing mark direction produced during the production of c-Si wafers were also tested. Experiments were conducted using a 4bending tester for a specially manufactured c-Si solar cell. The results indicate that the back side electrode is the main component that experienced bowing, while the front electrode was the primary component regulating the strength of the c-Si solar cell.

  • This paper discusses a common message protocol for green power systems such as tidal, wind, photovoltaic, and solar systems. For this investigations and analysis, existing protocols such as ELCOM-90, TASE.1, ICCP/TASE.2 and SCADA were analyzed for the application of green power systems in view of real-time property and reliability. For the analysis, the practical example of green power system using SACADA and ICCP are investigated and discussed. As a future direction of this investigations, the feasibility analysis of manufacturing message specification(ISO-9560) for green power system is discussed.

  • Data-Acquisition systems are widely used in Photovoltaic(PV) system application in order to analyze and optimize the performance of PV systems. In this paper, the development of a computer-based data-acquisition system and its application are described. The proposed Computer-based data-acquisition System consists of a set of sensors for measuring both environmental and electrical parameters. The collected data are first conditioned and then interfaced to PC using a data-acquisition card. The Labview program was used to further process, display on the monitor at real time and store on the hard disk. We designed and installed two stand-alone PV systems to supply different loads, which in this case a Low Pressure Sodium(LPS) 55 [W] lamp and a electrodless 55 [W] lamp. When the proposed data acquisition system is applied on the designed PV systems, Optimized system operation methods are investigated to confirm a stable load availability and extend battery life time.

  • Since efficiency of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is important for photovoltaic systems, a number of MPPT algorithms have already been researched for other environment, however, the most of MPPT algorithms can't track maximum point in dynamic irradiation. In this paper, P&O and 3-Point MPPT which is more specialized in dynamic irradiation are compared in basis of European Efficiency Test(EN50530). The efficiency of 3-Point MPPT algorithm is proved by simulation and experiment. In result, 3-Point MPPT shows higher efficiency in dynamic irradiation and less affected by environment than P&O.

  • Recently, renewable energy sources are under the spotlight. due to the depletion of fossil fuels and environmental problem for the carbon dioxide. Among them, research on the Photovoltaic System using solar energy systems has been actively conducted. In this paper, we propose boosting the insulated DC/DC converter topologies Applied to soft-switching methods used in photovoltaic PCS. The proposed topology is of a type that combines a series of full-bridge converter and a boost converter, a full bridge converter and applying the insulation and soft switching system, the output voltage boost stage is carried out for the boost control. The proposed circuit validity was verified through the PSIM simulation and 5kW PV PCS Prototype and experiments.

  • Deposition of silicon on pretreated sapphire substrates has been investigated by the liquid phase epitaxy method at low temperatures. An average 14 $\mu\textrm{m}$ thickness of silicon was grown over a large area on sapphire substrate originally coated with a much thinner silicon layer $[0.5 \mu\textrm{m} (100) Si/(1102) sapphire]$ at low temperatures from $(380^{\circ}C to 460^{\circ}C)$.

  • This paper outlines the processes and strategies studied and selected by the team during the design stages of the project for the incorporation of BIPV into the tower's façade. The goal was to create a system that helps reduce internal heating and cooling loads while collecting energy through photovoltaic panels located throughout the building. The process used to develop this façade system can be broken down into three stages. 1. Concept: BIPV as design catalyst for a high-rise building. 2. Optimization: Balancing BIPV and Human comfort. 3. Integration: Incorporating BIPV into a custom curtain wall design. The FKI Project clearly illustrates the evolution building enclosures from simple wall systems to high performance integrated architectural and engineering design solutions. This design process and execution of this project represent the design philosophy of our firm.

  • This paper presents a study of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for photovoltaic arrays with only one current sensor. Initially, a review of MPPT methods with only a current sensor is performed with extension for a variety of dc/dc converters. Furthermore, the same topology is developed to achieve better performance in the presence of sensor offset and environmental noise. The proposed method is robust, cost effective, and behaves well dynamically and in the steady state. After a theoretical analysis of presented approach, its validity and effectiveness are verified by simulation and experimental results.

  • As global warming due to burning fossil fuels and natural resource depletion issues have emerged, the development of renewable energy sources such as photovoltaics (PV) has been brought to recent interest. Amongst the vast efforts to harvest and convert solar energy into electricity, the module integrated converters (MIC) has become a worthy topic of research for grid-connected photovoltaic systems. Due to the required high-boosting qualities, only a restricted amount of DC/DC converter topologies can be applied to MICs. This paper investigates the possibility of a tapped-inductor boost converter as a candidate for PV MICs. A dual-inductor interleaving scheme operating slightly above the boundary of the two conduction modes (BCM) is suggested for reduction of input current ripple and minimization of component stress. A digital controller is used for implementation, assuring maximum power tracking and transfer while providing sufficient computational space for other grid connectivity applications, etc. For verification, a 200W converter is designed and simulated via computer software including component losses. High efficiency over a wide power range proves the feasibility of the proposed PV MIC system.
