  • The objective of this work is to analyze the variation in energy performance for each flat plate collector connected in series. In this study, it was assumed that solar water heating system with annual solar fraction of 60% was installed in an office building in Seoul, South Korea. The transient energy performance corresponding to four cases, which are selected using different solar radiation and outdoor air temperature, is studied by analyzing the variation in outlet temperature, solar useful heat gain, and thermal efficiency of each collector. It is observed that the useful heat gain and the collector efficiency decrease continuously, and outlet temperature increases when increasing the number of collector connected in series. The long-term performance is assessed by evaluating the thermal efficiency of each collector for two solar radiation conditions ranging from 780 to $820W/m^2$ and from 380 to $420W/m^2$. It is found that the differences between the intercept and slope of the efficiency curves for first and eighth collectors are 3.68% and 6.74% for solar radiation of $800{\pm}20W/m^2$ and 8.57% and 12.90% for solar radiation of $400{\pm}20W/m^2$, respectively. In addition, it is interesting to note that annual useful heat gain and collector efficiency are reduced with similar rate of about 6.13% when increasing the collector area by connecting the collectors in series.

  • Photovoltaic-thermal(PVT) collectors are a combination of photovoltaic modules with solar thermal collectors, forming one device that receives solar radiation and produces electricity and heat simultaneously. Of various PV modules, dye-sensitized solar cell(DSC) is a relatively new type of solar cell technology that can transmit light while they can generate electricity. With this aspect, DSC can be applied into solar thermal collectors. The object of this study is to evaluate the thermal performance of PVT collector with DSC. The thermal performance of the DSC PVT combind collector was measured in outdoor conditions with the solar radiation of over $700W/m^2$. In this study, the PVT collector with the 30% light transmittance of DSC achieved its thermal efficiency of about 36%.

  • In this study, the performance of solar assisted hybrid heat pump system with cloud cover were analyzed by using experimental method in spring season. It was consisted of concentric evacuated tube solar collector, heat medium tank, heat storage tank, heat pump, and so on. As a result, the solar radiation should be maintained over $4.1\;MJ/m^2$ in order to operate solar heating system for heating. Solar heat of collector wasn't affected by ambient temperature, but cloud cover has a big effect to collector efficiency. In addition, the collector efficiency is about 50-60%, and solar fraction is 40% for this system.

  • This paper has been carried out to find the thermal efficiency and operating characteristics of heatpipe type solar collector using a glass concentric evacuated tube(CETC) during summer. In an experiment the flow rate of water in collector are 1.5l/min. Collector efficiency is $50{\sim}60%$ during time. The solar radiation appeared in a clear day is efficiency high. Efficiency curve fitted first order polynomial show that $F_{R}$$({\tau}{\alpha})$ and $F_{R}U_{L}$=1.316 is 0.601 and 1.316 respectively.

  • The thermal performance of the glass evacuated tube solar collector is numerically investigated. The glass evacuated tube solar collector consists of a two-layed glass tube, a copper tube, and the working fluid. The length and the diameter of the glass tube are 1,200mm and 38mm, respectively. The diameter, thickness, and length of the copper tube and the flow rate of air are considered as the important design and operating parameters of the collector. The effect of these parameters on the thermal performance of the collector are investigated. The results show that as the diameter, the thickness, and the length of the copper tube increase and the flow rate of the air decreases, the thermal performance and the outlet mean temperature increase.

  • In this study, a simulation program was developed with heat transfer model in the thermal storage tank for a solar collector and burner combined heating and hot water supply system. Analysis was conducted with variation of operating condition and schedule to analyze performance of a hot water supply and panel heating system with a solar collector and burner combined thermal storage tank. The simulation program is divided two sections. One part is calculation of temperature variation of water which flows through the panel in the floor for heating of the residential house during 24 hours, and the other part is heat transfer calculation for the reaction time to get desired water temperature in the thermal storage tank. As results, light oil consumption and system performance during operation period were analyzed with variation of climate condition and with or without solar collector. Most of the case, oil could be saved about from 24 to 41% with installing the solar collector. The performance of the system is more dependent on radiation time of the solar collector rather than the intensity of the solar radiation which was adopted for the climate analysis.

  • Nowaday the conventional solar collector material prices are rising up because of pricy metal material over the world. The solar collector is too expensive to recycle to save the earth. Advanced polymer research is founded a high thermal resistant polymer and also it has high sun energy transmission. It also has cheaper material and easy manufacturing process, compare with conventional solar collector material. This paper is focussing on glazing simulation of polymer solar collector against wind pressure. The modeling geometry of polymer solar glazing are purposed by single layer, double layer hollow, zig-zag and tower. A simulation by using the Finite Volume was conducted to get Factor of Safety (FoS). The purpose of this paper is to find the best polymer glazing design, which can be as reference for the solar collector company to build Polymer. Hope fully new model of polymer solar collector has cheap, light, high sun energy transmitter, easy to be made and strong against wind force characteristics.

  • Aim of this study was to obtain the heating performance and the economic evaluation on solar heating system for greenhouse which area of floor was $90m^2$. For heating performance effective solar energy for the greenhouse was compared with overall heating loads including coefficient of heat transfer and conduction. And the economic evaluation solar heating system was evaluated by comparison its initial investiment costing with oil saving cost. Initial investiment costing included collector cost, storage cost, piping cost, control system cost and miscellaneous costs which included pumps, motors etc. The contents of this study included the survey of climate conditions for solar heating, long-term collector performance and optimum collector area of solar heating system in existing greenhouse. The results are follows: 1. Average horizontal radiation during winter was $2,434Kcal/m^2$ day which was the highest value in this country, so the climate conditions of Suwon was suitable for solar heating. 2. Resulting calculation of the optimum collector area was $30m^2$ and the solar energy accounted for 30% of the overall heating load. 3. The capacity of storage tank required 60 liter per unit area ($m^2$) of solar collector.

  • Purpose: The objectives of this study were to construct the solar drying system with evacuated tubular solar collector and to investigate its performance in comparison with indoor and outdoor dryings. Methods: Solar drying system was constructed with using CPC (compound parabolic concentrator) evacuated tubular solar collector. Solar drying system is mainly composed of evacuated tubular solar collector with CPC reflector, storage tank, water-to-air heat exchanger, auxiliary heater, and drying chamber. Performance test of solar drying system was conducted with drying of agricultural products such as sliced radish, potato, carrot, and oyster mushroom. Drying characteristics of agricultural products in solar drying system were compared with those of indoor and outdoor ones. Results: Solar drying system showed considerable effect on reducing the half drying time for all drying samples. However, outdoor drying was more effective than indoor drying on shortening the half drying time for all of drying samples. Solar drying system and outdoor drying for oyster mushroom showed the same half drying time. Conclusions: Oyster mushroom could be dried easily under outdoor drying until MR (Moisture Ratio) was reached to about 0.2. However, solar drying system showed great effect on drying for most samples compared with indoor and outdoor dryings, when MR was less than 0.5.
