  • This study presents cyclic stress-strain and tensile test results at room temperature (RT) and 316℃ using cold-worked TP304 stainless steel base and weld metals. By comparing the cyclic hardening/softening behavior and failure cycle of cold-worked materials with those of irradiated austenitic stainless steels, the feasibility of simulating the irradiation effect on cyclic deformation and failure behaviors of TP304 stainless steel base and weld metals was investigated. It was found that, in the absence of strain-induced martensite trasformation, cold-working could properly simulate the change in cyclic hardening/softening behavior of TP304 stainless steel base and weld metals due to neutron irradiation. It was also recognized that cold-working could adequately simulate the reduction in failure cycles of TP304 stainless steel base and weld metals due to neutron irradition in the low-cycle fatigue region.

  • Some researchers pointed out that the nonlocal cantilever models do not predict the dynamic softening behavior for nanostructures (including nanobeams) with clamped-free (CF) ends. In contrast, some indicate that the nonlocal cantilever models can capture the stiffness softening characteristics. There are substantial differences on this issue between them. The vibration analysis of porosity-dependent functionally graded nanoscale tubes with variable boundary conditions is investigated in this study. Using a modified power-law model, the tube's porosity-dependent material coefficients are graded in the radial direction. The theory of nonlocal strain gradients is used. Hamilton's principle is used to derive the size-dependent governing equations for simply-supported (S), clamped (C) and clamped-simply supported (CS). Following the solution of these equations by the extended differential quadrature technique, the effect of various factors on vibration issues was investigated further. It can be shown that these factors have a considerable effect on the vibration characteristics. It also can be found that our numerical results can capture the unexpected softening phenomena for cantilever tubes.

  • Ficticious Crack Model(FCM) is one of the Nonlinear Analysis Method which is presented strictly strain softening phenomena of concrete in the fracture zone. As no stress singularities occur, it is not necessary to use special crack tip elements for this analysis. A special feature of the used method is that it explains not only the growth of existing cracks, but also the formation of new crack, as it is assumed that cracks start forming when the tensile stress reaches ft, i, e the same criterion is used for formation and propagation of cracks.

  • This paper presents a numerical investigation on kerosene-air mixture detonation and behaviors of thermal elasto-plstic thin metal tube under detonation loading based on multi-material analysis. The detonation loading is modeled by the kerosene-air mixture detonation which is compared with CJ condition and experimental cell size. And the thermal softening effect on elasto-plstic model of metal tube is indicated by different dynamic response of detonation loaded tube in various temperature and tube thickness.

  • This paper proposes an analytical method to predict the behavior of reinforced concrete beams subjected to reversed cyclic loading. The proposed method is based on the compatibility aided truss model and adopts the stress vs. strain curve of concrete which considers the softening effects. This model Is verified by comparing to the six reinforced concrete panel tests.

  • Bunker C fuel oil may be taken as a conc. solution of asphalt as a solute. It may be assumpt that there will be unalogical relationship between cone. solution and solute in regological behavior. Investigation was carried out to fiud out the -opitimum preheating temperature. The following results were obtained: the colloidal structure bunker C fuel oil undergoes a transition at around the softening point of the solute asphalt: and the flow charactor changes from non-Newtonian flow to Newtonian as well as its activation energy is memarkably reduced at around softening point of the solute asphalt for the purpose of the improvement of flow charater of Bunker C fuel oil, the preheating must be done above the softening point of a solute asphalt.

  • Based on the Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion, a gradient-dependent plastic model that considers the strain-softening behavior is presented in this study. Both triaxial shear tests on conventional specimen and precut-specimen, which were obtained from an ancient landslide, are performed to plot the post-peak stress-strain entire-process curves. According to the test results of the soil strength, which reduces from peak to residual strength, the Mohr-Coulomb criterion that considers strain-softening under gradient plastic theory is deduced, where strength reduction depends on the hardening parameter and the Laplacian thereof. The validity of the model is evaluated by the simulation of the results of triaxial shear test, and the computed and measured curves are consistent and independent of the adopted mesh. Finally, a progressive failure of the ancient landslide, which was triggered by slide of the toe, is simulated using this model, and the effects of the strain-softening process on the landslide stability are discussed.

  • The dynamic softening behavior of type 430 ferritic stainless steel could be characterized by the hot torsion test in the temperature range of 900-110$0^{\circ}C$ and the strain rate range of 0.05-5/sec. It is found that the continuous dynamic recrystallization (CDRX) was a major dynamic softening mechanism. The effects of process variables strain ($\varepsilon$) stain rate($\varepsilon$)and temperature (T) on CDRX could be individually established from the analysis of flow stress curves and microstructure. The effect of CDRX individually established from the analysis of flow stress curves and microstructure. The effect of CDRX increased with increasing strain rate and decreasing temperature in continuous deformation. The multipass deformation processes were performed with 10 pass deformations. The CDRX effect occurred in multipass deformatioon. The grain refinement could be achieved from multipass deformation The grain refinement increased with increasing strain rate and decreasing temperature. Also the CDRX in multipass deformation was affected by interpass time and pass strain. The total strain was to be found key parameter to occur CDRX.

  • The static softening behavior of SCM 440 could be characterized by the hot torsion test in the temperature ranges of 90$0^{\circ}C$~110$0^{\circ}C$and strain rate ranges of 0.05/sec~5/sec. Interrupted deformation was performed with 2 pass deformation in the pass strain ranges of 0.25$\varepsilon$p~3$\varepsilon$p and interrupted time ranges of 0.5~100sec. The dependences of process variables, pass strain ($\varepsilon$i), stain rate ($\varepsilon$), temperature (T) and interpass time (ti), on static recrystallization (SRX) and metadynamic recrystallization (MDRX)were individually predicted from the modified Avrami's equations, The dependence of pass strain on MDRX was neglectable. Comparison of the softening kinetics between MDRX and SRX showed that the rate of MDRX was more rapid than that of SRX for the same deformation variables. Controlled multipass deformations were performed using static and metadynamic recrystallization of SCM 440.

  • Manufacturing technologies of micro parts were studied in nano grained Al-1.5mass%Mg alloy. During compressive test at $300^{\circ}C$, the Al alloy showed stain softening phenomenon by grain boundary sliding regardless of strain rate. Micro spur gear with ten teeth (height of $200{\mu}m$ and pitch of $250{\mu}m$) was fabricated with sound shape by micro forging. During micro forging, increase of applied stress induced by friction between material and die surface was effectively compensated by decrease of stress by strain softening behavior and as a result, flow stress increased only about 50 MPa more than that in compressive test
