Synthesis of Hybrid Sol Based on ZrO2-SiO2 System and their Coating Properties

  • Organic-inorganic hybrid sol based on ZrO$_2$-SiO$_2$ system was prepared by sol-gel process. Firstly, ZrO$_2$ non-aqueous precursor sol was synthesized and then organosilane compounds which include epoxy silane (GPTS; 3-g1ycidoxypropyl tri-methoxysilane) and acryl silane (ACS; (3-(tri-methoxysilyl)propylmethacrylate)) were added to ZrO$_2$precursor sol for hybridization. Finally, com-mercial silica sol was added to improve the mechanical properties. Synthesized organic-inorganic Zr-hybrid sol was coated on polycarbonate substrate for enhancing it’s mechanical properties, especially hardness. Vicker’s hardness of polycarbonate sub strate was increased from 13.6 to 17.8 MPa and its pencil hardness was increased from 2 to 7 H, respectively, after coating and drying at 10$0^{\circ}C$ for 30 min.

Preparation and Electrical Properties of Lead Zirconate Titanate Thick Films Fabricated by Screen-Printing Method (스크린 프린팅으로 제작된 $Pb(Zr,\;Ti)O_3$ 후막의 제작과 전기적 특성)

  • PZT(80/0) powder was prepared by a sol-gel method and PZT thick films were fabricated by the screen-printing method on the alumina substrates. The coating and drying procedure was repeated 4 times. And then the PZT(20/80) precusor solution was spin-coated on the PZT thick films. A concentration of a coating solution was 0.5mol/L and the number of coating was varied from 0 to 6. The porosity decreased and the grain size increased with increasing the number of coatings. The thickness of the PZT-6(6: number of coatings) films was about $60{\mu}m$. The relative dielectric constant increased and the dielectric loss decreased with increasing the number of PZT(20/80) sol coatings. The relative dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the PZT-6 thick film were 275 and 3.5%, respectively. The remanent polarization, coercive field and breakdown strength of the PZT-6 film were $19.8{\mu}C/cm^2$, 13.7kV/cm and 130kV/cm, respectively.

Fabrication of Hydrophobic Anti-Reflection Coating Film by Using Sol-gel Method (Sol-gel 법을 이용한 내오염 반사방지 코팅막 제조)

  • Anti-reflection coating films have used to increase the transmittance of displays and enhance the efficiency of solar cells. Hydrophobic anti-reflection coating films were fabricated on a glass substrate by sol-gel method. To fabricate an anti-reflection film with a high transmittance, poly ethylene glycol (PEG) was added to tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) solution. The content of PEG was changed from 1 to 4 wt% in order to control the morphology, thickness, and refractive index of the $SiO_2$ thin films. The reflectance and transmittance of both sides of the coated thin film fabricated with PEG 4 wt% solution were 0.3% and 99.4% at 500 nm wavelength. The refractive index and thickness of the thin film were n = 1.29 and d = 105 nm. Fluoro alkyl silane (FAS) was used for hydrophobic treatment on the surface of the anti-reflection thin film. The contact angle was increased from $13.2^{\circ}$ to $113.7^{\circ}$ after hydrophobic treatment.

Fabrication of anti-reflection thin film by using sol-gel hybrid solution (Sol-gel 하이브리드 용액을 이용한 반사방지막 제조)

  • Anti-reflection (AR) thin films were fabricated on a glass substrate by using an ultrasonic spray. Glycidoxypropyl trimethoxysilane (GPTMS) and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) were used to synthesize a sol-gel hybrid coating solution. The moving speed of spray nozzle was changed from 15~25 mm/s to control the coating thickness of AR thin film. As the moving speed of spray nozzle increased, the thickness of AR thin film decreased from 138 nm to 86 nm. When the AR thin film was fabricated by nozzle moving speed of 20 mm/s, the refractive index and thickness of AR thin film was measured to be 1.31 and 104 nm, respectively. The average reflectance and transmittance of AR thin film coating glass was measured to be 0.75 % and 94 %, respectively into the visible light range of 380~780 nm.

Hard Coatings on Polycarbonate Plate by Sol-Gel Process (폴리카보네이트 판 위에 졸-겔 과정을 이용한 하드 코팅)

  • The hard coatings on the polycarbonate plate were performed with the object of substitution the glass in the car to the polycarbonate plate. In this research, tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS), methyltriethoxysilane (MTES) were used to prepare the coatings by sol-gel process. The optimum conditions and formulation to get the excellent physical properties were determined. The pretreatment condition of polycarbonate plate, the mole ratio of TEOS and MTES, selection of the solvent, the aging time, the amount of acid catalyst, and the number of folds of coating were characterized. Pretreatment with poly(methyl methacrylate) was very effective to increase the adhesion strength. The smooth coating which got the 2 H class in pencil hardness was formed in this research by sol-gel process.

Syntheses of Novel Sol-Gel Precursor Containing Anti-corrosive Functional Group and Their Uses in Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Coatings (내부식성이 우수한 졸-젤 전구체의 합성 및 이를 함유하는 유무기 하이브리드 코팅재)

  • New sol-gel precursors having the ability to protect iron against corrosion were synthesized and used to prepare organic-inorganic hybrid coatings based on epoxy. Bisphenol A epoxy was modified with 3-isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane to improve the compatibility, and water and HCl were used as catalysts for sol-gel process. Various coating formulations were prepared depending on the type of sol-gel precursors and the amount of each ingredient, and cast on iron substrates by dip-coating and thermally cured. Corrosion protection properties of coated iron were studied by a salt spray test and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy under 0.1 M NaCl electrolyte. Hybrid coatings containing anticorrosive functional group exhibited excellent corrosion protection on iron, compared to that of typical hybrid coatings. From electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, the hybrid coatings containing anticorrosive functional group could maintaine the initial impedance after 500 h, while the impedance of hybrid coatings without them started to decrease after 24 h.

  • Self-patterning of thin films using photosensitive sol solution has advantages such as simple manufacturing process compared to photoresist/dry etching process. In this study,$La_{0.5}SR_{0.5}CoO_3$(LSCO) thin films as an electrode material for ferroelectric memories have been prepared by spin coating method using photosensitive sol solution. La-2methoxyethoxide, Sr-ethoxide, Co-2methoxyethoxide were used as starting materials. As UV exposure time to the LSCO gel thin film increased, the UV absorption peak intensity of metal${beta}$-diketonate decreased due to reduced solubility by M(metal)-O-M bond formation. Solubility difference by UV irradiation on LSCO gel thin film allows to obtain a fine patterning of thin film. The LSCO thin films annealed over$680{\circ}C$ in air showed perovskite phase and the lowest resistivity$(4{ imes}10^{-3}{Omega}cm)$ of the thin films were obtained by annealing at$740{\circ}C$.

Effect of the Introduction of UV Irradiation on Crystallization of Sr0.9Bi2.1Ta2O9 Thin Films by Sol-gel Method (UV노광 공정 도입이 Sol-gel 법으로 제조된 Sr0.9Bi2.1Ta2O9박막의 결정화에 미치는 영향)

  • $Sr_{0.9}Bi_{2.1}Ta_2O_9$thin films were deposited on $IrO_2$ electrode by spin coating method using photosensitive sol-gel solution. To ensure the UV-exposure effect on SBT thin films, UV irradiated films and non-UV irradiated films were analyzed by XRD, SEM. As a result, UV-irradiation on SBT thin films promoted grain growth of SBT compared with no UV irradiation. In case of the UV irradiated films annealed at$740{\circ}C$for 1 h in an oxygen ambient, the 2Pr value and Pr/Ps at${pm}5$V were$11.48{mu}C/cm^2$and 0.53, respectively. 2Pr values of the UV irradiated SBT thin films at$660-740{circ}C were approximately 12% higher than those of non-UV irradiated thin films.

  • We demonstrate the sol-gel coating technique of colloidal clusters for producing hollow micro-particles with complex morphologies. Cross-linked amidine polystyrene (PS) microspheres were synthesized by emulsifier-free emulsion copolymerization of styrene and divinylbenzene. The amidine PS particles were self-organized inside toluene-in-water emulsion droplets to produce large quantities of colloidally stable clusters. These clusters were coated with thin silica shell by sol-gel reaction of tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) and ammonia, and the organic polystyrene cores were removed by calcination at high temperature to generate nonspherical hollow micro-particles with complex morphologies. This process can be used to prepare hollow particles with shapes such as doublets, tetrahedra, icosahedra, and others.

  • The sols prepared by dialyzing solutions, in which the hydrolyzed precipitates of TEOT or directly Ti(OC3H7)4 were resolved, were the nanoparticulate sol with the average particle size less than 7 nm and the anatase crystal phase. In the pH range of 1.5 to 2.9, the particle size of the nanoparticulate TiO2 sols (0.09 mol/ι) increased gradually upto 15 nm~26nm with the increase of pH in the initial aging state but the sols were transparent all the time, and stable without growin any more after 30 days. When the slipcasted porous alumina tubes were coated by the sol-gel dipping method, the minimum particle size and the aging time for forming the coated gel layer at the given pH were optimized. For obtaining the very thin crack-free and reproducible membrane coating, the use of a nanoparticulate TiO2 sol (0.09 mol/ι) aged for about 30 dyas at pH=2.0 was found to be the best.
