A serious problem of the 21st century is the supply of energy resources. Reserves of fossil fuels are facing depletion: renewable energy resources must be developed in this era. Dye sensitized solar cell (DSC) has been very economical and easy method to convert solar energy to electricity. Recently a novel tandem cell structure is proposed to improve photocurrent of DSC. To fabricated a tandem cell, the mesh structure of counter electrode is essential for the improvement in transmittance. In this study, we conducted the experiment to get the characteristic of DSC with mesh counter electrode. Under the standard test condition (AM 1.5, 100mW/$cm^2$), we obtained the maximum efficiency of 3.41% and the transmittance of 72% in the DSC with mesh counter electrode.
The demand for steady and dependable power sources is very high in the field of sustainable energy because of the limited amount of fossil fuels reserves. Among several sustainable alternatives, solar energy may be the most efficient solution because it constitutes the largest renewable energy source. So far, the only practical way to store such large amounts of energy has been to use a chemical energy carrier likewise a fuel. In various solar energy to power conversion systems, the photoelectrochemical (PEC) splitting of water into hydrogen and oxygen by the direct use of solar energy is an ideal process. It is a renewable method of hydrogen production integrated with solar energy absorption and water electrolysis using a single photoelectrode. Previous studies on photoelectrode films for PEC water splitting cells have been mainly focused on synthesizing oxide semiconductors with wide band gaps, such as TiO2(3.2eV), WO3(2.8eV), and Fe2O3(2.3eV). Unfortunately, these pristine oxide photoanodes without any catalysts have relatively low photocurrent densities because of the inherent limitation of insufficient visible light absorption due to the wide bandgap. Specifically, there is a tradeoff between high photocurrent and photoelectrochemical corrosion behavior, which is representative of figures of meritf or PEC materials.
Serious environmental problems have been caused by the greenhouse effect due to carbon dioxide($CO_2$) or nitrogen oxides($NO_x$) generated by the use of fossil fuels, including oil and liquefied natural gas. Many countries, including our own, the United States, those of the European Union and other developed countries around the world; have shown growing interest in clean energy, and have been concentrating on the development of new energy-saving materials and devices. Typical non-fossil-fuel sources include solar cells, wind power, tidal power, nuclear power, and fuel cells. In particular, organic solar cells(OSCs) have relatively low power-conversion efficiency(PCE) in comparison with inorganic(silicon) based solar cells, compound semiconductor solar cells and the CIGS [$Cu(In_{1-x}Ga_x)Se_2$] thin film solar cells. Recently, organic cell efficiencies greater than 10 % have been obtained by means of the development of new organic semiconducting materials, which feature improvements in crystalline properties, as well as in the quantum-dot nano-structure of the active layers. In this paper, a brief overview of solar cells in general is presented. In particular, the current development status of the next-generation OSCs including their operation principle, device-manufacturing processes, and improvements in the PCE are described.
The use of petroleum fuels in grain drying causes problems of high cost and management. To solve these problems, it is required to study on soLar energy as an alternative to petroleum fuels for grain drying. The purposes of this study were to find out the optimum received area and air flow rate of a flat-plate solar air collector for grain drying and to assess its effects on grain drying with a small grain bin. The results of this study are summarized as follows ; 1. The calculated optimum tilt angles of the collector in the summer and autumn drying seasons were 20 and 50 degress, respectively, in suwon area. 2. The outlet temperature of the collector was $36^\circ C$ on the daily average with the maximum of $36^\circ C$ at 12:00 o clock. Solar radiation on the collector surface was 1.04 ly( 1 langley = 1 cal/$cm^2$) per minute on the daily average and 1.30 ly per minute on the maximum at 11:00am. The thermal efficiency of the collector was 62.4 percent on the daily average, and the air flow-rate per unit receiving are was 1.03 $m^3$/min/$m^2$.4. The calculated optimum receiving area and the air flow-rate per unit cubic volume for paddy in autumn drying season was 2 $m^2$ and 2$m^3$/min , respectively. 5. not significantly difference in the collector efficiency was appeared between the rotating and fixed type of solar collector. 6. For drying of wheat with 0.6 meter of the depth in the bin, approximately 9 hours were required to reduce the moisture content from 21.6% to 13% with air follow rate of 5 $m^3$/min an initial moisture per cubic meter of wheat and with air temperature of $52^\circ C$. 7. In the drying test of rough rice with a turning operation in a grain bin approximately 21 hours were required to reduced the moisture from 21% to 14.5% with airflow rate of 2 $m^3$/min per cubic meter of rice and the air temperature of $43.5^\circ C$. 8. Over-drying at the bottom and less -drying at the top of the grain mass was resulted from the high -temperature of drying air which was obtained from the flat-plate solar collector in this test. An appropriate operation should be prepared for the uniform moisture of the grain in the bin.
This paper presents a basic energy performance data of micro gas turbine, Renewable Energy(BIPV and Solar Collector System, geothermal system) and a hybrid energy system(geothermal system and microturbine) installed in Hospital Building. The efficiency of solar collector and BIPV system was 30%, 10% individually, and lower than micro gas turbines. Micro gas turbines are small gas turbines that bum gaseous and liquid fuels to produce a high-energy exhaust gas and to generate the electrical power. Recently, the size range for micro gas turbines is form 30 to 500kW and power-only generation or in combined heat and power(CHP) systems. Finally, in energy performance aspect, Micro gas turbine system and hybrid energy system were high-efficiency system in hospital building. Hybrid energy system also give us a powerful alternative energy system economically.

Renewable energy resources will be an increasingly important part of power generation in the new millennium. Besides assisting in the reduction of the emission of greenhouse gases, they add the much needed flexibility to the energy resource mix by decreasing the dependence on fossil fuels. Due to their modular characteristics, ease of installation and because they can be located closer to the user, PV system have great potential as distributed power source to the utilities. In this paper, a dc-de power converter scheme with the push-pull based technology is proposed to apply for solar power system which has many features such as high efficiency, stable output, and low acoustic noises, DC-DC converter is used in proposed topology has stable efficiency curve at all load range and very high efficiency characteristics. This paper presents the design of a single-phase photovoltaic inverter model and the simulation of its performance.
This research has been carried out to give economical incentives and to promote for the eco-friendly village. A standard model plan for the Korean eco-village has been prepared by systematically applying the results of the research to Boksoo village, which served as an exemplary model. Plans for promoting the Korean eco-village are finally derived after a series of theoretical assessment of conceptual propositions in harnessing natural elements well suited with man-made structures. The eco-friendly village that this study is to develop harnesses natural energy resources and establishes pleasant living environment for human. It minimizes the unjust load against nature and restrains the excessive consumption of irreplaceable indigenous energy and other natural resources on earth. Paraphrasing, the utilization of natural energy resources in the eco-friendly village features various schemes of the related technologies in energy conservation and exploitation of renewable energies including solar thermal, photovoltaic, daylighting, wind power and etc. The eco-friendly village would definitely make our world more healthier than before by suppressing the emission of green house gases from fossil fuels and ever increasing energy consumption.
Dye-sensitized Solar Cells(DSSCs) which convert incident sun light into electricity were expected to overcome global warming and depletion of fossil fuels. And it is one of study that is lately getting into the spotlight because manufacturing method is more simple and inexpensive than existing silicon solar cells. In this respect, DSSCs are in the limelight as the next generation solar cells. DSSCs are generally composed of a dye-modified $TiO_2$ photoelectrode, a Pt counter electrode, and an electrolytes containing a redox couple$(I^-/I_3^-)$. Among these elements, pt electrode were prepared by applying electric potential to FTO substrate in the $H_2PtCl_6$ solution. In this study, we report the solar cell efficiency depending on $PtCl_4$ concentration change. $PtCl_4$ concentration was 1mM, 5mM, 10mM, and 20mM, and adhered on FTO glass substrate by sintering process. When applied each $PtCl_4$ counter electrode on DSSC, the best efficiency was found at 10mM of $PtCl_4$ concentration. The catalyst promotes the movement of electron from the counter electrode to the electrolyte the higher the molarity, the better the efficiency. However, in case of 20mM, it is estimated that over-deposited $PtCl_4$ tends to restrict the movement of electron due to its bundle formation.
A serious problem of the 21st century is the supply of energy resources. Reserves of fossil fuels are facing depletion: renewable energy resources must be developed in this era. Dye sensitizedsolar cells(DSC) have been very economical and easy method to convert solar energy to electricity. DSC can reach low costs in future outdoor power applications. However, to commercialize the DSC, there are still many shortages to overcome. When the DSC is commercialized in the near future, the productivity is an important factor. In the process of soaking in a dye, it usually takes $12\sim24$ hours. In this study, we varied the dye coloring temperature from $0^{\circ}C$ to $60^{\circ}C$. At the temperature of $40^{\circ}C$, DSC cell showed the best performance. We also expect the reduction of the time soaking in a dye. Counter electrode surface of DSC is deposited by RF magnetron sputtering under the conditions of Ar $2.8{\times}10^{-3}$ torr, RF power of 120W and substrate temperature of $100^{\circ}C$.
In view of global environmental problems and resource exhaustion, we must develop new energy resources that are abundant and provide substitutes for fossil fuels. Renewable energies, such as solar, are ideal because they are clean, inexhaustible, and available everywhere in the world. Photovoltaic(PV) system, in general, are operated as a stand-alone, grid-tied, or hybrid system. Many of the stand-alone PV systems are installed. Although the pre-installation cost of PV system is high, it poorly has been operated due to the absence of optimal management standards. Therefore a study on the performance of PV system is important for the system design and maintenance. In this paper a photovoltaic lighting system was resigned according to load consumption. Then a PV lighting system which used electrodeless lamp as a load was installed. In order to investigate the system operating characteristics we've added a monitoring system to the PV lighting system. The monitoring system using the LabVIEW program regularly checks the operation of the PV lighting system and records the system data. According to the system data, the stability and availability of the PV lighting system were evaluated.
