Influence of Upland Soil Texture on Dry Weight and Growth of Yellow Mustard as a Landscape and Green Manure Crop

  • Although it is not a landscape crop according to MIFAFF(ministry of agriculture, food and rural affairs), yellow mustard is considered a superb landscape crop because of its growth and flower characteristics. We sowed yellow mustard as a landscape and green manure crop in upland soil (four types of soil texture) in spring. And we studied its flowering characteristics, dry weight, and nitrogen yield. The growths of yellow mustard were possible in every soil ranging from sandy soil to clay loam. Its height was 54.1 ~ 76.1cm and the number of node per hill was 11.3 ~ 17.0. Its flowers had a light yellow. It took about 44 ~ 50 days to flower, and flowered for 22~25 days. The dry weight of yellow mustard was $2.27{\sim}3.60tonha^{-1}$ with highest in sandy loam and loam. Among the nutrients of yellow mustard, nitrogen(T-N) was $12.6{\sim}20.8gkg^{-1}$, and C/N ratio was 21.6~37.7. The nitrogen yield of yellow mustard was $35{\sim}62kgha^{-1}$. In conclusion, because of its flowering characteristics and dry weight, yellow mustard was considered appropriate for both green manure and landscape crop uses.

Shear strength behavior of crude oil contaminated sand-concrete interface

  • A laboratory investigation into crude oil contaminated sand-concrete interface behavior is performed. The interface tests were carried out through a direct shear apparatus. Pure sand and sand-bentonite mixture with different crude oil contents and three concrete surfaces of different textures (smooth, semi-rough, and rough) were examined. The experimental results showed that the concrete surface texture is an effective factor in soil-concrete interface shear strength. The interface shear strength of the rough concrete surface was found higher than smooth and semi-rough concrete surfaces. In addition to the texture, the normal stress and the crude oil content also play important roles in interface shear strength. Moreover, the friction angle decreases with increasing crude oil content due to increase of oil concentration in soil and it increases with increasing interface roughness.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the Physico-chemical Properties of Maeye-Dong Experiment Forest Soils. It is important to get fundmental information for establishment of economic and enviromental forest stands. The results obtained from this study were as follows: 1. The range of soil texture was in loamy sand and sandy loam. 2. The pH of Maeye-Dong Experiment forest soils found to be lower than that of Korean brown forests. 3. Most of investigated areas were known to be lack of exchangeable cation and nitrogen. 4. Fertilizer application should be advanced for establishment of economic and enviromental forest stand.

약용작물(藥用作物)과 그 재배토양(栽培土壤)의 토성별(土性別) 중금속함량(重金屬含量) 분포(分布) (Distribution of Heavy Metal Contents in Medicinal Plants and Soils with Soil Texture)

  • 우리나라에서 재배되고 있는 약용작물인 당귀, 황기, 길경, 작약, 양유, 천궁, 시호 등의 생약재와 약초재배지 토양 254점을 채취하여 재배지의 토성을 분류하고 토성별 토양 및 생약재중 중금속함량을 분석 검토하여 얻어진 내용을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 약용작물 재배지의 토성별 분포비율은 사양토 46.1%, 양토 26.0%, 양질사토 19.3%, 미사질양토 8.6%이었고 중립질인 양질토양(사양토, 양토, 미사질양토)에서 염농도, 유기물, 치환성 Ca 및 Mg함량이 높았던 반면 조립질인 사질토양(양질사토)에서는 유효태 $P_2O_5$함량이 높았다. 2. 토성별 토양의 중금속 함량은 크롬을 제외한 모든 성분이 양질사토보다 양질토양에서 높았다. 3. 당귀 생약재는 사양토에서 카드뮴, 양토에서 구리 및 크롬함량이 각각 높았고, 황기는 사양토에서 납 및 아연, 양토에서 구리 및 크롬함량이 높았다. 4. 길경 생약재는 양질사토에서 납함량이 높았고, 양유는 양질사토에서 아연, 사양토에서 납함량이 각각 높았고 작약은 사양토에서 납함량이 높게 나타났다. 5. 토성별 토양의 중금속함량과 생약재 간의 관계는 구리는 사양토 및 양토에서, 아연은 양토에서, 크롬은 사양토, 양토 및 양질사토에서 각각 유의성 있는 정의 상관을 보였다. 6. 토양 pH와 토양 중 Cd, Pb, Zn 및 Ni함량과는 정의 상관, CU함량과는 부의상관을 보였으며 생약재중 Cu함량과 정의 상관, Cd, Zn 및 Ni함량과는 부의 상관을 보였다.

한국(韓國)의 삼림토양(森林土壤)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究)(I) (Studies on Forest Soils in Korea (I))

  • 본(本) 연구(硏究)는 한국삼림토양(韓國森林土壤)의 특성(特性)을 비악(把握)하여 그 합리적(合理的) 이용(利用) 및 관리방법(管理方法)을 제공하기 위하여 실시되었다. 현재(現在)까지 조사발표(調査發表)된 토양(土壤)의 종류(種類)는 178개(個) 토양통(土壤統)으로 그중 64개(個) 토양통(土壤統)이 삼림토양(森林土壤)이다. 삼림토양(森林土壤)은 그 풍화모재(風化母材)의 종류(種類)에 따라 산악잔적토(山岳殘積土), 구릉잔적토(丘陵殘積土), 곡간붕적토(谷間崩積土), 충적토(沖積土) 및 화산회토(火山灰土)로 구분(區分)하여 분석(分析)하였다. 본(本) 논문(論文)에서는 토양(土壤)의 분류학적(分類學的) 특성(特性)과 모암(母岩), 토성(土性) 및 배수상태(排水狀態)를 다루고 있다. 기타 물리적(物理的), 화학적(化學的) 특성(特性)은 다음 논문(論文)에서 서술될 예정이다. 분류(分類)된 한국삼림토양(韓國森林土壤)의 특징(特徵)은 다음과 같다. 1. 산악잔적토(山岳殘積土)(29개통(個統))는 대부분(大部分) Lithosols로서 토양단면(土壤斷面)의 층위분화(層位分化)가 발달(發達)하지 못하였고 토성(土性)은 석력(石礫)이 있는 양토(壤土)가 가장 많고 점질(粘質)로 갈수록 토양통수(土壤統數)가 감소하며 배수상태(排水狀態)는 과도(過度)하다. 2. 구릉잔적토(丘陵殘積土)(19개통(個統))는 대부분(大部分) Red-yellow Podzolic Soils로서 단면(斷面)이 잘 발달(發達)되어 있고 토성(土性)은 주 로 양토(壤土)와 식토(埴土)로 되어 있으며 토양배수(土壤排水)는 양호(良好)하다. 3. 곡간붕적토(谷間崩積土)(13개통(個統))는 주로 Regosols로서 단면발달(斷面發達)이 미약하나 일부 층위분화(層位分化)가 이루어진 Red-Yellow Podzolic Soils와 Acid Brown Forst Soils 가 있다. 토성(土性)은 다양(多樣)하나 조립질(粗粒質)인 경향(傾向)이 있고 배수(排水)는 양호(良好)하다. 4. 각종모암(各種母岩)의 풍화산물(風化産物)의 토성(土性)을 보면 다음과 같다. 1) 조립질토성(粗粒質土性)을 생산(生産)하는 모암(母岩)들로는 유문암(流紋岩), 화강편마암(花崗片麻巖), 편암(片岩), 혈암(頁岩), 사암(砂岩), 역암(礫岩) 등(等)이 있다. 2) 미립질토성(微拉質土性)을 생산(生産)하는 모암(母岩)들로는 석회암(石灰岩), 현무암(玄武岩), 반려(斑糲岩) 및 안산반암(安山斑岩)이 있다. 3) 여러가지 토성(土性)을 다양(多樣)하게 생산(生産)하는 모암(母岩)으로는 화강암(花崗岩)이 있다.

인삼식부 예정지 관리에 관한 연구 제 1 보.예정지관리 전후 토양특성 변화 (Studies on the Soil Management in Ginseng Preplanting Soil (I) Changes of Soil Characteristics between Pre-and Post-management in the Preplanting Soil)

  • The study was carried out to confirm the changes of soil physico-chemical properties and population of Fusarium solani by soil managements at preplanning fields for ginseng cultivation. Soil porosity and aggregation had been significantly increased during the managements while exchangeable nitrogen content and bulk density of the soil had been decreased. Available phosphate and exchangeable potassium content, in addition, seemed to be slightly increased. And soil aggregation showed positive correlation with clay, organic matter, soil moisture, and Ca content in the soil but negative with K content. Decrease rate of NH4-N and NO3-N content after soil managements were 55% and 41% in average, respectively. And better decrease effect for NH4-N was obtained in sand loam soil whereas no effect for NO3-N with soil textures. The more ploughing seemed to result in less propagules of F solani in the soil, however there was non significant decrease in population of the pathogen after the soil management. Number of F. solani in soil was significantly less in the fields where gramineous and leguminous crops had been grown as a precrop than other crops tested. Meanwhile there was no correlation between soil texture and population of the pathogen in the soil.

준설토를 이용한 작물재배 시험연구 (Experimental Study on the Crop Cultivation Using Dredged Soil)

  • This study was initiated to investigate the applicability of the dredged soil from agricultural reservoirs on the crop cultivation. Four reservoirs were selected for this experiment, and properties of the dredged soils were analyzed physically and chemically. Soil textures were sandy loam(SL), silty loam(SiL), gravelly loam(GL), graveHy silty loam(GSiL), respectively. General chemical components, organic matter contents, main cations, heavy metals, etc. showed no adverse effects on crop growth. Tomato, cucumber, radish, Chinese cabbage were cultivated during 8 months period, in the soil treated with fertilizer and compost(Tmt.1), fertilizer(Tmt.2), compost(Tmt.3) and none (Tmt.4). Data for plant height, root zone depth and crop yield were collected and analyzed, and the yield for most crops showed increase as Tmt.1 >Tmt.2>Tmt.3>Tmt.4 by fertilizing methods, and as GL>GSiL>SL>SiL by soil textures. From the results, the crop cultivation using dredged soil was considered to be effective, due to its soil texture, organic matter content and fertilization.

밭토양의 물리성(物理性)과 수분문제(水分問題) (Soil Physical Properties of Upland Soil in relation to Soil Moisture)

  • Analysis of data in the Official Soil Series Description showed the dominant texture of upland soils is SiL, of which available water range is 21.1% highest among textures. Analyses of data in the N, P, K Trials on Barley in 1964/65-1968/69, and N, P, K and Soil Improvement Trials on upland Crops in 1961-1969 were made to relate fertilizer response to the amount of rainfalls during the growing season. Correlation between nitrogen response and the amount of rainfalls was observed but not between P and K and the amount of rainfalls. Some of physical properties were discussed to seek feasible means for increasing available water.

포장용수량과 포화 반죽 토양용액의 전기전도도 비교 (The Comparison of Electrical Conductivity for Soil Solutions Extracted in Field Capacity and Saturation-Paste)

  • 본 실험은 토양의 염류도 평가를 위한 전기전도도 측정시 기준으로 적용되는 포화 전기전도도가 이상적인 측정방법인 포장용수량의 전기전도도를 대표할 수 있는지 평가하기 위하여 수행되었다. 염류집적 시설재배지 22점과 간척지 토양 18점을 채취하여 포화반죽과 포장용수량의 토양용액을 추출하고, 주요 구성 양이온, 음이온과 전기전도도를 비교하였다. 시설재배지 토양의 양이온, 음이온과 간척지 토양에서 ${NO_3}^-$${PO_4}^{3-}$를 제외한 나머지 양이온, 음이온 모두 높은 상관을 나타내었고, 포장용수량과 포화 전기전도도 또한 높은 상관관계를 보였다. 포화 전기전도도와 불포화 조건인 포장용수량 전기전도도를 비교하였을 때 시설재배지 토양에서는 기울기가 0.923, 간척지 토양에서는 1.009로 거의 차이가 없었으며, 통계 결과 유의성이 인정되지 않아 포화반죽으로 전기전도도를 평가하는 것이 합리적인 것으로 판단되었다. 시설재배지와 간척지 토양을 sand, silt, clay 각각을 기준으로 비교한 결과 sand 함량과 포장용수량, 포화 전기전도도 비율이 비례하는 것으로 나타났다. 시설재배지 토양에서 sand 50% 이하에서는 0.811, Sand 50% 이상에서는 1.179, 간척지 토양은 sand 50% 이하에서 0.848, Sand 50% 이상에서 1.087배 차이나는 것으로 나타났으며, sand 함량이 많을수록 포장용수량과 포화 수분퍼센트의 차이가 크게 나타나 토성에 의한 수분 보유력이 관련된 것으로 판단되었다.

Australian Soil Classification: an Review

  • As a means of improving Korean Soil Classification System, we have reviewed Australian Soil Classification System by comparing Soil Taxonomy and FAO/WRB Classification System. Australian Soil Classification System is composed of 14 of Order, 87 of Sub-order, 556 of Great-group, 2,451 of Sub-group, and 7,276 of Family. Interestingly, soil order has the Anthroposols which is not classified with Soil Taxonomy, and the classification for some of soils is based on soil texture abruption horizon and soil structure. Seven of 14 soil orders are classified with an old version based on soil color rather than morphological characteristics. The distribution scale of Australian soil order is the largest in Tenosols, and followed by Kandosols, Rudosols, Sodosols and Vertisols in Australia.
