Soil $NH_4$-N content became higher in proportion to the increase in the urea application rate, while in livestock faeces compost (LFC) plots, it became lower than in urea plots and had no significant difference statistically among LFC plots. There was a close relationship between phosphate fertilization rate and the increment of soil available phosphate content after experiment resulting y=0.1788x-6.169 ($R^2=0.9425$) when applied fused superphosphate fertilizer, and y=0.0662x-2.689 ($R^2=0.9315$) when applied LFCs by the same amounts of phosphate (x: phosphate application, kg $ha^{-1}$, y: increment in soil available phosphate content, mg $kg^{-1}$. Plant height, number of stems, nutrients uptake by rice and rice yield showed higher levels in N 100, 150% application plots of chemical fertilizers, while every LFC plots exhibited lower values and no significant difference among them. Relative nitrogen fertilization efficiencies of LFCs compared to urea was 12.3% for cattle faeces compost (CaFC), 8.8 for swine faeces compost (SwFC) and 24.6 for chicken faeces compost (ChFC), respectively.

Bioslurping combines the three remedial approaches of bioventing, vacuum-enhanced free-product recovery, and soil vapor extraction. Bioslurping is less effective in tight (low-permeability) soils. The greatest limitation to air permeability is excessive soil moisture. Optimum soil moisture is very soil-specific. Too much moisture can reduce air permeability of the soil and decrease its oxygen transfer capability. Too little moisture will inhibit microbial activity. So Modified Fenton reaction as chemical treatment which can overcome the weakness of Bioslurping was experimented for simultaneous treatment. Although the diesel removal efficiency of SVE process increased in proportion to applied vacuum pressure, SVE process was difficulty to remediation quickly semi- or non-volatile compounds absorbed soil strongly. And SVE process had variation of efficiency with distance from the extraction well and depth a air flow form of hemisphere centering around the well. Below 0.1 % hydrogen peroxide shows the potential of using hydrogen peroxide as oxygen source but the co-oxidation of chemical and biological treatment was impossible because of the low efficiency of Modified Fenton reaction at 0.1 % (wt) hydrogen peroxide. NTA was more efficiency than EDTA as chelating agent and diesel removal efficiency of Modified Fenton reaction increased in proportion to hydrogen peroxide concentration. Hexadecane as typical aliphatic compound was removed less than Toluene as aromatic compound because of its structural stability in Modified Fenton reaction. What minimum 10% hydrogen peroxide concentration has good remediation efficiency of diesel contaminated groundwater may show the potential use of Modified Fenton reaction after bioslurping treatment.
In the present experiment, fly ash application to soil generally improved soil pH condition. The improvement of soil pH was greater with bituminous fly ash than with anthracite fly ash. Treatment of fly ash also made available phosphate content increased. But phosphate content in cultivated tomato plants was in inverse proportion to content in soil due to high pH of experimental soil as well as hot and dry weather. Amount of phosphate in plants had a strong positive effect on the yield of tomato. Number and weight of harvested fruits was greatest from July 21 to July 30, the time considered as peak harvesting period of second fruit truss. In conclusion, the application of fly ash improved physico-chemical properties of experimental soil.
The consumption of atmospheric carbon monoxide by soil was measured under laboratory conditions in different types of soils. Laboratory experiments were performed with humus containing high proportion of organic matter, roadside soils, and humus and roadside soils previously exposed to high concentration of CO by reusing in the experiment. CO concentrations in the 18.2 l-reaction vessel were varied from 2,000 ppm to 24,000ppm to estimate the effectiveness of CO consumption at high level of CO. The uptake of CO by soil was measured by gas chromatography using a TCD detector. The control experiments conducted along with the soil experiments evidently indicated that the potting soil is responsible for CO consumption. Humus showed much higher CO uptake rates compared with the soil taken from roadside. The humus reused in the experiment showed somewhat higher rates(15%) of uptake than the fresh one. The soil's ability to remove CO from the test atmosphere reached a maximum near the CO concentration of 13,000 ppm in the range of $9,000~24,000ppm$. The addition of streptomycin did not influence the removal capacity of soil significantly, whereas 10% saline solution remarkably prevented CO uptake of the humus sample.
We described the above-ground plant species composition and measured a range of soil physico-chemical properties and the composition and size of the soil seed bank in the remnant natural vegetations on the flood plains of the Han River within Seoul, South Korea. We used analysis of variance and multivariate analyses to analyse the data and S${\o}$rensen's similarity index to compare the composition of the vegetation and seed banks. The soils were circum-neutral and composed of mainly sand and silt fractions with a very limited clay component; a gradient based on sand/clay proportions was identified. The soil seed banks varied markedly between- and within-sites and had much greater species diversity than the above-ground vegetation. Two of the major dominants in the vegetation (Miscanthus saccariflorus and Phragmites australis) were found at very low densities in the seed bank. The site differences appeared to be correlated with the sand-clay gradient, suggesting that the soil properties differentially affected seed inputs into the soil, or that the processes than controlled sediment deposition during floods was also important in differentially affecting seed deposition. Lastly, there was relatively little similarity between the vegetation, dominated mainly by perennials, and the seed bank which contained a relatively large proportion of annuals and biennials. This result suggests that after disturbance caused by flooding there is the potential for many other species to colonize. This may impinge on the regeneration potential of the sites and cause concern for the future conservation of these important remnants of natural vegetation.

The objective of this study is to determine an appropriate cement of soil-cement in which silty soil of salty tidal flat with low plasticity was used. Physical, chemical and mechanical tests were conducted to find out the standard properties of the soil to be used. Various cement contents used in this test were 8%, 10%, 12%, and 14%, and the compressive strength was tested after 7 days and 28 days of standard curing in the above each cement content respectively. The results obtaind are summarized as follows. 1. As the cement content was increased from 8% to 14%, Maximum dry density (M.D.D.) and optimum moisture content (O.M.C.) were not changed remarkably. 2. Density of soil-cement was directly proportional to cement content and inversely proportional to water content. 3. OMC was generally decreased in proportion to the increase of cement content. 4. Compressive stranth was directly proportional to centent and inversely proportional to water content. 5. In freezing and thawing test, maximum loss of 10% in the total Weight was found on the 8% cement mixture. and This loss was rapidly decreased to 2% when the Cement content of the mixture was more than 10%.
Due to the recent environmental problems, lots of studies on the solutions to reduce the environmental pollutions are on the way. In the field of construction, concrete that we are currently consuming approximately 1 ton each year is the most common and cheap building material. We must cut down on this preoccupied use of this material and develop an alternative material as recommended by the late environmental standards. In this regard, this study propose the 'yellow soil' as the main substance that composes the final state, 'yellow soil concrete'. This study also aims to analyze the physical and chemical performances of this concrete mixed with the yellow soil by comparing it with the cement and assesses the possibility of its application to the cement. The results of the experiment shows that, assuming the solidity of the cement concrete to be around $210kg/cm^2$ (20.58MPa), the solidity of the yellow soil combined material may be around 45%~55% in terms of the range of W/B use, 200 to 400 in the per unit fission amount and less than 2% in the addition proportion of admixing agents. But the scope of the optimal concoction amount of the yellow soil concrete should better be limited as following. 40% to 50% in W/B, 300 to 400 in the per unit fission amount and less than 2% in the addition of admixing agents.
This study investigated the chemical properties of Organic Soil Amendments (OSAs) made from organic waste. It also assessed the effectiveness of using these OSAs in the soil layer of Green Infrastructure (GI) to reduce stormwater runoff and non-point source pollutants. The goal was to improve the national environmental value through resource recycling and contribute to the circular economy transformation and carbon neutrality of urban GI. The OSAs used in this study consisted of spent coffee grounds and food waste compost. They were found to be nutrient-rich and stable as artificial soils, indicating their potential use in the soil layer of GI facilities. Applying OSAs to bio-retention cells and permeable pavement resulted in a reduction of approximately 11-17% in stormwater runoff and a decrease of about 16-18% in Total Phosphorus (TP) discharge in the target area. Increasing the proportion of food waste compost in the OSAs had a positive impact on reducing stormwater runoff and pollutant emissions. This study highlights the importance of utilizing recycled resources and can serve as a foundation for future research, such as establishing parameters for assessing the effectiveness of GI facilities through experiments. To enable more accurate analysis, it is recommended to conduct studies that consider both the chemical and biological aspects of substance transfer in OSAs.
This research was carried out to investigate the effect of installation spacing of subsurface drip irrigation pipe on the mineral content, nutrient uptake, yield of lettuce, water requirement for irrigation, and soil chemical properties in greenhouse cultivation. Semi-forcing and retarding culture were implemented in this experiment, with four treatments containing overhead spray irrigation and three subsurface irrigation lateral spacing intervals of 30, 40, 50 cm at a depth of 30 cm from soil surface, respectively. Each mineral content of lettuce grown under subirrigation system did not show significant difference between treatments, however the uptake of nutrients was lower at 50 cm-distance. The yield was largest in 30 cm-subirrigation (SI), followed by 40 cm-SI, overhead spray, and 50 cm-treatment. Water requirement for irrigation was highest in overhead spray, and it was in reverse proportion to the distance of irrigation pipes. $NO_3$-N content in the soil, at a depth of 10 cm, showed a higher value in 50 cm-SI, followed by 40 cm-SI, overhead spray and 30 cm-SI. Exchangeable K content was highest in 50 cm-SI, Mg was highest in 40 cm-SI, and Ca was lowest in 30 cm-SI. In conclusion, the lettuce yield was not different between 30 and 40 cm-SI, but water requirement for irrigation was lower as the distance of irrigation pipes was further. And it seems to be needed more precise research on this theme, because crop yield and the dynamics of soil minerals in subsurface irrigation can vary with the depth and distance of irrigation pipes, dripper, water flow depending on the soil texture, and plant response to soil minerals.

The purpose of this study is to understand the high saline water phenomenon of Handong-ri area in the eastern coast of Jeju Island, were investigate the tidal effect of groundwater level, variation of electric conductivity and temperature, geological logging on the monitoring wells, chemical water quality, and ratios of oxygen istope of groundwater and seawater Results in investigating variation of interface zone of freshwater and saline water represented that the hyaloclastites formed at below groundwater table is developing toward the coast; this area consisted of stratum of good permeability. Hyaloclastites is presumed the main path of the high salinity water There are a lot of movement by the tide at upper layer. Salinity of lower layer spreads to upper up step in proportion to tidal energy. Because of hydrogeological characteristics, Interface zone of freshwater and saline water is made, High salinity of groundwater occur in east coastal area of Jeju Island. Therefore, I think that high saline groundwater phenomenon is natural condition by simple mixing.
